Training, that was all that was on the girl’s mind.

Charlie didn’t want to think about going home for the holidays, which were coming up soon. She wasn’t looking forward to Thanksgiving, due to the animosity that would arise in the house mostly full of women, aside from her dad and Alice’s hubby.

She sighed as she spun her nun chucks around her hands and around her waist, walking around the space of the training room she was in. The brunette loved to incorporate her love of martial arts with her powers, and as the broad black handles of her weapon bounced around her waist, she could barely feel them. A small, content smile was on her face, her brown eyes focused ahead on nothing in particular, but still focused.

It was great to be alone in the room, but Charlie wouldn’t mind if someone else needed to use the room with her. She wasn’t the friendliest of persons though, so if anyone did join her, they would probably receive the silent treatment.

Her long brown hair was up in a high ponytail, a pair of grey sweats adorned her legs and a simple orange tanks covered her torso. The look on her face was all business and that’s when the door opened to a familiar face, but as soon as she made eye contact with the pair of baby blues, she looked away and kept on with her fancy wrist tricks.

“Spencer,” she said flatly, her back to him now as she glanced at the clock, “have nothing better to do than harass me?”

Spencer had been about ready to leave Hammel for the day when he decided he would take an extra hour before heading to the training rooms for a bit. He quickly ran back to his car and grabbed his duffel bag. Using the car as a change room was a bit cramped but it worked. Very soon he was in his workout clothes and jogging back to the school. He was at the doors of the school as he was managing to get the shoulder strap over properly. Using his foot to open it he quickly slipped through the space he had created before it could shut on him again.

He stopped to look at the sign up sheet for the training room. Smiling as he pushed the doors opened he knew he'd hear about it for interupting, but truth be told he liked her far to much to resist barging in on her training. Truth be told he half expected to have to fight her off the bat, but she opened up with attitude today. Either way he wasn't one to back down, even if it meant having his ass handed to him. Despite his ability, the one thing Spencer was to stubborn to memorize was martial arts. He had kept training in them normally, and as his ability let him learn new things sometimes he had to start over. One of the unfortunate side effects of memorising anything he wanted just by seeing it done once.

"Charlie, answer me this. What is better than harassing you?" He asked as he took his stance, a smile playing on his face. She had been a wonderful source of training in the times he had forgotten what he had once mastered and he was full well ready to spar with her today. He could only help but be prepared considering all the times she had caught him unaware. He kept his eyes on her, and remained in his spot. Oh yes, this was going to be way better than training by himself.

"What words of wisdom do you have for me today?" He asked with a laugh as he waited for the ball to begin rolling. At least he had been smart enough to change today, the last time he had fought her in decent clothes he hadn't been able to move properly until he tore his sleeves off. Now he was just wearing black sweats and a white muscle shirt, allowing him to be very comfortable for whatever situation she had to throw at him.

“I’m not in the mood for riddles,” she said, turning around to face the boy once more. The brunette offered him a small, annoyed smile and carried on with her fancy footwork and hand movements. She let her eyes trail over him, and then looked away and kicked herself in the ass. Spencer was bound to comment on that, he was too perceptive for his own good. “You know I don’t do words,” she said, approaching him now which her hands and weaponry at her side.

She stopped a couple of feet in front of him, an eyebrow raised. “So it’s another “training” session you want?” Charlie asked him, and without waiting for a reply, she turned and walked back to her duffle bag of training gear. Why else would he be here if he wasn’t interested in fighting? It’s all Spencer was into. That, and girls. He had had his full share of both, and that’s what kept Charlie at arm’s length. He was sexy, there was no doubt about that, but she couldn’t compare, and she preferred not to have feelings. Ever, if she could help it.

Throwing her nun chucks back into her bag, she walked to him gracefully once more, her feet barefoot for better grip. “Explain to me how your power works again,” she said. The thing was, Spencer would be a very worthy opponent, if he wasn’t so damn lazy. He could memorize positions and use them immediately. She would kill for a power like that, instead of being a human shield.

With that, she raised her arms and balled her fists close to her face, nodding her head back so Spencer would come forward. “Don’t be afraid to hit me,” she smiled for the first time since he stepped into the room, “your wrist would probably snap.”

"It's not a riddle it's a fact darling." spencer said almost automatically. He stood and watched her practice just long enough to catch her ogling his body. It was a surprise to catch her paying more attention to him that we movements; it wasn't usual for her to give attention to anything else. "You know I'm pretty sure it was you who gave me hell for staring at your curves when I was practicing last week. Although I will admit its hard for most people not to stare." he said with a smirk tugging at his lips. Sure, he was just joking around but chances were Charlie would be fuming, she seemed to hate being corrected by him.


Spencer met her eyes, refusing to blink as she stood within reach. He simply nodded and walks backwards a few paces, letting nothing distract him from her. "Well I was just going to practice..." he let his eyes trail over her body before continuing "but now I think I'd like a sparring partner." Before he knew it she was walking away again and ridding herself of the weapons. Needless to say she could pull off those pants quite nicely; something he wishes she would do. He eyed her warily as she approached again.


"You know how it works, you also know I'd rather work my ass off and feel accomplished with the skills I learn at the end of the day. Besides I don't like it when you get jealous, it's not even another woman." Spencer said, his eyes smiling as he got into a boxing stance. Hopefully today she would be up for a brawl, if not he would just be forced to adapt. He winked as he advanced on her. If there was one person he wasn't afraid to go all out with it was Charlie. Her ability made life a lot easier for him when they trained, almost anyone else he sparred with ended up getting hurt.


"Under normal circumstances I'd hate to rearrange such a pretty face but I'm pretty sure you can handle yourself. Just a brawl today or are we going to get technical?" he asked her; his eyes serious as he made the first move and took a swing at her face. She would be ready and even if she wasn't it wouldn't hurt.

“If it’s a fact,” she challenged, a single eyebrow raised, “then you wouldn’t be asking me what I think of it.” Charlie mused over what she said. Indeed, facts were well known and unquestioned, such as gravity, or how water freezes from being below zero. “Are you implying that you have curves?” She asked then, an amused smirk on her face. There was really nothing to correct, she knew she had been checking him out, she had only hoped he wouldn’t notice, but lady luck wouldn’t have things work out in her favour today. Spencer even being here was enough to tell her that today wouldn’t go as planned, and she had better stay on her toes. “And I will give you hell regardless, remember that.” Either in checking her out, or in helping her train, Charlie was not soft by any means.

Charlie rolled her eyes as she could feel his fall over her body. “Eyes up Spencer, or next time you won’t see the punch I throw at you.” She said, not that she was complaining about having the obvious advantage. Nearing him again, she readied her mind set to one similar of their previous meetings. All training, no soul attached. It would be better this way. They didn’t have to be friends, they didn’t have to be enemies, she was simply being generous and giving him sparring lessons. Mostly because she loved kicking his ass, and she liked practicing with someone real, and she wouldn’t pass up that opportunity, even if it was loud mouthed Spencer asking the favour, because it was a favour to him.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she said as he mimicked her stance almost perfectly. But who was she kidding really – with his powers, he would have the moves down pact in no time. Charlie stepped forward as he did, a playful smirk on her face. This was the fun part. “I’m truly glad you have so much confidence in me Spencer, let’s see if we can say the same about you.” And with that, he took a swing at her and she ducked under it as though she had mind reading capabilities.

After dodging his sad attempt, things got serious, and technical. Charlie neared him suddenly, her leg in the middle of his two, and if he didn’t jump in time, her moving leg toward his body would make him fall over face first, which was what she was hoping for. It would simply trip him forward, nothing painful. That stuff was still to come, a sinister smirk on her face as she glanced over her shoulder to keep an eye on Spencer. She wasn’t about to let her guard down around him. There was nothing special about him.

"I might be willing to take a blow to the face over this view." Spencer said, his words toying with her in a way that only he knew how to do. Naturally he brought his eyes up to meet hers though simply because he wasn't quite in the mood for her to destroy him before they even got started. He had been training hard without her the past few weeks and he had a few new moves that he knew for a fact that she wouldn't be expecting of him.That was the perk of working himself as hard as he did. He knew she would kill to be able to have his power, but eventually he might have to start using it to learn everything he wanted.

Spencer smirked and gave her a bit of a cocky look. "You know damn well what I'm talking about." He said, his eyes taking in her stance, trying to foresee her first move. She easily dodged his first swing with enough time to sass him. "By the end of this you'll see just what I have to offer." He said, as he jumped up to dodge her kick and used his weight to pull her back to the floor for a toss by her shoulders. Chances were that she'd be off the floor as fast as he was but that's why he had to stay ready. He rolled back and pushed her body away from his with his legs, rolling back up to a standing position and standing to face her.

"Not so bad hey?" Spencer asked as he took his stance and got ready for what was coming next. He'd be willing to bet that she was going to throw a lot at him now simply because he had slipped one in. He held firm and eyed her carefully. "I've been training hard... and learned a few new tricks... I'm sure you'll figure them out quick enough though." He said; winking at her and throwing his head back as if to tell her to come at him. That was the beauty of this for him, he could go all out and not worry, and he also got to get closer to her. She was the one chick who seemed able to avoid him and his advances. Wasn't it always what you couldn't have that you wanted the most?

Advancing towards her slowly he got ready to dodge or block; depending on if it was a punch or a kick. That was the thing with her; you had to have each move planned until it just became a flow otherwise you wouldn't stand a chance. "Your turn to hit me with your best shot." He said, a wicked smirk on his face as he prepared for the worst.

Charlie forced a smile instead of growling at the boy. “We’ll see how worth it it will be,” she warned with raised eyebrows. She had a pretty sick punch and he might just lose a tooth or two. Might not be worth the look at all really.

He moved. “No really, I have no idea what I’m supposed to be jealous of,” she added to clarify her point. She approached him then. “I know what you’re offering Spencer, and trust me, I’m not buying,” she said, before attempting the trip kick. There was no point in wanting his powers, she hadn’t chosen her powers and she couldn’t change them. There was also no point in wanting a playboy. He flirted with every other girl he came across and Charlie knew better than to give her heart to someone who would just break it. Hence the tough exterior, hence why she sassed him instead of taking anything seriously. She didn’t want to do that to herself again – ever.

Damn She thought to herself as she found herself being dragged to the floor, not feeling a thing. Charlie stood up again, facing Spencer once more. “I see you’ve picked up a few tricks,” she said with a small smirk, only slightly impressed. But he didn’t need an ego boost. He reiterated what she said and she pushed a stray hair out of her face before concentrating on him once more. He egged her on and it didn’t take much to get her to come at him full force. It was what he wanted, right?

A smile graced her elegant face as she took a running start at him. If that didn’t surprise him nothing would. Charlie held her hands out as though meaning to choke the boy, but instead she used his shoulders to spring herself up and over his entire body. Now she was looking at his back (which wasn’t a bad view), and she didn’t hesitate to round house kick Spencer in the knees, which buckled like they were nothing and sent him sprawling to the floor. Charlie’s skin could double as armour and weaponry when necessary. Whatever pain Spencer was feeling, was at least double of what a move like that would normally cause.

Charlie stood over him with a satisfied grin, her guard still up in case he tried something cute. “How’s my best shot from down there?” She teased, offering him her hand so he could stand up. He would recover and learn within seconds. He would become her greatest opponent, and if he learned everything she could teach him, she would be the one in his current position.

Before Spencer could contemplate a response to her she was already in the air over his shoulders. He tried to turn but he wasn't quite fast enough to get there. He was dealt a solid blow to his knees and he was sent sprawling. How she got the jump on him like that he knew already, now to figure out how to stop it next time. Already he had thought to roll forward so she would overshoot him. He lay on the floor though, letting the pain sink in. It was a welcomed reminder as to why he needed to train as much as he did.

"From down here... well I like it..." He said as he reached up to take her hand. His eyes flashed as he pulled her down to the floor and rolled on top of her, pinning her arms to the floor and sliding down to lock her legs up with his own. He smiled down at her. "So now that you know what the view is like from down there what do you think about my best shot?" His eyes meeting hers. If he didn't have the respect for her that he did he may very well have slipped a kiss onto her lips, however he didn't want to damage this relationship. He was working hard at keeping this as a good one.

Spencer stared deeply into her eyes, the longing visible in his own before releasing a bit of the pressure on her wrists. "You think you can get out of this one without a lot of trouble?" He asked; the smile he was almost always wearing returning to his face. He knew he was going to have to work for what he wanted, and if he could do it when it came to learning to fight it shouldn't have been that hard for him to do it for a woman's heart should it? He had to clean up his act, but it really wasn't that easy considering how hard old habits die.

He was happy, but he wanted more than just fighting lessons from Charlie. He had tried a lot of things, but she hadn't responded like most girls before had. "So what exactly am I going to have to do to convince you to go to dinner with me?" Spencer asked, momentarily forgetting to keep enough pressure on her to keep her pinned to the floor. By now his knee was getting stiff from the blow it had received. Hopefully she had let her guard down enough to answer his question rather than escape his clutches once again.

Charlie would enjoy having the upper hand for now. Part of her hesitated in helping Spencer train because she enjoyed having the upper hand in relationships, no matter what the setting was. Life was a big fight in a way; the moves had to be practised and well placed if you ever want to get a step closer to your goal.

Her beating him wouldn’t stop the flirting though, and she rolled her dark brown eyes. “What did I say about looking?” She chastised him then, feeling more like his mother than someone he should be getting frisky with. Maybe if he could see her in that light, the cockiness would stop altogether. A girl could dream couldn’t she? The moment her reached up, Charlie could feel herself freeze. The second he touched her hand, she wondered what he was trying to do. She wondered if his hands were soft, or rough to the touch.

Two seconds later the positions were switched as he gazed down at her from above, smiling like some kind of god. Their eyes locked and Charlie felt the sudden urge to kiss the boy, but she held back. That was just the adrenaline talking, her body mistaking a good workout for someone she found attractive. The two were easily confused. “I think you should get off of me,” she warned, her arms as stiff as boards beneath him, and hard like boards too. It would be easy to take a cheap shop and kick him where the sun didn’t shine, but she didn’t want to stoop that low.

It seemed like he wanted to kiss her too, but Charlie held his eyes stubbornly instead of looking away. “It wouldn’t be much trouble, but I try not to fight dirty,” she said. It wasn’t fair, he had used his own weight against her and gravity had definitely been on his side when he pulled her down. The brunette rarely let her guard down to let people in. Once that happened, she was as loyal to that person as a dog was to their master. If people knew that – she’d be ruined. It was the whole purpose of taking martial arts to begin with, to protect herself from those she knew would only end up using or hating her. Spencer was one of those people.

It was why she didn’t kiss him. It was why she wouldn’t kiss him.

Something clicked in those blue eyes of his. What she wouldn’t give to be able to read his thoughts and learn why he was suddenly happy. Was it because she wouldn’t be able to get away so easily this time like the times before? Why wasn’t he over her yet? Surely he had other prey on his mind, or lining up at his door, never mind. “Nothing will convince me to go to dinner with you,” she stated simply, trying not to be too harsh about it. “You’re not my type,” she added. He was rich; she was poor. He had everything handed to him on a silver platter; she had to work her ass off for everything, literally in both cases. She knew what he thought about people of a lower class, and that made her partially hate him. It was probably why she liked fighting with him so much. She also knew he liked fighting, which was why he was probably confused as to how he felt for her.

“That’s the adrenaline speaking, you really don’t want to go to dinner with me,” she said, more of a warning than a challenge. But knowing Spencer, he would take it as such. “Besides,” she decided to add, “anyone can buy dinner.” Spencer couldn’t buy Charlie. He couldn’t wine and dine her and have her appreciate him and put him on some kind of pedestal. The pressure had been lessened but she hadn’t noticed. How could she when her skin was so thick? He really wasn’t that heavy to begin with. Then it dawned on her.

Charlie pushed her feet up and into Spencer’s torso, lifting him off the ground before pushing him away from her. She sat up then and glanced at him. She forgot she could do that. The brunette didn’t have super strength, but she could bench press more than double her own weight. Spencer surely couldn’t have been more than that. “Let’s stick to brawling,” she said from her seated position, “it’s what you and I are good at.” If Spencer was looking for a fight in every aspect of the word, he had certainly found the right woman. Now that he wasn’t on top of her she could think straight once more.

Spencer immediately began to form a plan as Charlie insisted on telling him that nothing he could do would ever convince her to go to dinner with him. Already he knew exactly how he would get her right where he so badly wanted her. "You can't say I'm not your type when you've skipped even giving me the shot. I'm sure you'd change your tune after that." He said, a sly look spreading across his face. He would pull out all of the stops, just to make it the perfect night, one that she couldn't possibly look back on and regret.

"Darling, I was speaking long before the adrenaline even started." Smirking his already somewhat elaborate plan began to form into something a little more beautiful, and a lot more perfect. Spencer knew that anyone could buy dinner, that was a fact, he would prove to her just how well he could treat her, and he wouldn't let her have the opportunity to say no to him this time around. "You know... you're absolutely right... I don't think I'll ever really want to take you to dinner." He said, knowing full well that she would take this as sarcasm; little did she know the next meal she had with him he would be cooking everything.

Before Spencer even had a chance to protest Charlie had gotten him off of her and he was on his feet as soon as he was moved. He walked over to his towel and began to wipe the sweat that had beaded on his forehead. "Thanks for the match Charlie... give me a few weeks and you'll be on your back a lot longer than you were today." He said with a smile. He had every intention of surpassing her ability, and doing it without using his ability. "I still say you should at least go out with me just once." He said, prodding the issue a little further, trying to gauge just how badly she wanted to avoid him.

Turning around to face her he kept his smile on when his baby blues met her dark chocolate eyes. He found himself taken in by them, almost against his will, yet part of him wanted to be there completely. "If you really want to stick with brawling just keep in mind you'll have to keep learning with me. For every move I learn you have to find a counter... it's almost like chess, but a lot more graceful and fast paced." He said. She could be the queen that went with him any day.

Maybe he'd execute the plan in a few weeks, or a few hours, he really couldn't decide, what he did know was that she wouldn't see it coming, and at the end of it he would make sure she was the happiest date he had ever had. He had been trying to make some changes with his dating life and was making progress, eventually she wouldn't even have an excuse to turn him down. The biggest thing was that he wanted to know her; she truly was a mystery waiting for someone stubborn enough to see it through. " You know that you still haven't even told me where you live right?" He asked, doing his best to make conversation as he finished toweling himself off.

Spencer took his shirt off and let the air hit him for a moment before making sure it wasn't to sweaty to wear home. He put it back on almost immediately and looked over his shoulder at her. It was coming together, and the sooner he executed his plan the better it would be. No matter what happened nobody could say he hadn't tried.

Grabbing his water bottle and walking closer he extended it to her after taking a swig. "Need any or are you just going to take off and leave me here watching your backside like usual?" He said, a slight challenge in his voice. To often it seemed like he was being left behind to try to put together the pieces of a puzzle known as Charlie.

Charlie smiled bitter sweetly at everything he had to say. “I’m not changing my ‘tune’,” she said, unimpressed with the boy’s antics. They hadn’t worked before, what made him think they would work now? It was completely ludicrous. Unsure of whether or not the next line was meant to be an innuendo or not, Charlie raised an eyebrow and said, “You really aren’t my type, especially after saying something like that.” Spencer would always be Spencer, and the one damn thing he didn’t seem capable of learning, was manners.

“I have nothing to learn from you Spencer, remember who’s teaching who here.” She said. Truth was, she had a lot of tricks up her sleeve, and they hadn’t even touched on using weaponry yet. Mostly because it wasn’t allowed in school and she didn’t want to invite the boy over and give him the wrong impression. She knew he would take that as an invitation to her bedroom. Speaking of which, Spencer was asking where she lived and she chuckled softly at the timing of the conversation. He wasn’t a mind reader was he? “I don’t tell boys who keep hitting on me where I live, I wouldn’t want to have to put a restraining order on you.” It was her own brand of flirting.

Getting her stuff together, Charlie glanced over at Spencer as he undressed. He was attractive in many ways, but that had been her downfall before and she wasn’t going to let it happen again. Their eyes met and a smirk formed over her broad lips. “I can’t stop you from doing the latter,” she said before leaving, walking no differently than normal. She could feel his eyes on her and she shook her head in chastisement. He was such an open flirt. Charlie grinned to herself as she pushed open the Gym doors and left.
