Any Piercings? None. Although in his college years he considered getting one ear pierced he was too afraid of the needle.
Any Tattoos? No way
Any Scars? A cow stepped on his foot when he was a child, giving him six stitches. He’s a little embarrassed by the story and glad that it’s not something most people would see to ask about.
General Appearance:
Simon is very conscious about his appearance. Though he’s usually not overly-self conscious about it, he does like to look put-together and well dressed before he walks out the door in the morning. And if he feels like someone is looking at him weird, he will worry it’s because something is on his face or stuck in between his teeth. Simon has always been a fan of suits and is very particular about them. Now that his job is more lax, he does dress down from time to time. Still, it’s rare to see him without a tie unless you happen to be at his house in the evening or spot him over the weekend running errands.
Simon was tall and lanky in his youth, but has developed more of a muscular build over the past years. Still with his personal dress code, it’s not something everybody would notice. So sometimes his strength and endurance surprises people.
Simon found his first grey hair in his mid thirties. While he tried to blame it on the stress of his job, it was in his genes to go grey early. By the time he hit 40 there was little of his original blonde left. For a year or two he would dye it to keep looking young, but after hearing Saul call him a “silver fox”, Simon decided to leave it alone. Although he keeps clean shaved most of the time, with his new job in Pilot Ridge, he does let his beard get a little stubbly sometimes.
Personality:
Simon was never exactly an extroverted person, though he could usually fool anyone who saw him in a court room. Still, while he was great at speaking in front of jurors or crowds, actually mingling in a group of people left him feeling drained and anxious. After the incident, Simon has become even more withdrawn. And his public speaking days may be over. The most he feels comfortable with now is a small classroom. And on the first day of the semester, even that is difficult.
Simon has never been very good at taking criticism. He tends to be over critical of himself, so when someone else even hints at something he’s already been worried about, he takes it hard. He’s also the type to worry about a joke someone made weeks ago, wondering what they really meant. Still, he doesn’t have a problem with asking them eventually. He likes to know the meaning of everything in a relationship. “We need to talk” is basically his catchphrase and Saul actually suggested he get it as a tattoo when they had a fight once.
Simon always tries to see the best in others. Sometimes this leads him to believing in someone and being let down or hurt by his unrealistic beliefs later. Still he’s easy to forget and doesn't hold grudges. He is definitely a “the glass is half full” kinda guy.

History
Simon was the second child of two hard working blue collar parents in rural Southern Virginia. Although both his parents had day jobs, they also helped Simon uncles run the families dairy farm. And the children were expected to help out as well. So from an early age, Simon knew how to run the milking machines, how to drive a four wheeler and tractor, and how to bottle feed a calf. Although he enjoyed some parts of it, he loved the calves, it was hard work and he was constantly worried that he couldn't hold up against his older brother. While Simon was always skin and bones, his brother Henry was more muscular. Although Henry did pick on him a little about being scrawny, the brothers did care for each other despite their physical differences.
But when high school started, Simon started to notice another big difference between them. Also Simon had a girlfriend, he got the sense that he didn't feel about her the same way as Henry felt about his girlfriends. One night Henry was talking about driving his girlfriend out to the local makeout spot and asked Simon when he planned on taking his girl out there. When Simon tried to sputter out an excuse, Henry replied "What are ya? Gay or something?" Simon chose this moment to say how he'd been thinking that maybe he was. Henry didn't take it so well and it was a few years before the brothers had a conversation past hello and goodbye.
Ironically, it was Simon's girlfriend that he had told first. And it was she who help him come out to his parents years later when he came home from college for a visit. They took it a little better his brother had, but still were never really comfortable or happy about it. And while Simon still tried to please them and make them see that this was who he was and that was okay and not going straight to Hell, he still wonders if that message ever his home.
While Simon never looked down on his blue collar roots, he worked hard to pursue his education. Partly because of his issues with his brother and partly because he wanted to experience the world, Simon went away to New York for college. His parents thought he'd gone mad to want a "yankee education". While his southern accent still slips in from time to time, Simon spent most of his first year or two at college working on loosing it.
It was also during college that Simon started to explore his sexuality. Though he'd know he was homosexual for a while now, he had never had the courage to act on it in his hometown. He'd been on a few dates, but no sort of relationship that lasted longer than a month or two, when he saw Joshua Bernstein. Worried that maybe it had been his fault things didn't last long before, Simon had taken his time getting to know Joshua before asking him out. And the more he learned about Joshua, the harder he fell for the other boy. Even when he learned that Joshua was already with someone else, he couldn't help but have feelings for him. When Joshua broke up with that someone else, Simon couldn't help but feel glad. And then guilty. It took him a while to work out those feelings so that he could ask Joshua out.
He hoped that the one-sidedness of their relationship was just Joshua trying to work things out as well. And he gave Joshua time. He thought maybe it was the pain of his recent breakup. Or maybe stress with school. Or home. Simon found a million excuses for Joshua. Besides for now he could be invested enough in their relationship for two people. And Joshua would come to see how much he cared for him.
After a year, Simon was running on empty from trying to hold their relationship together. The two had become friends, well acquaintances was more how Simon felt, who sometimes had sex. So Simon sat Joshua down to tell him he needed more from the relationship. After the break-up Simon realized that Joshua had the same response, "Sure", to both being asked to go out and suggesting they should break up.
Simon didn't date for a while after that, he worried that it was he that had been then problem. And a few times when he was really drunk at college parties, he had considered calling Joshua to try to fix what they had.
After college Simon got a job in a law firm and started working his way up the company ladder. He threw himself into the work, and had little time for dating outside of the office. It was actually Saul who noticed him. Before now, Simon had always been the one to start a relationship, so having Saul just walk up to him and ask him for a cup of coffee threw Simon a bit. In a good way. And Simon soon learned that he'd finally found someone who as just as invested in their relationship as he was. Though Simon and Saul discussed past lovers, neither realized that the Joshua they both dated was one in the same.
Their wedding was a small one, neither sets of parents chose to attend. But Simon's brother, Henry, did show up. And his high school girl friend sent a present.
Four years ago, Simon was in the courtroom of a major case. As part of the prosecution, he was glad how the case was turning out and also glad that things were starting to wind down so that the could spend more time with Saul. A friend of the defendant had someone how managed to get a gun into the courtroom and when the jury was about to give their decision, he shot several of them before he was taken down. Simon was a complete mess when he called Saul afterward. If it hadn't been for the fact that Saul had heard the story on the radio, he would have had trouble working out what Simon was saying. As it was, Saul had heard and was already on his way to the courthouse when Simon had called.
Simon refused to go back to work the next day. And that day after that. After a few months, he sat Saul down and said he needed a change. He wanted to get away from the city, find a less stressful career, and start a family. The two had often talked of adopting and Simon's brush with death made him worry they would run out of time.
So about two years ago, Simon and Saul moved to Vermont, just outside of Pilot Ridge. Simon got a job at the University as a Pre-Law professor and enjoys it. The two are also signed up with the local adoption agencies.
