General Appearance: Ben has a run-of-the-mill look, nothing too distinctive, something he jokingly blames his parents for giving his four brothers the good looks genes instead. He has a high forehead courtesy of his father, and deep-set eyes, drooping in the corner, courtesy of his mom. Ben has a sharp nose, ending with a blunt tip that’s more or less the mixture of both his parents’ most prominent features. And while his brothers all have boyish faces with rounded jaws, Ben has a set square jaw, giving people a serious impression of him which he most certainly isn’t. Much.

Although as much as he likes to describe himself as plain, what has to be the most alluring of his features would probably be his eyes. Blue doesn’t quite describe the color of his eyes. Rimmed with a dark blue hue, the irises have a mix of black and white rays with a dark blue tinge. It changes with the light and can sometimes even seem to change into a darker, violet hue.

With his 6’1” stature, Ben is not a lumbering giant, rather having a relaxed gait which coincides with his laid-back and mild-mannered nature.
Personality: Not straying too far from his childhood home where his parents still live in, Ben has picked up a lot of his parents’ attributes that none of his other brothers did. Like his mother, he is kind, mild-mannered, very patient and intelligent while like his father, Ben is reliable, quietly confident, friendly and polite.

Along with the glowing traits, Ben also inherited a lot of his parents’ little idiosyncrasies such as uncannily remembering words to songs because he is musically in tuned and can pick up words easily when it’s accompanied by tune. It’s a little quirk but it also gets him into trouble whenever he hums or starts breaking out into song in the middle of a quiet wait in the coffee shop. Because he was so used to seeing his father clean up after himself when they dine out, Ben now always arranges the plates and cutleries neatly and always places the salt and pepper shakers to its original place.

He loves talking to people. Of course, given his circumstances, it’s part of his job. He loves entertaining children who seem to take an instant liking to him as he gives off a big brother vibe. He’s a pretty private person and doesn’t divulge too much personal matters, even with people close to him. He respects other people’s privacy and hopes that people do the same when it came to him.

Likes: Checking up on people even though they don’t ask him to, white chocolate chip on dark chocolate cookies, (annoyingly) singing, jigsaw puzzles, Google (he likes things that are smarter than him), puzzle games, instant food (even though he can cook fairly well), going to the movies instead of getting the DVDs, caramel popcorn, greasy food, making kids laugh even at his expense, big dogs.
Dislikes: Having his food touching each other, the grossly unwarranted popularity of (some) book-based movies, greasy food (he has a love hate relationship with them), being stared at, reading tabloid magazines, hot beverages, paper cuts, handling knives, intolerance for metas.
Strengths: He’s pretty much tolerant of many behavioral quirks, he gets along fine with everybody he meets as long as they don’t show unreasonable hatred towards anything, he’s honest, he’s independent.
Weaknesses: He cares too much about what people think about him, stray animals, he can’t really say no to anything, he tends to blame himself whenever people he knows have problems that he can’t solve.
Fears: Feeling like he failed; be it in his line of work or his personal life, improper diagnosis for his patients, having to deal with parents who react negatively to his diagnosis.
Secret: Secretly, he wants his parents to hug him the way they used to instead of the one hand hug they issue out as of late.

History

Benjamin David Rhodes was born and bred in Pilot Ridge in a family of five boys, taught never to want for anything as their parents gave them everything they needed. They were all given the same care and concern even though all of them secretly knew who their parents favoured above the rest.

The Rhodes boys were never really at odds with each other mostly because they seldom see each other with Arthur and Casey always at boarding school. Liam, Haden and Ben didn’t have that big an age gap among the three of them so they got along fairly well. With the addition of their first cousin, Andy from their father’s side, they grew up to be quite close even after learning Andy’s little secret.

Growing up, Ben remembered always seeing his parents at the kitchen with breakfast before both of them went to work as managers of a chain of restaurants to their family names and always seeing them at his doorway before he went to bed; because of this dedication to family time, they grew close over the years.

However, in high school he became more withdrawn as he struggled with his sexuality. Once he was finally able to come out to them, he fancied his relationship with his family was back to normal. Or rather, back to the way it used to be. And while he's accepted that he is gay, he isn't sure if he is imagining that they are more distant or if they really do still have problems with it.

Despite this however, Ben never strayed from his childhood home. Even as his brothers left their childhood home to build their own family nest or to pursue education abroad, Ben always stayed close to the house he grew up in.
