Sighing to herself, George slumped back on her bed. She had a free period right now, and even though she had homework due for next lesson, she wasn't in the mood to do it. She never was, actually, but that was besides the point. She needed something to do for the next hour. She sat up and looked over at her laptop; maybe she could try some Portal or something? She'd completed that game about 3 times already, one of those times being yesterday... nah. She was about to lie back down again when her guitar caught her eye, and that gave her an idea. She went over to one of her many bags, this one containing many CDs, and pulling out a few which contained instrumental tracks from different musicals and some bands which she really liked at the moment, and with those in hand, she was out of the door.
Of course, she could've fulfilled her idea in her room, but the acoustics in there were pretty terrible and she really needed to stretch her lungs; she hadn't done some proper singing in a while. As she walked through corridors of the school and heard the occasional raised voice of a teacher, she mentally thanked Joan, one of her best friends back in England, for composing the tracks on those CDs, otherwise she'd be using YouTube for the music, and a lot of her favourite songs didn't have decent tracks on YouTube. After a few minutes of walking, she eventually reached her destination: The Auditorium. She slowly opened one of the stiff double doors, which resulted in making a very loud creak reverberate throughout the room. She poked her head in and looked around. "Hello?" she asked to the emptiness.
...
Nothing.
Without an answer to tell her otherwise, she let herself into the room and closed the door behind her. Walking over to the stage, she pulled herself up onto it. Behind the curtains on one side was a CD player which projected out into the rest of the auditorium. She went over to the machine and randomly chose a CD to put in. Once it had loaded, she pressed a random track number and stepped into the middle of the stage. A few seconds later, she heard four identical staccato chords and instantly knew what the song was. A smirk grew on her lips as she began to sing:
"Jack and Jill, went up the hill,
To fetch a pail of water, so they say.
Their subsequent fall was inevitable,
They never stood a chance they were written that way.
Innocent victims of their story!"
It was the song "Naughty", from Matilda. She loved how it was talking about how a child was discovering the stupidity of the world and how unfair it was, and how you had to do things yourself independently if you wanted to get along. That was practically her life's motives in a nutshell. She tapped her foot in time with the beat and loved every second.
