Lani sighed, he had never needed a tutor before. It was a wound to his pride and he would have much rather just dropped the class but it was frustrating that the numbers were foiling him. He had always been good at math and physics. He had literally blow through physics with flying colors, a little bit of his power for consequence but that wasn't really the point. The point was that everyone he's spoken to said that if he could do physics so easily that statistics would be a walk in the park. But it wasn't, not even close. Averages, medians, modes, those were all self explanatory. Root mean square error, probability, and correlation, those were all way over his head. The formulas were easy enough to memorize but he felt like he still didn't know what to put where and why. and they had a test coming up soon. So Lani was swallowing his pride because for once he cared how he did.
He had spoken to someone who said they could tutor him and he was eternally grateful. Lani had been met with difficulty academically when it came to memorizing straight facts and understanding what he was supposed to be getting out of this poem or that. But numbers had always made sense, his pride was wounded and he was stubborn for a long time but a few homeworks where he received and actual plea from the professor to stop by his office of seek further help and that had done it. That was all the more embarrassing. Lani was starting his day out with that and had a bag filled with notes and work and his book for statistics. He had chosen to do this early to get it out of the way, what he was really hoping for was for some magic to happen and for him to suddenly be able to understand statistics, unfortunately he also knew nothing in life worked by magic.
He had a scarf wrapped around his neck and a beanie tucked over his ears as it appeared yet another polar vortex had decided that Vermont just wasn't cold enough on it's own. He was bundled and sincerely hoping that the exposed skin on his face would be able to withstand the short walk from the bus stop to the library where he'd planned to meet Adelaide. He'd emailed her to set up and time and place and he wasn't sure if she would be able to be there on time, but Lani was a tad late because of the bus. He shuffled as quickly as possible into the library and beat the snow off his boots before continuing into the building. He stripped his scarf, hat and gloves off as he walked and he caught sight of Adelaide and gave a little wave. "Sorry I'm late, the bus is moving slow."
