This involuntary power enables the user to put another person in a trance, but only while the other person is asleep and in NREM sleep. With REM sleep, the brain is too active and the power is unable to be successful. The subliminal hypnotic suggestion leaves the person susceptible to suggestions made by the user. The exceptions for this power is it cannot do a complete 180 on somebody (eg: good to evil), suggest homicide or suicide, and can't be used on strangers. She must have encountered the person somehow before, and engage in some sort of conversation. The ability can't be used for monetary reasons (i.e can't hypnotize someone into giving her $100K) or anything destructive. The power can be used to hint towards traits not possessed by the person (eg: Someone can have mostly good core values but with hypnotic suggestion, the user might be able to persuade the person to steal a candy bar or something of small value.) Subliminal hypnotic suggestion makes itself known during puberty. The success rate is marginal. For Carleigh, it's around 7-10%. The process itself is extremely delicate. The user accesses the power is the intended target must be in NREM sleep and the user simply uses their voice to put the person in a trance and suggest whatever they would like so long as it follows the guidelines above. In order for it to work, she must be in the same room as the person. The optimal range is between 1-6 feet. Any physical contact would disrupt the sleeper and awaken them. The suggestion only works on one person/one mind at a time (or the Gestalt Pair, again, can take years to master.)This ability can work on those with sleep related abilities or psychics, but it's more difficult. If at any time the NREM sleep is disrupted or if the person enters REM sleep, then the ability doesn't work. Numerous attempts are allowed within in a night, but chances are people won't like someone sitting in their bedroom at 3 in the morning. The time limit to engage the person is 5 minutes once the user begins. The person first has to address the target (eg: "Thomas Smith, are you listening? Relax and focus only on my voice etc.) and then can try to put them in the trance. If the user fails to put the target in a trance, they will begin to stir and wake up, and that's when the user should probably escape. If successful, the affect can last up to a week, depending on the strength and whether or not the suggestion is something the character might actually do. Strength is weaker on those with sleep related abilities and psychics. Subliminal hypnotic suggestion can be used on those who have the power, but success can be difficult. Side affects can include insomnia, irregular sleeping patterns, dizziness, constant mild to severe migraines and losing your voice. If abused, the user can permanently lose their voice.

General Appearance:Carleigh is on the shorter side, standing at about 5'3, taller when she's wearing heeled booties that she adores. She would look smaller if it weren't for her larger breasts that look out of proportion compared to the rest of her body. Carleigh has long, waist length blonde hair that she prides herself on... even if the colour isn't natural. The majority of the time it's left in it's naturally straight state or thrown up hastily into a bun. Her big blue eyes are framed with dark lashes. Her tan skin always appears flawless, but if you look closely, it's fairly easy to see the purpleish bags underneath her eyes, a physical effect from the insomnia she suffers with. She has thinner lips but regardless, Carleigh is always smiling. Ever since she got her braces removed, her confidence has skyrocketed. Carleigh can be quite vain when it comes to her looks and spends a lot of time in the morning perfecting her face.

Coming from California, Carleigh is use to fairly hot weather. It's been hard adjusting to Vermont's weather, but she's managed. She enjoys dressing in girly clothing such as dresses and skirts when the weather is nice. Layering is her best friend when the weather is cooler. As mentioned above, Carleigh loves wearing heels as she wishes she were a bit taller. Her height feels like quite the inconvenience. Her wardrobe and accessories are quite extensive.

Despite trying to hide it, Carleigh almost always looks tired. No matter how much confidence she projects or how much concealer, it'll never match the amount of sleep she loses. She yawns a lot and closes her eyes, which can lead her to fall asleep in inconvenient places. Generally, Carleigh gives off a fatigued aura.

Personality:
Carleigh is extremely confident. She knows she's on the better looking side, which only inflates her vanity and ego. Thus, the majority of the time she comes across as arrogant. It can be helpful in some situations, but otherwise, it just makes most people roll their eyes. As she's only 16, she has a bit of growing up to do. Her confidence can lead to careless or reckless decisions, but also enables her to be an ambitious girl. She knows what she wants out of life and will fight and work hard for it. A good competition never hurt anybody, did it?

Carleigh is a sociable girl, always out with a different group of friends and she enjoys partying. She loves meeting new people and is quite extroverted. Chances are she'll be at every social gathering out there. Her extroversion leads to the impression that Carleigh is cheerful, outgoing and enthusiastic. On most days, this is true unless she is extremely sleep deprived and hasn't had a cup of coffee or three.

At times, Carleigh can be too harsh or judgemental. She's in tune to her feelings and isn't afraid to be brutally honest. No matter what comes across her mind, she will communicate the thoughts. Her bluntness is one of her biggest downfalls, but Carleigh's honesty can be appreciated at times.

Strengths:Carleigh has strong communication skills, and is able to interact with almost anyone from any social background. She is great at finding incredible deals on almost anything in a shopping mall. Carleigh is also a determined, hard working girl who isn't afraid of a challenge. Ever since she was little, Carleigh sought independence and is quite self sufficient.

Weaknesses:Her arrogant, stubborn nature can also lead Carleigh to take one a challenge too big for herself. She won't admit defeat either and the majority of the time it only makes the problem worse. She needs to learn to accept other people's help instead of continually placing herself on a higher pedestal than everyone else. One of her biggest weaknesses is sleep. Carleigh doesn't sleep much due to her insomnia. Everyday she is plagued with headaches (as a side effect from her ability and as a lack of sleep/caffeine) that, on a good day, will be minor but can get quite severe.

Fears:Even though she prides herself on being independent, Carleigh's biggest fear is being alone. She hates being alone in a silent room. Interaction with others is a much. She also has a fear of blood that can cause her to faint at times.

History

Living in one of the wealthier upper class neighbourhoods, Carleigh grew up in a seemingly spoiled life. She always had the newest toys amongst her vast collection and the latest technology. Every wealthy family seems to have secrets within, though. Her mother Jennifer has a slight alcohol problem that leads to blackout binges and several hospital scares. This only lead to her father Alexander leaving on more and more business trips to escape from the not so perfect family. Due to her nonexistant parents, Carleigh learnt how to be independent from a young age.

As children, herself and her brother Brody were close, especially for siblings. Rarely did they fight and instead, helped raise each other. Brody was her idol, her everything. Until, the day. March 15th, 2010. A few months before her 13th birthday.

Carleigh had been over at her friend Rebecca's house for a sleepover. There were a bunch of girls, all from the same upper class district. The night had passed smoothly, watching movies and gossiping and giggling like preteens do. When everyone had laid down to sleep, Carleigh had a sneaky thought. Excited, she turned to Rebecca and whispered "Hey Rebecca, listen to me. I have a great idea." Little did she know her best friend was asleep, in one of the NREM stages. The little girl stirred, but didn't wake up. "Let's scare the other girls."

This was the beginning of the subliminal hypnotic suggestion. Together, the girls devised a plan that would result in Rebecca being choked by Carleigh like she had gone off the deep end. It was perfect. The execution was flawless, until Carleigh noticed an off look in her friend's eyes. They appeared glassy and out of focus. Scared, she shook Rebecca and the physical contact resulted in the girl waking up and screaming in fear. Everyone at the sleepover wanted Carleigh to leave, Rebecca insisting that "she had mind control over me!"

The thing that hurt the most was her brother's reaction. Brody was 17 at the time, acting as a parental figure for Carleigh. With tears streaming down her face, she recalled the tale and Brody, instead of being sympathetic, laughed. After he ceased his laughter, Brody told Carleigh she was being foolish. Ever since then, their relationship has been strained and the family is only growing further apart.

After experimenting on her family a couple more times, one of the officials from Hammel came to Carleigh's house late at night, one of many sleepless nights. She had been scared, of course, but relieved. Now somebody could help her understand and control her ability, one she has grown to resent and blames for the problems in her past. Carleigh has been at Hammel Institute for the past 3 years and fears what the future will bring after leaving.

Maybe not my parents.... Marissa thought to herself. Why did her parents have to be extremely religious and against any sort of relationship that wasn't centered around a good, Christian white male?

Marissa laughed alongside her, deciding to not comment on that fact. "Well, I think you're nice. It's hard to find people that are real in this town." She said. Once the girl came closer, a faint, warm smell enveloped Marissa. It was hard to explain. The scent wasn't anything in particular, but the girl smelled... inviting. Good. Her nose tickled with the scent and reached to examine the record with a nod. Her arm lightly brushed against the girls, giving Marissa the chills.

Frozen and silent, Marissa nervously licked her lips again. With a nod, she struggled to gain composure. "Yeah." Marissa said simply. West Oak. If there had been any chance before between the two of them, it was destroyed. Marissa cursed her East Oak heritage and smiled. "I... you... it's beautiful, really. I heard it first at my grandfather's house. When he passed, I got his collection and ever since then I've been in love." Marissa realized the girl probably didn't care, but found herself rambling about little, insignificant things around her.
