With wavy brown hair and grey-blue eyes, she was their first child, and seemed flawless in their eyes upon birth. However, after barely a week they began to suspect something was wrong; she had little reaction to sight stimulus. After many tests and much worry, it was discovered that a simple lapse in prenatal development had left her blind. Not wanting to risk a surgery that may or may not have improved things, her parents raised her just as lovingly as she was.
As she grew, her blindness did little to stifle her spirit. She loved to explore, and caused her parents no little amount of grief and worry. She began to chafe at their constant protection and caution, and by the age of twelve had begun to act out. To her, blindness became an obstacle to be overcome, so she could be regarded as normal and "cool" by the fellow classmates of her private school, and she was determined to do just that. When it came to pranks, she was always in the thick of things. When it came to sneaking out to hang with friends, she was there.
Then, the headaches began. They started as simple irritations, but quickly grew to migraine level, causing her to miss school and leaving her unable to focus. Afraid she had developed a serious illness, her parents took her in for no little amount of medical testing. She was prescribed a powerful pain medication to help her deal with the headaches until the tests came back.
It was right around that time that she began noticing dramatic differences in her hearing. Everything seemed to be amplified a hundred times. Then, the mind pictures began, or so she called them for lack of anything better. She had little idea why she could suddenly locate things without her sight, and the very idea she could both fascinated and frightened her.
Not long after the visit to the hospital, the recruiter arrived at their house, claiming she had special powers and needed to go to some school to help deal with them. Of course, she was highly skeptical of all this at first, but when they presented her with results from one of her blood tests as grounds for their visit, she became more acceptant. With that acceptance, came the determination to master her power as she had mastered her blindness.
Since, she has been working hard at Hammel. Though she keeps good grades, she also has a definite ornery streak, and enjoys pranking as much as she did at her old school.
The development of her echolocation and enhanced hearing has lent much to her ability to get around, and just as much to not be found out when it came to keeping clear of trouble. However, all is not a bed of roses, as she still relies on pain medications to keep her migraines to manageable levels. Also, she finds crowds extremely head-ache aggravating and confusing.Behind the M A S K . . .Name: Raven

So helpful. Genesis fidgeted with the zipper of her bag as the taxi bumped along. That was how one of her friends had described the school she was headed to. Red bricked and pointy-roofed. Sounded more like a mental asylum. She'd felt a replica of one once, and her friends had at one point in time amused themselves by telling her "scary" tales about the abandoned asylum outside of town. Of course, that hadn't worked, because Genesis had promptly dared each of them to sneak into it with her one night.
She smirked to herself. They'd all chickened out except Mattias and Katie.
The taxi pulled to a stop and, assuming they had arrived, Genesis got out. As usual, the first step brought back a mental picture of the immediate area. Taxi car behind her, smattering of trees before her, a few people also before her. To help her in? Right.
She slammed the door, which caused her to flinch. She really needed to remember to do things more quietly. Then the taxi driver slammed the trunk shut. Genesis flinched again, then glared in his general direction before holding out her hands. "I'll take my suitcase," she stated, determined.
The driver paused, presumably unsure, then handed it over. With a curt, "Thank you", Genesis turned to face the people she'd noted earlier. Deep breath to steady herself, then, "Well?"
