Today we have the pleasure of chatting with Dr. Owen Roberts. Hello there handsome. Nice guns. You work out much?
Well thank you. Uh, no, I actually just do a lot of running. You can usually see me running around town in the morning before I open the clinic. My dog is usually with me too.
Speaking of your body, I see that you have a lot of tattoos. Do they all mean something to you?
I honestly have so many, I sometimes forget about some of them. I mean, sure, I have my reasons for getting them. Like, this one on my left forearm, the cherry blossoms and the dove, are for 9/11. And this one, I love my mom, so I thought I would ink it on me. I could sit and try to tell you all the stories, but I don't even know if I can remember some of them. (Owen chuckles) I have a shark on my side that I got when I was drunk, so it's really difficult to answer that questions in its entirety.
Well I would love to hear those stories sometime. But for now, back to the interview. You were a student at Hammel, yes? Did you enjoy your time there?
I think Hammel is a great school. Having the support when you're young and suddenly discover you have powers is great. Hammel really helped me figure myself out and I wouldn't trade that experience for anything.
So Doc, did you become a doctor because of your ability? Or was it more complicated than that? Did you consider any other options?
My powers were what really brought me to medicine. It just made sense to me. There was a point where I considered being a teacher or a musician, but the medical field just fit me more.
Speaking of your career, why did you choose to have a private practice instead of working at a hospital? More of an informal kinda guy?
I guess I really wanted to work with the kids of Hammel and I thought my chances of working with them would be better if I were in town. I do enjoy wearing my jeans though, so that is a perk to having my own practice. I do volunteer at Maddox Hospital though, so I get to enjoy the best of both worlds.
So then do you have a lot of Hammel students for clients?
I get my fair share. I usually get the non-emergent cases. Since I'm not a surgeon and only have limited resources, the school knows what they can and cannot send me. However, I do my best to see whatever patient comes to me through their care - whether with me or Maddox.
What were your reasons for moving back to Pilot Ridge?
This place just feels like Hammel. And I want to be there for the kids going through the shock of having powers. I was there. I didn't even know what my power was when I first got to Hammel.
Are you close with your siblings? How are you different and/or similar to them?
Some more than others, actually. love my brother, but we aren't very close. But I love my sisters to death. My elder sister has always been a bit of a protector over me. We're extremely close and talk all the time. And I love my little sister with everything I am. She's the best. I'll kick anyone's ass who hurts her. My brother doesn't really care about how affects other people, so that's what sets me apart from him. Both my elder sister and brother are powerless. We're still waiting to see about my younger sister. Other than that, I think my sisters and I are cut from the same paper.
Rumor has it you were engaged once? Anything you’d like to comment about that?
Well okay then, if I were to take you out, what kind of drink should I buy you?
Tequila.
I’ll have to store that away my memory bank. So, what’s your ideal date? Dinner and a movie? Or something more intimate?
The strong and silent type, I can respect that. And finally what’s the deal with squirrels? Got something against nuts?
(Owen laughs) Actually, there's a story behind that. When I was younger, I had gotten so drunk, I fell asleep on the frat house lawn. Well, I woke up to a squirrel on my chest and I almost pissed myself I was so scared. Ever since, I just hate the damn things. Besides, they're annoying.

How is Owen different and/or similar to your other characters?
Owen can be pretty cocky, whereas Marianne is very self-conscious. I think they are both very kind people. I've never mastered playing a complete asshole, so I tend to lean that direction. I'm just hoping that Owen doesn't turn out sounding gay, because I'm not the best at playing guys.
Do you see any of yourself in Owen?
I hate to see people hurt, whether physically or emotionally, so that is very me. I am compassionate towards people as well, which I think Owen could definitely be called. He's a great guy. Also, Owen was really hurt by his ex and I have had a very similar experience. So I've drawn my pain from that into him.
Can you tell us how you developed the character? Did you find a playby, power, personality, etc first?
It was kind of a combination of that. I've been watching a lot of Grey's Anatomy and I think Doctors are sexy, so I thought about making a doctor. I debated whether or not to make a female, and decided that I should have some practice with a male. One night, I was driving home with some friends and we were listening to Maroon 5, which brought me to the idea of Adam Levine for the playby. And since he was going to be a doctor, I though having the ability to control blood would fit perfectly.
Which came first the power or the career?
Career.
Favorite thread with him so far?
Definitely the thread with Michael Jones. I think it brings Owen's love for children.
Do you have any plans or goals for Owen’s future that you’d like to share?
I haven't really gotten too far ahead of myself. I was thinking of putting up a request for his ex and having her pregnant or already have the child. But I'm not sure about that yet. I guess I'm still thinking that over. However, I'm very open to ideas!
