Time Warp: Look Who It Is... (Oriel)

Kodi wasn't actually sure how he'd avoided going to prison for this long.  Whether it was just skill, stealth, or dumb luck, he'd thought he would end up behind bars long before now.  Granted, his life had been far from easy - or pleasant - but at least he'd been free.  He shouldn't have been, though, and he knew it, so he wasn't fighting now as he was led to his cell.

The twenty-four year old had gotten into plenty of fights since his time at Hammel.  He'd done alright with his last couple years at the school, but as soon as he left, he fell into chaos again, drinking all the time, getting into fights, getting kicked out of places, just generally making enemies everywhere he went.  At one point in his life, a couple years ago, he'd messed with the wrong person - a very volatile pyrokinetic, who had left Kodi with a permanent burn along the left side of his face, from the bottom of his cheekbone up to his temple and nearly all the way across his left eyebrow, leaving the skin red and puckered and ugly.  He'd lost a couple fingers in various brawls, had numerous scars running across his body, and was damaged in places he didn't want to admit.

Finally, he'd nearly killed someone in a drunken knife fight, prompting someone to call the cops on Kodi and get him where he belonged.  Maybe there he'd actually be able to just get away from the world and suffer like he should, alone and with his own thoughts.  Maybe if he was lucky they'd give him something to read and he could just stay there, silently and obediently, until he wasted away.

It wouldn't be too bad.  

Kodi shuffled his feet until they reached his room.  Apparently he was going to have a cellmate, who Kodi desperately hoped would just leave him alone, or at least be someone he didn't end up hurting or being hurt by.  As soon as the door opened and he was shoved inside, though, his stomach dropped, and his mouth twisted into shock.

"Oriel?" he asked, his voice raspy and harsh.

Oriel had already been in this god-forsaken place for five years now. Just shortly after he finally managed to graduate from Hammel, things had unfortunately gone downhill very quickly. He let down his friends, his adopted mother, and the love of his life….

He wondered what Phoenix was doing now? Had he given up on him? Oriel knew he took the news pretty hard. It'd been….a long time since he heard from his lover. Oriel was more than worried, but Hay-lin didn't know and nobody else was talking to him. They all stopped visiting a while back, Phoenix included. His only hope was that Phoenix finally decided to move on. Because Oriel was due to get out of here for at least five more years at best. All he could do was wait.

That was really all there was to do. Sure, Oriel went out and did things in his spare time, talked to people, collected some minions and packs from random bets they all placed on fights, but overall, Oriel was still one who liked to keep to himself.

So that's what he did, laying across the bottom bunk with an empty bed above, holding his arms behind his bed as he listened to the ambient noise of chatter in the cold halls of the prison.

He could even hear the footsteps of whom he'd been told was going to be his new cell-mate moving in today. They didn't give a name, but then, Oriel wasn't interested in a name. He yawned and scratched the thick scruff that collected about his chin, then laid back down, his long hair splaying out over his pillow, thick and dirty with grime and sweat. He really needed to shower again.

Oriel opened an eye at the sound of his name coming from a familiar voice. His lips quirked into a sideways smile and he slowly rose from the mattress, catching hold of the underside of the top bunk. "Hmph…" he grunted out his greeting with a sharp gaze. "Well, fuck me sideways, look who it is." Oriel blinked, looking the chinese man up and down. "How the fuck are you?"

Kodi hadn't heard from Oriel in a long time; he'd tried to forget about him when he graduated. Oriel gave him all sorts of weird feelings that he couldn't explain even to himself, and he'd wanted to get away from that lest he fall into the dominant boy's control. He'd heard rumors that the guy had landed himself in prison, but he pretended not to care. Seeing him now, though, sent a weird jolt of emotions through his chest, and for a moment he almost backpedaled and tried to get out of there.

He managed to hold his ground, though, staring at the man through dead, cold eyes, even though his heart was racing. "It is you," he grumbled, eyeing Oriel beneath all of that scruff and hair. Kodi wavered, then stepped a little closer; even in the dim light, his facial burn was obvious, with most of his eyebrow gone and his left eye squintier and angrier than the other. "How am I?" he repeated, letting out a small, humorless laugh. "I'm here. Ain't that explanation enough?"

Kodi took a moment to look around the room - it wasn't much, but he hadn't expected a lot. "How long you been here?" he asked, swiping a hand through his ragged, dirty blonde hair. "Can your little bird get along without'cha?" He didn't know what had happened to Phoenix, and he didn't really care - it was only Oriel he'd ever really cared all that much about.

With a grunt, he came forward and settled down against the guy, grimacing as he settled down from some old pain that had become just a part of his life over time. He was fighting between being cold and distant, or smothering Oriel right there - he was relieved to see him, in a way, though he didn't expect any affection from Oriel. And it didn't mean Kodi was gonna be all rainbows and butterflies either. "Y'look terrible," he huffed.

Of course Kodi hadn't heard from Oriel in a long time, Oriel had been in here for most of that time. Well, Kodi didn't know that. He remembered when they'd first met, how much Oriel hated the chinese southerner because he just happened to remind Oriel a lot of himself. And yes, he found out later, they were definitely similar in a lot of way, it was just a matter between internalizing vs externalizing the demon within. But that was also the reason why Oriel had also felt drawn to Kodi, because they shared that chaos.

If Kodi had any fears of Oriel controlling him…then they were well founded, because that's exactly what Oriel wanted to do.

Control him. Own him.

And now that they were together again, locked inside the same little room together….

"You expectin' Santa Clause or something?" Oriel held out his hands, showing that yes, it was him. "Yeah, you're here. Guess I mean, what for? ….don't have to answer." Just like at Hammel, where one of the standard greetings was "what's your power", here was the same with what you did to land you in here. But Oriel wasn't going to force it from Kodi…yet.

Oriel shrugged, continuing to hang his arms above him off the other bed. "Five years, 3 months, 27 days…." Amazing how easy it was to keep track. He growled at the next comment then looked down to the floor. "Don't know. Hasn't been in for a while." A long while. Oriel was worried.

The burn on Kodi's face was a surprise. He didn't miss the missing fingers. Nor the wince as Kodi sat down. The guy had been through a lot, it seemed. And again, Oriel wasn't going to force him to tell about it…yet. "Not as much as you," he snarked back. "I just gotta take a shower." He was probably starting to reek by now.

Kodi should have realized right away (and maybe he did, in the back of his mind) that being alone here with Oriel without anyone that really cared about them might have been dangerous for the Chinese boy. For all the people that worked here cared, they could beat and rape each other senseless and no one would lift a finger. And he had no doubt that Oriel was capable of both of those things and more. Hell, he probably was too, only most of his fight had left him the moment those handcuffs snapped around his wrists. He'd still put up a scuffle, but it was unlikely he'd start a physical fight - verbal abuse, however, was still very much an option.

"Maybe. Got any presents for me?" he snarked, his lips twitching into a half-grin. He stared down at Oriel's hands, and glanced at his own - one of them was missing nearly the whole pinky, and the other had the first joint gone on the two longest. At the question, he shrugged, hunching his shoulders and staring at the floor. "Does it really matter?" he asked at first, then shook his head. "Whatever. I almost killed someone. Actually, he might be dead now, he was pretty bad when they took me in." He shrugged again, glancing up at Oriel to see his reaction. "Honestly, I'm surprised it took them this long t'get me in. I didn't do a shit'a good bein' out there." He shook his head and sighed, looking up at the ceiling. "What about you?"

His good eye widened as Oriel spouted off how long he'd been in here. "Damn. No wonder I haven't seen you around." Kodi rubbed his knee with his palm, releasing a heavy breath. "Really? That's strange, he was hooked onto you like a tick." It gave him an idea for something to use against Oriel later, because... This civil stuff was boring. He'd end up trying to get a rise out of the guy sooner or later. "Maybe he croaked." It was the only thing he could think of.

Kodi lowered himself onto his back against the mattress, his legs still hanging off the edge, and snorted at what Oriel said next. "Yeah, shame, ain't it? Fuckin' pyro ruined my face. Now I'll never be beautiful again." He let out a harsh laugh, which ended in a series of rough coughs. "Maybe I'll get lucky an' I'll be too ugly for anyone here t'try an' fuck, at least," he snorted. "It ain't too pretty on the bottom end either."

The years that Oriel had spent in this place had hardened him more than ever. If he hadn't been a fucking psycho before, then he certainly was now. While he watched himself when he could, did his best to keep off the radar of the guards, Oriel was no stranger to violence and pretty damn casual about it at this point. Rape was something that happened all the time, though less than one percent of them were reported for fear of further retaliation. Plus, there were circles. Oriel had accumulated his own set of minions and bitches to do and command as he pleased. And everyone knew if they messed with one of those people, they'd have to answer to this psycho.

Kodi could easily become another, if he pleased Oriel enough.

"Depends. Might have something here in my sack. You been a good boy or naughty this year?" Oriel might share with Kodi too why he was there, though it was probably a no-brainer at this point, considering how explosive the boy had been when he was younger. "Almost?" But he probably was by now? "So…you still going through the trial proceeding. Haven't even been sentenced yet! Well, good luck to you!" Oriel smacked the china man on the back in a gesture of encouragement. It was somewhat genuine. "For your sake, I hope he lives. Means you might get outta here faster." By the time the trial was over, he might be released with time already served. Lucky bastard.

Of course he would ask. Oriel had told the story enough times that he knew how to do it without going into too much detail. The lawyers taught him to do that. "Had an argument with my boss. Got in a fight. Stabbed him with a screwdriver….11 times." Simple as that. Not so simple. Oriel remembered the moment like it was yesterday. He could still smell the blood.

In the past, Kodi's jabs about his relationship with Phoenix would have riled him up, or at least gotten him a sharp glare, but Oriel didn't respond. He just looked down with a sad smile. "I prefer to think he moved on." It made it easier to get through the day.

"What? You were beautiful?" Oriel shot back. It was a shame to hear about his goods though. "Yeah, if you're lucky. I'll tell you, you think I have no standards? Some of the guys in here are even worse." Oriel had seen some pretty weird shit in this place.

Kodi could very well become submissive to Oriel now. He was tired, and had pretty much given up on being able to have any sort of a successful life. All he wanted to do now was retreat and hopefully sink into his books. Although with Oriel around, that was probably going to be unlikely... If he was even given books to read at all, he didn't know.

"Whatchu think?" he snorted, gesturing to his body. "I ain't like this because I'm nice t'everyone I meet, ya know. I'd get the biggest lump'a coal Santa has t'offer." He rubbed at a dark spot on his arm unconsciously. When Oriel started speaking optimistically, Kodi's expression stayed cold and emotionless, though he winced and grunted as Oriel slapped his back. "Honestly, I think I'm better off in here," he grumbled. "S'where I belong. As soon as I get back out there, I'd just get into fights again." Eventually one of those fights would kill him, certainly. And as much as he acted the opposite, he really didn't want to die just yet. He just... Couldn't control himself sometimes. He didn't know how else to release his anger.

His gaze lifted as Oriel spoke about his own story. It was short, but violent, and Kodi cringed. "An' I thought you were doin' better," he grunted. "Sounds like somethin' I'd do." If he had ever got an actual decent job.

He was surprised that Oriel didn't react as he had expected to his jabs, and it... Kind of irked him. He had liked when he could get a rise out of Oriel; it made him feel powerful. Even now, stuck here with nothing to protect him, he wanted that animalistic tension that used to be between them. "Yeah, well..." he snorted. "I would've fucked him if I'd known you were gone." His mouth twisted cruelly. "If I get outta here before you, I might have t'go see if I can pay him a visit."

What was he doing? Even Kodi wasn't sure. Oriel just had a way of... Screwing with his head.

"Oh, shut up," he growled. "You liked t'fuck me, but I guess you prob'ly liked my ass better than the rest'a me anyway." He sneered weakly, his canines extending just barely over his lower lips. "An'... Whatever. I'll just tear out their throats." Yeah, like he could take on anyone here. He was probably going to get shat on the first day out, his wounds were just asking for trouble, and he was awfully weak.

Kodi, being the cripple he was, could probably only hope right now to be taken under Oriel's wing. Sure, the southerner would be fucked like a bitch to please Oriel's nightly needs as he pleased, but at least nobody else would mess with him….probably. It'd be better for Kodi in the long run and Oriel would make sure his time there, however long it lasted and however long he could, was as peaceful and comfortable as he could make it. Hell, if Kodi turned into one of Oriel's favorites(he always had been in the past), Oriel would downright spoil the new arrival.

"Well, you know I never been picky," Oriel said with a subdued spark in his eye. One of intent. Though Kodi's perspective on his future was pretty bleak, about as bleak as Oriel's was his first day. And to be perfectly honest, it didn't get better the longer you were in here. You just figured out how to cope with it, how to live with it, but it never got any better. And for one as volatile as Kodi, or Oriel for that matter - that was one trait that both boys had shared from the very beginning - it was too too easy to get caught up in the mentality that things just didn't matter anymore. That what you did didn't matter anymore. And that made it far to likely that fights were going to break out. Deadly ones too, considering the company they were keeping.

There was obviously a lot more to that story, but Oriel wasn't about to tell it. But Kodi was right, he had been doing better. Phoenix and he were happy. They were considering adopting a kid once they settled down a bit more and give parenthood a try. Oriel wondered how that would have worked out, if he hadn't done what he'd done. Or rather, if he hadn't been caught. Because Oriel was sure he'd have done it again given the chance.

Phoenix had taken Oriel's arrest hard. He'd come and visited as often as he could. But it was clear that the korean wasn't doing well without his lover. Every time he came in, Phoenix looked just a little bit worse. He could tell he was using again. Oriel had told him to get in a program, to get himself clean and independent to be able to stick it out until either Oriel got out or Phoenix moved on. Oriel had even told his love to go to Gryphon, to let his childhood friend take care of him. He could only hope that that's what he'd done.

Oriel kept his gaze down, not responding how Kodi expected him. "If you do, take care of him, alright?" Kodi wasn't exactly the best person to ask for it, but he was better than the alternative…of leaving him alone.

He chuckled lightly, reflecting back on the memories when they would fuck just for the sake of fucking. It was more like an animalistic fight for dominance with them though, the more violent, the better. "You're ass was pretty tasty, I'll say that." Though Oriel had to admit that he liked Kodi in his own twisted way, not just for the sex. "Heh, don't hurt yourself. Wouldn't want you do get yourself killed on your first day." Which was something he'd seen often enough from new inmates who just couldn't deal.

Kodi could have definitely had it worse off... As much as the two had clashed when they'd first met, at least they knew each other and, at least in Kodi's case, liked the other... In a way. Probably in an unhealthy way, but still. If he was going to be abused, at least it was by someone he was fairly certain at least wouldn't kill him. He could handle anything else; he'd already dealt with more than he cared to remember.

As long as he could just stay here and have his books... He'd survive. Oriel could do what he wanted, abuse Kodi if he wished, but it was better than the world out there could be sometimes. And, really, Oriel seemed... Calm, almost. Less volatile. But maybe it was just the moment; he could still probably explode at any given time.

Kodi stood, feeling antsy, and paced around the room a bit. Talking about Phoenix made him wonder how Erik was doing. Not that the two of them had been as close as Oriel and his lover, but... Kodi still cared about that silly hick more than he cared about pretty much anyone else. He wondered if Erik would visit...

He blinked, brought out of his thoughts by Oriel's unexpected answer. It made his cruel facade fade away, his his expression went flat as he looked away. "Yeah... Yeah, alright," he mumbled, not knowing what else to say. He couldn't be an ass anymore about a subject that obviously meant so very much to Oriel. Kodi found himself hoping Phoenix was alright. "I'll... Do what I can, I guess." It wasn't like he planned on getting out of here anyway, though.

Kodi let out a snort as the topic returned to more... Familiar things. "I could say the same for you, whenever I actually got to abuse it," he snickered, settling back down again, this time close enough so their legs brushed. "I didn't get t'top nearly as much as I would've liked to." Mostly because he liked being fucked by the other dominant boy way more than he wanted to admit. "Oh, don't worry about me. I'll survive. I gotchu t'watch my back, don't I?" Without warning, he leered in close and brought his lips just a hair away from Oriel's. "We just might have some fun, bein' roommates." That was the way to think positive.

It was a love/hate relationship between Oriel and Kodi for the longest time. And it was one that Oriel never regretted having. For that, at least, Oriel would be more than likely to watch over Kodi for as long as he could while they were both in here.

What Kodi would find out was that there was actually a lot to do here. Programs to keep the inmates occupied if they so wished. Oriel himself was working some odd jobs, gaining so-called employable skills to prepare him whenever, if ever he was to get out. With help from his adopted family, Oriel was even taking classes towards a degree, though that was going long and slow. If all Kodi wanted to do in here was read his book, then he very well could, provided nobody forced him into other things.

Oriel didn't move as Kodi stood to pace about the room. He was getting restless it seemed. Anxious. Kodi would soon learn that those feelings were useless and only worked against you, especially if you showed them. It was a rare day that anybody knew what Oriel was really feeling…if he was feeling anymore at all. He could often seem like a soulless husk at times while at others, merely cold and calculated. Emotionless.

"Thanks," Oriel spoke sincerely. He knew there was a small likelihood that Kodi would get out of here, but at least if he did, Oriel could be secure in the fact that Phoenix would be taken care of somehow.

Kodi's next comment, in response to the musings of the past, made Oriel laugh out loud. It was a rare day that Oriel had ever let Kodi dom him, but it happened often enough, though even then Oriel was still the one in control most of the time. "Well…you definitely ain't going to here." Oriel couldn't let that happen now, even if he would want it. "What? You think I'm gonna take care of you?" How presumptuous, even if it was true. Oriel didn't blink as Kodi brought his face in close to Oriel's. "Maybe," he agreed with a smirk. They were going to get along fine. Well, they would have to if they planned to make it out of here alive.

Kodi, even though his love for books was nearly an obsession, would likely want to do other things eventually, even if he didn't realize it now, so having other options available was definitely good. He did want to stay in shape, at least, so if they had some sort of weight-lifting room or something, that'd be a bonus. He was weaker than he used to be - and his body had taken enough so that he'd probably never be as toned as he had been - but it'd be something, at least.

But the antsy-ness would calm down, he was sure. Or at least he hoped. Kodi was just feeling restless and agitated about having Oriel as his roommate; he'd get used to it eventually. It was just... Weird, how fate worked it out.

"Don't mention it," he grumbled. He paused. "You seen Erik at all?" Kodi assumed probably not - otherwise the freckled boy would have told him, right? Damn... Kodi was really gonna miss that boy's services. Not that he had much to work it on anyway...

Speaking of. He snorted at Oriel's comment, shrugging his shoulders. As much as he talked and acted, his drive really wasn't as strong as it used to be. It was there, but... Well, it was hard when things didn't work like they should. "Whatever you say, scruffy," he grumbled. "Make me scream nice an' loud for the other inmates t'hear." Make the others know Oriel owned him. Whatever. Kodi could still play mental games if he wanted to. "I think you will," he replied boldly, smirking as he let a single canine jut out over his lower lip. "You liiiike me." He pecked Oriel's lips before pulling back, painfully laying down on his back again. He stared up at the bunk above. "You ever think about what might've happened t'us if we got our lives straightened out?" he mused aloud.

Clearly there were facilities where one could work out. Even after being here for five years, Oriel was obviously still in great shape. There was little else to do, so exercise and weightlifting was one of the things that many inmates fell to.

Oriel shook his head, pursing his lips a slight. "Nah, haven't seen that ho since graduation." He wondered what that blue-eyed slut was doing right now? Oriel wouldn't put it past him to just straight up become a prostitute, honestly. Heh…he'd be good at it too.

He smirked at Kodi's words. Scruffy, was he? Hey, he liked this look. "Sure. You can expect me to sandpaper your asshole with this scruff you oh, so love." And that smirk spread out into something evil and full of intent. Oriel merely blinked as Kodi pecked his lips over his own and taunted him.

As Kodi laid down, Oriel rose silently, listening to Kodi's useless musings. "Sure. In my fantasies, I'm happily married with the most adorable daughter in the world." But honestly, the time for idle chatter had long past.

Oriel leaned his arms against the edge of the top bunk, looking down Kodi with a sly smile. Then, without warning, he kicked the bottom of his heel into Kodi's stomach with barely a change in expression. He reached down and gripped tight to that southerner's hair, yanking it back so that Kodi was facing up, then snatched the man's chin tightly between his thumb and forefinger. That's when Oriel delivered his message. "Now you listen to me, you little shit. You do not kiss me. I kiss you, do you understand? If you want it, you're going to have to beg for it, on your hands and knees like a fucking dog." He gripped harder on Kodi's hair and dug his fingers into his cheeks. "That's how it works here. Got it?" Oriel showed no anger, didn't raise his voice, but instead talked down to his new bitch, in a calm, firm voice. He stared down on Kodi with a dead look, waiting for his response.

"Mmm..." Kodi's brow furrowed. He wondered if Erik would bother to visit him if and when he found out. Whatever... It wasn't like they were boyfriends, not... Really... Kodi tried to push the stupid hick out of his head.

He simply grunted at Oriel's snide remarks, knowing full well that he'd likely be feeling all that and more sooner rather than later. He'd live. Kodi was sure he'd been through worse. Probably.

Married with a daughter? Kodi hadn't expected that. He was still sort of up in the clouds, imagining what he could have done with his life if he wasn't so fucked up. "Yeah, well, I would've-"

Before he could share his own sappy imagination, he suddenly felt Oriel's foot crash painfully into his stomach. Wheezing, Kodi curled in on himself, but he had little time to register the pain before his head was jerked back; he let out a whine, his eyes trained on Oriel's, both of them scrunched up in pain and displeasure. His lips set in a defiant snarl, though, as Oriel started speaking his rules. Oh, no, Kodi wasn't going to give in that easy, not after all the shit he'd gone through. He knew he didn't stand a chance against Oriel if push came to shove, but he had some pride left to break down.

"An' what happens if I don't follow yer rules, O High and Mighty?" he growled, fists clenched. He knew he was walking on the edge here; Oriel could do anything he wanted to Kodi and no one could stop him. "You gonna beat me up? Tattle on the prison guards? 'Oh, sir, my new cellmate ain't listenin' t'me, make him behave~'" This last bit was said mockingly, and Kodi brought his hands up to Oriel's wrists, trying to shove him off. This scenario had quickly changed moods, and Kodi was fighting to keep up more than he let on.

With the pleasantries out of the way, Oriel didn't have to sugarcoat his words anymore. Well…his words now weren't crass and raw and full of disdain like they often were when he was younger. Nor were they tainted with a sick pleasure. No, it was far more casual than that. Like he was still holding a normal conversation, maybe with a bit of firmness in his tone, but the passion behind them was dead.

"I'm not your enemy, Kodi," he explained, pulling just a little tighter on Kodi's scalp. "Look over there, you see them?" Oriel glanced through the bars of their cell, where a couple of guards stood a fair distance away. "They ain't just happening to be looking away. Plausible deniability, they call it. If they don't see, it didn't happen."

"Now…what do you think might be happening the next time they "ain't looking"?" He asked, leaning only further in close to Kodi's ear. "Right here, so long as you keep by my rules, it might not be so bad. Hell, I'll treat you good but…" He pushed Kodi forward, forcing him to look out to the halls. "Out there they ain't so nice. If a cripple like you pisses 'em off too bad, who knows what they'll do or where they'll fuck." Heck, there wasn't even a guarantee that Kodi would survive with Oriel's protection, much less without it. "Now I can keep 'em off you, no problem but…if you don't keep by my rules then…I'm liable to just let 'em do what they want."

Not too hard to understand, right? A smile creeped slowly over Oriel's face. "Still feeling defiant?" he asked, though he didn't give Kodi a chance to answer and merely shoved his head forward into the post of the bunk. Oriel stood, that empty smile still persisting alongside his equally hollow eyes.

Kodi wasn't sure what had changed the situation so abruptly, but he realized that he had preferred the calm, quieter, less temperamental person he had been only moments before than this scarily apathetic, monotonous person he had become. It wasn't going to be an easy ride at all, was it?

Despite his defiance, Kodi's breath was coming quick and shallow as Oriel gripped onto him, his chest pumping up and down with each one. His mouth was set in a sneer, but it didn't have the same easy, lazy snark that he used to have. "Sounds like they're doing a shit job," he growled, though it sounded suspiciously close to a whimper. He was trying to think of a way out of this, and his mind was blank.

He understood what Oriel was doing, and he hated him for it. On the one hand, he would have to do whatever Oriel wanted, whenever he wanted, and it would grant him a better chance of surviving.
