The Basics
Name: Elina Mae Harte
Nicknames: Ellie, Lina, Mae, Ella
Age: 17
Orientation: Heterosexual
Desired Rank/Job: Student
Powers: Clairaudience. Ellie can hear bits of conversations going on somewhere else. Not in the past or future though. It only involves the present. It’s more easy to eavesdrop when the distance is limited, but she’s still learning and if she focuses enough, conversations taking place further away will be accessible as well. This, however, requires more of her energy and can lead to migraine. She also doesn’t deal that well with being overloaded, like when going to a club, but she’s slowly getting a hang on how to switch it off for a bit. Also, she’s blind. Being born that way, her brain adapted itself and her sonar perception is well developed. Hearing gives her back her ‘vision’. Pretty much a normal and natural form of echolocation. Her power simply seems to strengthen it and makes it less likely for her to bump into something. Yet, it’s less effective at night.

The Details

Any Tattoos? No
Any Scars? No, amazingly enough
General Appearance:
Elina has natural wavy brown locks which reach past her shoulders. Most of the time she won’t bother putting them together, but every now and then you’ll come across her with the hair being hold together by a messy bun. This, however, only happens on her off days. She really cares about her appearance and has developed quite some skills when it comes to applying make-up. If she isn’t certain it worked out as planned, she’ll just track someone down for a honest opinion.
At first glance, she might come off as innocent. Some claim that she has a baby face, but the girl begs to differ. Her master card are her light blue eyes. Despite the fact that she has never seen them, she is very grateful the impairment has nothing to do with her optics, but with the optical nerve. Ellie’s smile is one that can’t be missed either and while she flashes it quite often, a frown will appear every now and then. She’s naturally thin, which really surprises her since her parents never really gave her enough breathing space to be very active.
Clothing-wise, Elina is very aware of fashion and loves to have a wardrobe that is constantly being updated. She’s pretty much comfortable in anything for she’s convinced that anything suits her to begin with. She does have some clothes that have merely been bought for the comfort, but it’s doubtful anyone will ever get to see those. The girl quite probably has as much accessories as shoes, so she pretty much wears something different every day.
Personality: Elina knows what she wants and it leads to a nasty personality quite often. After years of being overprotected by her parents, the girl doesn’t want to let anything or anyone get in her way to have fun and to explore the world. She tends to blurt out whatever is on her mind and isn’t iffy from spilling secrets either. In fact, Ellie isn’t good at keeping them. Her power allows her to hear parts of other conversations; something she doesn’t mind using against the other person when necessary, or she simply starts a gossip for the sake of entertainment and drama. Want to take vengeance? Tell Elina for she won’t feel guilty about starting the rumor.
She’s quite vicious as well. If people start to accuse her or act mean, she’ll pull the ‘I’m blind!’ card. Stir some pity and hope that will make them forget why they addressed her in the first place. Ellie is pretty shameless. She’s capable of flirting with anyone, even teachers if she’s convinced it will get her better grades.
Deep down, however, she’s quite insecure thanks to the impairment. It’s probably the reason why she puts up such tough exterior and pretends nothing can hurt her. And she wants to prove to her parents that, hey, she can take care of herself! Not a lot of people might get to see it, but the girl can be sweet as well and caring for those who have managed to break through the walls. She’s also very likely to keep her impairment hidden as long as possible, not wanting people to judge… even though it’s one of her own traits to jump to conclusions.
She’s pretty smart if she wants to be and when time is put into assignments and studying. The fact that Hammel has braille really does help her for, despite the well-developed hearing, it doesn’t go as far as allowing her to see what’s on flat objects like paper, pictures and so on.
There’s also a crazy part of Ellie that tends to come out whenever she’s around friends or at a party. It is during such occasions that it might be best to approach her, unless she has already formed an opinion about someone and isn’t eager to discover more.

History
Los Angeles. Elina was born in a wealthy family. Her father, being a lawyer, met his wife while she ran an internship at the company he had just kicked out of the ground. Once the woman graduated, she filed in a job application. It doesn’t need to be said that the two ended up in a relationship and three years later their family expanded. Elina Mae Harte was the addition they had been craving for. Everything was perfect… until the first checkup.
Somewhere between five days and two weeks after birth, Elina was taken to a pediatrician in order for her reflexes, sight, hearing etc. to be checked. It was then that the Harte family received the devastating news that there were suspicions that their little princess was blind. At first her parents did not believe this for her optics did not show any flaws, but further research confirmed the first doctor’s diagnosis. The transmission from the optic nerve to the brain malfunctioned and it would on recess.
This condition led to an overprotected youth. Elina was homeschooled for as long as she could remember, mainly because her parents feared for injuries and other accidents. At home, the girl was familiar with her surroundings and was less likely to bump into something or to end up hurt. She grew up in a world that wasn’t real, without a chance to explore.
At the age of 12, only a month before turning 13, she was spotted by a model agency while roaming through the city with her mother. Elina was quite eager when they asked for a photo shoot for it equalized adventure, yet her mom was hesitant at first. Only upon realizing that people would actually get to see her daughter’s beauty, instead of labeling her as ‘that blind girl’ did she agree. Elina absolutely adored it, despite the fact that it didn’t last that long.
About half a year after the discovery, the girl began to hear snippets of conversations going on around here. From her parents in the room next to hers. Her home tutor discussing something with her mother in the kitchen. Despite walls and closed doors, she still heard them clearly. Her first assumption was that being blind had strengthened her hearing, just like her hearing helped her ‘vision’, but nothing was less true. That same day, even before it could be brought up, a recruiter showed up on their doorstep and informed them about Hammel institute.
The protest that followed was to no avail. And unlike her parents, Elina looked forward to it. Part of her was scared for she had hardly ever gained any freedom, but she couldn’t wait to learn new things. The first couple of years were slightly terrifying though. New sounds, new people, new experiences… But going home during the few breaks amongst the year also made her realize that she no longer liked the restrictions. At home, she would behave though, to not worry her parents, but back at Hammel brakes were being dismissed and she enjoyed the freedom one hundred percent. And that’s what she’s still doing nowadays.
