Oriel was ready despite looking like he was about to fight a losing battle. Which any sane person would realize before having even started this endeavor.

But nope! Oriel was determined to copy his "good friend" Erik's example and show him up with a giant fish, or maybe a whale, or maybe the Loch-ness monster with even less equipment than the other skinny boy had used! Yup! There wasn't anything stupid about this.

So Oriel sat himself off the edge of the dock, his jeans rolled up and him leaning back with his hands behind his head like he was Huckleberry Finn or something. Not that he knew who that was.

Woo, two days of alone time. That should be counted as a win. All of his friends were off probably having sex in the woods or something because it wouldn't be all that surprising. And he secretly hoped that they got caught because that would be funny. So he was off the hook for a while. No one was really paying him much attention on the retreat because he was all bummy and no one liked him while he was in a solemn mood. He was milking it for all its worth.

Walking around towards the lake again, he thought about what he was going to do. He needed to talk to his brother. He needed to find a good guy friend. And he needed to get over Willow. Fast. Nate felt pathetic by feeling so down about this girl not liking him. As if it should matter, he could have gotten any girl he wanted.

But she was different and that was the problem.

The closest thing to Willow that he'd found was Luxanna, but he couldn't really be into her. She was one of his really good friends and he didn't want to ruin that. Besides, she and that guy that was always following her around were probably going to get married one day. He could see it now, him putting a tracker in her phone or better yet hiring a tracker to know where she was at all times of the day.

Nathan smirked at the thought and stopped in his path when he spotted said guy. Being the dumbass he was, he decided he might as well get to know him. After all, for Lux to talk so highly of him, he couldn't be that bad right? And to think, Nate didn't even know his name. "Hey, man. Any luck?" He looked like he had just started, so maybe that was a dumb question, but oh well.

Yeeee-up, this was the life. Very peaceful. Now he could see why Erik indulged in such a seemingly boring pastime. Even though nothing particularly exciting was likely to happen, you were still doing something. You could totally take a nap and still be considered doing something productive and, who knew? Oriel might even catch a fish…or a boot.

Oriel hadn't felt this relaxed in a long time. And his mind wasn't racing like mad over thoughts he'd rather not think about.

Very peaceful.

Laying down there on the dock with the sun beaming warmly overhead, Oriel barely noticed the footsteps of someone approaching the lulling boy. He therefore, only grunted at the inquiry, not really feeling like giving a proper response. But he was standing in Oriel's light, forcing Oriel to open his eyes and give this intruder a who-are-you-and-why-are-you-talking-to-me glare. Of course, looking at the guy's face, Oriel had to stop for a moment, considered, opened his mouth with a pointed finger, considered, then said, "I've glared at you before…"

Oriel shifted his eyes to the side as he tried to recall the memory. He had a vague memory of hearing this guy's name too….what was it? "…Nn-nn-Nick?" He shot his eyes back up at "Nick", raising his eyebrow inquisitively.

Oh yay, he knew who Nate was! Okay, maybe that was a bad thing, especially with the way that he started things off. Seriously who starts a conversation with 'I've glared at you before?' Nathan was starting to reconsider his idea of trying to figure out what it was that Luxanna even saw in this guy. As a friend of course because that was clearly all she saw him as (lies). He didn't seem all that sociable. Definitely not a people person, not that Lux was either, but still. She was at least a little nicer about things than he came off.

But that was being prejudice. First impressions could change...right?

"Close, but no. Nate, Nate Darwin. And you're Oreo, er well, that's what I've been hearing at least. I actually don't think I've ever heard your name before," Except about a ton of times from Lux, but how was he supposed to remember? Clearly he wasn't very good at remembering things that he didn't see as important. Sorry Oreo, but your name passed right through Nate's mind because he didn't see the importance of remembering some random guy's name just because his little Buttercup was friends with him. Nope. Definitely not important.

Yeah, Oriel definitely remembered glaring at this guy before…when he would talk to Lux. Right now Oriel remembered. This guy was one of the dudes who was trying to get in Lux's good graces enough to get in her pants, right? (wrong!) A guy that Oriel hadn't spoken more than a few grunts at prior to him intruding on his relaxing (pointless) fishing time.

Right, Nate. That was it. But Oriel wasn't sure if he should memorize it yet.

Oriel's glare heightened as that nickname fell from Nick's lips. "I'm not a cookie," he said curtly, sitting up with a quick spin around to face the offender with a look that said "you die next".

Because Jack died first, everyone knew that.

With a snort, Oriel decided to graciously give this smart-ass another chance, out of consideration for Lux, because surely she would be sad if Oriel actually became a murderer(and not because Nick would be dead), so he huffed out another grunt and corrected, "It's Oriel. Like the fucking bird, only spelled differently." Seee? He could be nice(sorta) when he wanted to be. He even offered his name without being asked! He turned away to tend to his fishing-stick. "So, Nick," he started again, "What the fuck possessed you to come all the way out here and risk certain death by talking to me? Got a screw loose or something?"
