(Dated back to Saturday, December 14)
God, the apartment was a mess. A mixture of dirty and clean clothes was strewn everywhere, and a few boxes which hadn't been unpacked sat open on the floor. Between her day job, her night job, and the little sleep she was able to get between those, Alista hadn't had any time to clean it. And now she was having Kam over. Fuck.
Exhausted as she was, she had to make time for Kamillia. In her attempts to make ends meet and have enough left over to send to her family - Carolina was in a bad spot financially, and she wouldn't let her mom and little sister go hungry - she had sacrificed all of her time to the yawning vortex of work. Even when she was tired, sleep had to go by the wayside. There was no way she had had time for friends on top of that. Still, when Kam had called her, she had seemed off somehow - a little less secure, a little more stressed. Alista wasn't exactly the best at comforting people, but she could at least try - and besides, didn't she need this too? She hadn't really spent time with anybody in meatspace for months, only chatting with coworkers and online friends in the few minutes of downtime here and there that she could squeeze out of her two jobs. It would be nice to have some time with someone, so she had made it work. Alista had a precious two days of break to enjoy and reconnect with her old friend.
An enormous yawn split her mouth, and she took another swig of coffee from her thermos. Sure, her apartment was tiny/cheap/pathetic, but she could at least make it not messy. Hopefully. She thought. Fuck, did she really only have thirty minutes??!?!
Well, then. Time to get to work. Her ankle had just barely healed from the last time Kam had seem her, and she would make damn sure not to embarrass herself again in a similar way this time. Heaps of clothing clung to Alista's skin as she moved it into hampers - she would sort it out later. She tackled the boxes, unpacking some things but mostly moving them around to appear more presentable. Hopefully Kam at least wouldn't be early.
