Set 2017
Late night date night, always her favorite times. It meant relaxing from school, from work, from everything else and just spending time with someone that she simply couldn't imagine not having in her life. So many things had happened between them, more than she liked to count or could count for that matter. It had been rough and insanely brutal to both of them a few years ago and what had suddenly changed between them, she wasn't quite sure she knew. She couldn't dwell on the past though, not anymore, not when she was so happy. It was refreshing being so content with the way her life was panning out. She had accepted her mother's death and was over the grieving. She forgot all about the former 'love of her life' who ditched out on her. Her father was part of her life and slowly becoming more important to her. And she didn't feel like the world was falling apart anymore.
All in all, life was pretty great.
These weekly date nights she had with Lani always found some way to be different than the last. She always found something new to tell him even when they spoke every day. She always found ways of missing him, even when she saw him ever week. And she hadn't felt the need to tell him how much she loved him because she knew that it was implied and that he knew he was the most important person in her world. It was all part of the lessons she'd learned from him. From being put through hell only to come out of it stronger. He'd helped her in ways that she would never be able to explain to him and she had been clean for three years, with no looking back.
Tonight, they were spending their date night at his place and she was cooking dinner. Honestly, she hadn't cooked a whole lot since she was younger, but she still knew how and was quite proud of her abilities. Man, what couldn't she do? Okay, no, she didn't really think that way, but she kind of did. With grocery bags in her arms, she walked up the steps towards the door and kicked her foot against it to signal that she was there. "Lani, open uppp, my arms are gonna fall offff," She exaggerated a bit, but she honestly felt like she was going to drop the groceries at any second. "Hurry, hurry, hurryyy."
