Josh was pleased that Anthony was a talker, because that meant he had to do less work to carry the conversation.

"Indeed it does! I grew up in Manhattan, lived there for all my life until moving up here. I know that's a boring life story, but I wouldn't have moved at all if my parents hadn't needed help. Retirement communities in the City are distressingly expensive, so we looked into Burlington instead. One of the best decisions I've made in my life, moving up here. Pilot Ridge is a wonderful little town, don't you agree?"

“Manhattan?” he repeated with interest. That was pretty cool. Anthony had always wanted to go to New York, but the best he’d done was drive through there between here and his Aunt’s place down in Virginia. Though usually he just took a plane.

Anthony shrugged. “I don’t know. I mean, I don’t mind Pilot Ridge, it’s not that much better than my hometown.” Actually, it was quite a bit smaller. “I actually thought it’d be pretty cool to live in a big city like New York. But I guess if you’re looking for a quiet place to settle down, then PR isn’t that bad a place.” He wouldn’t mind staying himself if he had a good enough reason to stick around. Like say, his brother happened to manifest and go to Hammel.

"Don't get me wrong, I loved Manhattan." Josh replied as they arrived at the Velvet-tone. "There's never any lack of events going on, and you never know who you're going to meet. But Pilot Ridge's population is more varied than I expected from such a small town! I've met people from Wales and from South Africa and from Japan, that's more than I would have thought for a little place in Vermont."

Anthony laughed. “That’s true, huh? It’s really diverse here. I think the school, Hammel, might have a lot to do with it.” Anthony had spent nearly four years there, and every new year he was amazed at the incoming student population. Such a variety! “We don’t get that big of a diversity in Ohio. Or if we do, you have to hunt them down, because they pretty much like to keep to themselves.” But, of course, for what reason would a family like his have to hunt down non-American living in the middle class suburbs?

Anthony hopped forward as they approached the coffeehouse and held the door open for the counselor. “After you, sir!”
