Background question from timid guest

Hi, there. I'm very interested in the site, but feeling a bit timid. It's been at least a year since the last time I role played. I used to be very active on various Harry Potter sites until real life caught up with me. I think it's pretty ironic that my security quote was "Less Cancer" from the American Cancer Society. Why? Because that's part of what caught up with me. I'm currently going through chemotherapy for Hodgkins Lymphoma. I've been a warrior princess for almost a year now.

I was wondering if putting my real life experience into my character would be permitted? I think that putting my journey into role play would be very therapeutic for me - and possibly eye opening for others, but I wasn't sure how it would mesh with the Hammel universe. Would a Hammel student go through chemotherapy - or would they simply be cured by a healer? Could I possibly role play as a non-meta seeking the help of a meta with healing powers?

I haven't fully fleshed out a character yet, but this is the first site that I've been interested in enough to ask. I would love to hear your opinion and any advice you might have.

Now, I'm no admin, but I've been around the block a bit on Hammel, and I think I can offer you some help.

1. I know we can be overwhelming, but Hammel is a very welcoming environment, even for the timid If you find the extroversion to stick your head out of your shell, someone will welcome you with open arms.

2. The Hammel universe was built to closely mirror that of our own, that means that all of the sickness exists here as well. I'm sure a biological manipulator (what Hammel calls healers) would have a lot of trouble "curing" cancer (being the dickwad of an ailment that it is), and that a character sharing your struggles would fit in really well.

3. Hammel has a really open and malleable application process. If what you apply with doesn't quite work, an Admin/Mod will help you tweak things so that it fits.

1. Awww...thank you so much for the warm welcome! I'm really excited about getting back into role playing. I've been poking around and this looks like a great place to get back into action!

2. That makes sense. If biological manipulators could cure everything, the world would be a much different place. Cancer is definitely a dickwad disease that would be too hard to cure. (I love the way you put that!) I'm thinking that her treatment will be a combination of traditional chemotherapy and biological manipulation to help alleviate some of the side effects.

3. I've been looking over the apps. I love the flexible process! My brain has been swimming with ideas all day. I'm hoping I can pull them all together and have an application up by the end of the week.
