The BasicsName: Salem Michael Hirch
Nicknames: Sa (pronounced Say)
Age: 18
Orientation: Homosexual
Desired Rank/Job: Student
Powers: Projected Illusions
Basically what this power does is cause him to project images from his eyes of things that aren't real. Mostly it's limited to people and creatures; be them real or imaginary. The images are a bit more than just a hologram. They're usually solid and depending on the detail and what the images are doing Salem can hold them there for awhile. The power does have it's drawbacks.
Ever so often he loses focus while projecting or his mind will wander and the image will shift. This is just a minor one of course. It causes the boy to have terrible headaches and eye strain. Making him need glasses for reading and using his powers. Salem also can straight up forget where he is from time to time. Because sometimes, the images reflect back into his head while he's sleeping or just has his eyes closed.

Eye Color: Blue
Any Piercings? Not yet, he plans on it though
Any Tattoos? Same as piercings, he's just waiting for the right time.
Any Scars? Only some superficial ones. Mainly one on his knee from falling out his tree house.
General Appearance: First off, Salem is a very laid back, jeans and t-shirt kind of guy. Getting dressed up and working on his appearance is just not something that's important to him. Granted, from time to time he may do something with his usually messy hair and that's where the preening stops. Nothing about him has ever really been extravagant or lavish. He prefers muted or dull tones, but occasionally wears jewel or bright earth tone colors.
He is a little short for his age, but not by much. He stands at 5ft. 6in tall and weighs around 135 pounds. Sometimes he thinks he's a bit too scrawny, so he wears baggy clothes to cover up. Not all the time though, just when he's been having a off day. Though he's a bit rough, Salem is also the smiley type. He genuinely enjoys smiling. Even on days where he's a little off his mouth is usually curled into a smirk.
Personality: Though he does love to smile and be happy, let's face it. No one is happy all the time. Neither is Salem. In fact, he can even come off as cold and distant. That's mostly when you first get to know him. He's not exactly outgoing, but he will open up and be as fun as he can be. Salem is a bit hard on himself too. Mainly for when he loses track of where he is, or when he drifts off for no reason. So occasionally he can be heard muttering to himself, or talking to someone who isn't there.
To Salem however, the person he's speaking to is in deed very real. Though he doesn't like to speak about it, so he may just blow you off if you ask. Most of the time if he does blow you off, it's because he's lost in his own little world. He daydreams a lot, when he doesn't have his nose stuck in one fantasy novel or another. For the most part Salem is pretty easy going. Enjoying spending time alone as well as with friends. He doesn't judge or really dislike anyone unless they give him a reason too.Your VicesLikes: Smoking: yes he's aware he's to young, but he likes it

Strengths: Salem loves to play guitar and is pretty good at it. It actually helps ground him to reality. He's also very kind and loving and will go out of his way to help someone when he can. Growing up on a farm and helping take care of animals has also made him strong and quick. Not superhuman of course, more or less just tougher in a way.
Weaknesses: He may be stronger and quicker, but he's also a bit of a klutz. Falling out of trees climbing higher than he should. Tripping over his own feet is also pretty normal. Not only that, but on days after he's been confused he can sometimes be moody. Pushing people away and being rude. He doesn't mean anything by it. Just on those days he likes to be left alone.
Fears: Mostly he's scared of letting people get to close to him and then losing them. Even friends he keeps at somewhat of a distance. Also he's afraid people are going to think he's crazy.
Secret: He talks to the vision of his missing brother every night before bed. He loves it, but is slightly embarrassed. It's just his brother reading him a story.Family TiesFather: Burke Hirch

Any Other Important People: N/AHistorySalem's story starts much like most people's. A boy and a girl, they meet in high school and fall madly in love. That's exactly what happened with Annie and Burke. Knowing that they would be together forever the two decided to get married right out of high school. Burke would take over his family's farm and Annie would become a school teacher. This is exactly how it worked out. The two were happy for years and years, but something was always missing. Children.
So, around the time of their fourth wedding anniversary, they started trying. Time and time again they came up with nothing. Annie was becoming a little beside herself about it. No one in either of their families ever had trouble before so it was at the least confusing. It took them almost another two years before they finally conceived their first baby. A boy, whom they later named Aiden. He was absolutely perfect. The spitting image of his father.
The family unit was happy and perfect and stayed that way for the next four years. As Aiden grew into a rambunctious and outgoing little boy, his parents ponder the possibility of another child. On Aiden's fourth birthday his parents took him aside to tell him exciting news. In nine months he was going to have a baby brother or sister. Aiden looked both his parents dead in the eyes and made a vow with such grown up conviction it was almost unbelievable. The little boy swore to his parents to always look out for his little brother no matter what.
Now being four years old there was no way little Aiden could have known that Annie was going to have another boy. Yet, that's exactly what happened. One chilly November evening in fact. The winds were howling across the Nebraska plains and there was a sense of foreboding in the air. Annie felt it. Instincts kicked in and she and Burke got their child and unborn son to the storm cellar. A tornado had just touched down a mile away.
Little did they know that the night was about to become a little rougher. It was almost midnight and the storm cellar doors shook violently as the winds wiped across them. Burke knew they would hold, those doors had lasted through tornadoes before. His wife on the other hand was a different story. Annie suddenly cried out that the baby was coming. There was no time and no way to get her to the hospital, so it was decided that the new baby would have to be born right there.
Luckily Burke had been helping the animals give birth for so long that the physical aspect wasn't much to him. Hearing his wife in that much pain was a bit different. Somehow though mother and baby made it through just fine. Annie named him Salem after her home town and as he cried out for the first time Burke noticed the winds had calmed. Sure enough the storm had passed so he rushed the family to the closest hospital where Annie and Salem were given a full clean bill of health.
As the years went by Salem's parents couldn't help but notice how much different their little boy was compared to Aiden. The elder was outgoing and playful, the younger was more quiet and reserved. Even more surprising was Aiden's devotion to Salem. He knew his little brother didn't like all the same things he did, so he went out of his way to include Salem somehow. Even managing to teach his little brother how to climb trees and play guitar. He didn't need to teach him to sing, Salem could do that just fine. Together they built a simple little tree house and spent much time in it, when they weren't in the loft in their barn.
Years went by and it was always the same. Everywhere Aiden went, Salem followed. Even in his teens the older boy loved to have his younger brother around and protected him fiercely. No one dared bother Salem because they knew that big tough Aiden would be beating them down if they did. Salem didn't mind either. He loved his brother just as much. In fact Aiden was the only person that knew all of Salem's secrets. Now Aiden wasn't exactly as smart as his little brother, but he didn't mind being held back a year. His senior year to be exact. The year he would learn one of Salem's biggest secrets.
In fact it had been a secret the boy had been dwelling over for a year now. Something he knew in his guy at least. It was the summer before Aiden's second time as a senior and the boy was about to leave on a camping trip with some friends. Salem had to tell him before they left. In his fourteen year old mind the boy was terrified, but hid it from his brother as they planned their own little camping trip in the old tree house. One last brother's only evening before Aiden left. As they laid there under the stars Salem just blurted it out. He didn't know any other way to tell him that he was gay.
Aiden just smiled and nodded. He had known for a while now and he admitted to his brother that he was bi, it was a secret they would keep together. Of course this made Salem feel a lot better and he drifted off to sleep that night on his brother's arm. The next day Aiden's noisy friends piled into the house to whisk him away. Not before he pulled Salem aside and told him to be kind, stay himself and be happy. Also, not to take any lip from anyone and he had an even bigger secret to tell him when he got home. They said there goodbyes and hugged. If Salem had only known, he may have held that hug a little tighter.
Two weeks went by and not one word from Aiden. Or any of the other boys for that matter. The police were already called and it had become a full on search. A search that went from weeks, to months, to well over a year. Salem even started helping. Riding his bike as far as his legs would carry him to hand out fliers of all the missing boys, hoping for any kind of news. Some time before the year had passed Salem started to notice things. His head would hurt or his eyes would sting a little. Annie and Burke just figured it was stress and nothing more.
It wasn't until Salem started to see someone sneaking into the barn, or resting casually in the tree house, that things became complicated. The first few times Burke rushed out to both, shotgun in hand and ready for fight, but only to find nothing. This went on for a few weeks before it got worse. Annie started to see it too, as did Burke on occasion. The silhouette was definitely of a teenage boy, but they couldn't figure out who. Salem didn't know either, not at first.
One night the boy crept into his brother's room and snuggled into the bed. As he rolled on his side he noticed a figure in the doorway. Salem set bolt upright when he realized it was Aiden. His older brother strolled in the room like he had never been gone. The younger blonde boy was just about so speak, but Aiden put his finger to his own lips and set down on the edge of the bed. Smiling because he knew this position well, Salem rolled on his back and waited.
Sure enough and seemingly like magic. Aiden produced Salem's favorite children's story. Being a teen now would have normally meant Salem would have hated this. Not a chance, he loved it. His brother's voice drifted into his ears and he slowly started to fall asleep. With a jolt he set up in the morning. His blue eyes darted around the room for Aiden, but he was nowhere to be seen. He could hear people downstairs so he rushed to the kitchen.
There was a police officer there. Salem knew him from town, he was a nice man and came to visit often even before Aiden went missing. Noticing his parents though he almost bounced. Proclaiming that Aiden had come home and read to him last night. No one else seemed excited, and Salem just didn't seem to understand. Burke walked over and set Salem down and explained they had found the truck the boys had taken in a river. No bodies were found, so they were still looking.
Salem figured it had to have been a dream and decided to drop the subject right then and there. It couldn't have been a dream though. Because every night after; Salem's door would open, Aiden would walk in, sit down, and start reading. The boy thought he was going crazy. It wasn't just Aiden either. He started to see other things too. Werewolves in the cornfields. Eels in the bathtub. Once he even saw a very cartoon like ice cream truck drive down his street.
Almost two weeks went by and Salem continued to see things. Nothing that really made sense to him, so he kept quiet about it. He truly did believe he was losing his mind. It wasn't until Aiden's nineteenth birthday rolled around that anyone saw the same things Salem did. He and his mother were in the kitchen. They were talking and joking about Aiden, remembering good times, when a man came to the door. Annie prayed he was there to give her some type of news on Aiden. Instead, the man told her he was was there to talk about Salem. She couldn't have even guessed why, but she stood aside and let him enter. Taking him to the kitchen to meet her son.
Salem was sitting at the table and was making dough for bread. Annie turned to look at him and smiled. He was covered in flour. Salem was always kinda messy. Mostly because he was a bit clumsy. Always falling in puddles or out of trees. The boy was sort of off in his own head, thinking about the time that his mother had just mopped and waxed the kitchen floor when the two boys came rushing in, covered in mud and promptly slipped on the floor and slid into the living room. Leaving twin trails of mud behind them. As he thought Salem's eyes focused on a funny glimmer by the back door. Suddenly, it burst open and two little boys came rushing in.
They were covered in mud and proceeded to slide across the floor. She knew instantly it was Salem and Aiden. She looked down and could see the mud on the floor, she could hear her boys laughing like mad. Her eyes darted to Salem. His eyes had an odd glow to them. It was soft, almost like a flashlight that's batteries were dying. She called out his name and instantly everything vanished. The mud, the boys and the laughter. Annie had heard of these things happening on the news and such, but never thought it would happen to her.
The man explained to Annie quickly what had happened. Poor woman, she barely understood what he was talking about. Slowly, she made her way to the back door to call her husband inside. Sitting all three of them down the man did his best to explain. Telling them he came as a representative of a special school. A school designed for kids like Salem. All of this new and sudden information made the boys head head hurt very bad. To the point where he became sick. Annie and Burke were worried. They didn't know what would happen to Salem. They had heard awful rumors of kids like this being taken away and never heard from again.
Giving the family a very kind smile, he assured them that Salem would be fine, but he needed to learn to control it. The teachers and staff at Hammel Institute would take good care of him. Burke protested at first, saying that Salem was only fourteen and needed to be home with them. Once again the man proceeded to explain that unchecked there was no telling if his power was dangerous or not. With that Salem agreed to the school. He didn't want to cause anyone any harm. It took a bit more convincing with Annie and Burke, but they finally agreed.
Now Salem has been in The Hammel Institute for three years. He mainly stays to himself and keeps quiet. Learning his power and trying not to make waves. Sure he has a friend or two, but he likes his solitude. Salem is seventeen now and has given up all hope of ever seeing his brother again.Roleplay ExampleBlood, so much blood. Flesh being torn from muscle and bone. Horrific monsters pulling someone apart, climbing out of the walls; the ceiling; the floor. A young boy stood in the corner crying, yet unmoving. The bed moved as though it were made of snakes. Dark shadows swirled from under the bed clawing at the boy. Dragging him under to whatever hell they came from. The boy screamed as his nails broke away against the floor as he was dragged. The boy screamed.
Screaming, pain, fear. The vision shot Salem straight up. His body drenched in sweat. It wasn't the worst night terror he had ever had, but it was definitely up there. Trying to stand proved almost impossible. His legs shook the moment his feet touched the cold floor. Grabbing the wall, he forced himself into his bathroom. Salem knew what would happen if he didn't.
Moments later he was on his knees in front of the toilet. Every time he had an extra bad vision he would get sick. It had become routine with him, bad dream, bathroom, up the rest of the night. His slender body trembled as he stood. He held the sink for a bit of support and washed his face and mouth. Standing straight he looked in the mirror.
A few dark bruises started to appear on his chest. Sighing he touched them gently, wincing a bit as a slight pain went through him. This too was familiar to him. Waking up with bruises from beating himself while he slept. Salem swallowed and just as he expected his throat was dry. Something else he had come to live with in his fourteen years of illness; screaming in his sleep.
Leaning down he started drinking from the sink. Long, slow sips, the cool water making his throat feel better. Salem wiped his mouth, stood and headed back to his room. His legs still weak, his body still hot and dripping he laid back on the bed and hoped that he hadn't woken anyone up. The headache he had would not be able to handle another screaming half drunk hunter, if it had been Aiden though he wouldn't have minded. Just in case he decided to go peek out his door to see if anyone was headed his way.
He once again slowly slipped off the bed and made his way to the door, not even remotely worried that he was wearing only pajama pants. Salem paused at the door though. He could have sworn he heard someone walking his way. What About You?Name: Salem or Jonnay or Zombie..i'll answer to anything really..lol
