Greg couldn’t even remember how it happened. At first, he simply approached the blonde with an empty chair to her right in History ‘cause he forgot to do the readings and she seemed like she did. Next thing he knew, he’s inviting her over to his room to watch a few movies – ‘Mean Girls’ and ‘White Chicks’ to be exact.

Smooth, eh?

Deciding on which day they’d be watching the said movies was a little tricky – there was homework schedule and angsty roommates to be wary about *coughDylancough*. But in the end, after a week’s worth of stalkingobserving his cranky roommate’s schedule, the telepath finally found an opening. So movie night was a go.

Laptop’s connected to the flatscreen TV in the common place in their dorm room, two bags of chips and pretzels were transferred into bowls and popcorn was, well, popping in the microwave. All that’s missing was the friend to watch it with.

Hopefully she won’t ditch. Because he'd hate for the food to go to waste and he'd be forced to eat it. Which meant longer hours in the gym and too much for work lazy old him.

Carleigh walked down the corridor of the boys' dorm floor, glancing at each number. For once, she felt well rested and awake without too much coffee consumption. Perfect, since the blonde didn't want to embarrass herself in front of her newfound friend Greg. The two had met in history class recently, where surprisingly Carleigh had done the readings the night before (nothing else better to do as an insomniac) and helped the guy out. The two hit it off almost immediately and planned a movie night. Much to his chagrin, Carleigh had never seen the cult movie Mean Girls. Which apparently, was a crime.

So here she was, roaming down the unfamiliar hall until she found room 508. Carleigh tucked her phone away, which had all the details of the movie night. She tried to dress down in more casual clothing, wearing a pair of black leggings paired with a light pink camisole and denim jacket. Carleigh took a nervous, deep breath. The guy was cute, and hey, was it illegal to try and leave a good impression?

Not bothering to knock, Carleigh opened the door to the dorm with a wide smile. "I'm hereee." she sang, making her way into the room.

Greg was a little surprised when the door suddenly opened – what the fuck I left the door unlocked? – but when he saw that the intruder’s face was the one he’s been expecting, he decided to let it slide. No need to make a big fuss out of nothing. And it’s not like he’s currently indecent or anything.

“Hey you,” he grinned, putting a third bowl – now filled with a mix of candy and M&Ms – down as he walked over and gave Carleigh a hug. That’s not considered intrusive when it came to new friendships right? (God, has it really been that long since he made new friends? Those he met, and hung out with, without his current friend group, that is). “How’d the day go? And look at you looking all fancy. Love the jacket.” God how he missed his own. “Way to make me look shabby,” he added with a laugh. Not that he minded. It was supposed to be a chill night, hence his simple white shirt and grey sweats.

“Couch is over there. I’ve set the laptop up already so feel free to press play,” added the telepath as he walked towards the fridge, “So water, milk, orange juice or pop? We only have sprite or coke unfortunately.” Personally he’d prefer rootbeer, but he hasn’t had the chance to go to town and grab a few groceries (or even explore Pilot Ridge even).

Shutting the door behind her, Carleigh smiled back at Greg. Hopefully he didn't mind her intrusion. Afterall, she was invited over.

"Hey Greg." Carleigh continued to grin. Mmm, the smell of popcorn. She looooooved popcorn, and other sweets. "After tonight I am going to be so fat." She said, decidedly. When Greg came in for the hug... it was a little unexpected. Not that Carleigh minded. She was outgoing and open to physical contact. Not to mention Greg was a cutie. Carleigh definitely didn't mind the hug. She wrapped her arms around him and laughed, a faint blush rising to her cheeks. "Oh, don't worry about not looking good. This is basically dressing down for me." Carleigh said nonchalantly. It was true. The blonde usually wore dresses and skirts, and it felt... uncomfortable wearing just leggings. "Thanks." She accepted the compliment. "I love denim jackets."

"Alright cool." Carleigh beamed. "Uhm, sprite is good." She wasn't picky. "We going to watch Mean Girls first?" she asked, heading over towards the couch. Carleigh took a few of the candies, popping them into her mouth. Even though her new friend probably had seen the movie at least a dozen times, she didn't want to start without him.

“Pssh, doubt it,” laughed Greg when Carleigh said she’d be fat after tonight, “This has been my life for about a week now and I haven’t been to the gym yet and I still look ok.” He gave his stomach a quick smack. “Ok well maybe there’s a little bit of flab developing. But don’t tell anyone. Valentine’s Day is coming and we don’t want any potential dates to think I’m a fatass.” The best way to bounce back from a break-up was to find a rebound after all. Unfortunately all the hot guys are hiding from me. Sad. He grabbed a cup, a bottle of Sprite and a carton of milk for himself. “How ‘bout you? I’m pretty sure a girl like you already has plans A to Zed for Valentine’s eh?” he teased as he sat down beside her.

Teasing’s ok right? After all, the hallmark of true friendship was the ability to mock each other in quick succession. Hopefully she wouldn’t think he’s moving too fast.

He picked up that faint after-thought of her in skirts, and still unable to differentiate between thought-speak and verbal-mouth-speak, so he added, plopping what appeared to be five M&Ms in his mouth all at the same time, “Pssh. You look fierce in leggings. I like it. Though the skirt from two days ago was amazing too.”

But the world wasn’t too kind to the telepath and well, he discovered that 3 out of those M&Ms were actually Skittles. “Fuck! Who put Skittles in here!” he yelled as he ran to the sink and spit the offending pieces of candy out. Dylan. I will kill him. “So sorry. This’ll be a struggle.”

"To be honest, I rarely go to the gym." Carleigh admitted. Sure, the occasional time she went but she really needed to started going because her metabolism was probably going to start slowing down. Carleigh gave Greg a quick wink. "Our little secret, don't worry." Then, the weirdest thing happened. She swore that she heard Greg talking about... something, mentioning hot guys. But he wasn't talking. It was like it was projected into her head. She was totally confused, and decided it would be best to drop it and not bring it up. Carleigh liked Greg as a person and didn't want movie night to be awkward. If he dug guys, then hey, who was she to judge?

"If by plans you mean waiting until February 15th to go into town and buying discounted chocolates for myself, then yes." Carleigh joked. "To tell the truth, since coming here... oh, four years ago, haven't had a single boyfriend." There had been a couple flings and a few innocent kisses but nobody noteworthy. "Hey, if all else fails we can just be each other's dates and drown in discount chocolate!" She laughed at the thought of her and Greg tearing into heart shaped boxes and eating chocolate.

Carleigh beamed. "Thanks!" Compliments were an easy and direct way to her shallow heart.

She watched him run to the sink, giggling slightly under her breath. "Oh come on, Skittles are yummy too." she said, reaching into the bowl. "Think of it.. like russian roulette. But with candy and much safer." She grabbed a small handful, tossing pieces into her mouth. "Who is Dylan?" she asked, figuring her friend had said the name out loud. All she heard was the name Dylan, though. "Seriously though, you going to live Greg?" Carleigh teased.

Greg picked up on Carleigh’s confusion the same time he picked up the bowl of pretzels and settled down on the couch. Like really now? Can we not? he thought. Not to the blonde’s thoughts but to his power acting up. As much as he liked knowing what people thought straight-up – the boy’s never been fond of small talk or the whole beating-around-the-bush thing, and subtlety had always been his weakest skill – he also hated the fact that sometimes he picked up on things that make the current situation at hand very awkward even when it didn’t need to be.

Like that time in Biology when he learned that the black guy beside him – he didn’t know his name; his power lets him know the most intimate details of a person’s life but not their names, handy really – was secretly a Brony and roleplays as Pinkie Pie in an online forum. (To put in context, said black guy was ripped and huge. Like, Greg’s six-foot-two and he still thought the guy was a giant).

Or that time he picked up on one of the maintenance personnel’s torrid fantasy about his Algebra teacher. (At least Greg opted to think that it was just a fantasy. Because that was some kinky shit).

Know what, I’m just going to leave it at that. No harm, no foul. It’ll be awkward if he just came out of nowhere. (Pun totally intended). ‘Sides, movie’s starting. And as much as he’d love to talk, the blonde needed to be educated about the Bible.

The movie version anyway.

“Oh god yes! Eating my feelings away is one of my favourite past times,” the brunette beamed when Carleigh suggested they should head out and grab chocolates after the day of hearts. “Oh don’t lie. A girl like you, I figured they’d be here, there and everywhere.”

He scrunched his face up when Carleigh suggested that Skittles were yummy. Given that she hasn’t seen Mean Girls yet, he figured he’d let her pass. “Dylan’s my annoying roommate. Had a lovely first encounter with him. I’d tell you about it once the movie’s done.” It involved him getting naked in the hallway in a cold winter morning. Lovely really. “Hush, hush. It’s starting.”

Greg tried his hardest not to be that overeager movie fan that squeals whenever “a good scene” will be on – he hated people like that – by stuffing himself with much pretzels and candy and water whenever he felt the urge to be one.

But when this scene came along, the telepath instinctively mouthed all the lines out.

“Sorry,” he whispered once the scene was over, “It’s just…force of habit.”

Carleigh claimed the bowl of plain chips as her own, setting on the couch with her legs crossed and the bowl between the empty space. She took a decent handful, munching down on them as the screen went through the fast forwarded openings. Clapping, the girl beamed ecstatically. "Yes! A fellow fattie!" She hoped that Greg understood it was a nickname, just for fun and for her... and now his love of food. "I love chocolate cvered pretzels. Guilty pleasure." She waved her hand, dismissively. "Well if you know of potential suitors let me know." She joked, wiggling her eyebrows with a chuckle. It's true, the blonde did feel lonely from time to time. Sure, she had TONS of friends but no romance. And by sixteen, Carleigh felt a little dejected about this.

Now, now. Now was not the time for her to go all mopey and pathetic. Carleigh ate another handful of chips, chewing thoughtfully when Greg explained who Dylan was. A story? "Okay, I'll totally hold you to that encounter story." Then, not another word. Or else Greg would have probably killed her.

The half finished bowl of chips sat in Carleigh's lap. Her eyes were glued to the screen, in total concentration. Much to her belief, she was actually enjoying this movie. So far anyway. She noticed Greg mouthing the lines and giggled, shaking her head. "No worries, no damage done." It was kind of... really cute. To see how into this movie he was.
