People May Stop and Stare

[Lucy Serrano-Blaise]

In hindsight, Lucy would understand that getting drunk on campus with her best friends wasn't always a good idea. Especially when they let her wander off on her own. Because she was always going to wander to the same place. They just didn't know that yet.

It was depressing to turn up and find the door locked, really. It was weird that Penny wasn't around. Lucy couldn't really kick a door as much as she had in that moment - at least, she was sure she couldn't. But the more she did, the more she slowly realised it really was empty.

"Fiiiine." Lucy dragged, turning and glancing towards the door to leave again. She could always just go back to Sawyer. But instead, the inebriated Australian chose to lean against the back of the couch, arms folded. She wavered in her place for a time, glancing at the door every few seconds. It felt like she'd been there for ages.

Really, it'd been a few minutes.

But when the door handle finally started to shift, she raised her eyebrows, her eyes going wide. A grin caught her features and she pushed off, heading towards the door to catch it right when she opened. True to form, she pressed her hands gently to her counterpart's cheeks, leaning in and offering a significant kiss against a familiar mouth.

Except it wasn't familiar.

Her eyes opened as she quickly drew back and looked at who she was holding instead. This was definitely not her.... But that fact still didn't seem to kill whatever buzz she was working with.

Still drunk intoxicated from her pity party at the lake, Liv decided it was finally time to go back inside if she valued her life at all. Or her limbs. Or fingers which were a nice shade a purple and stung now as they tried to thaw. 

She pushed her door open, leaning against the wood for support as she entered. She would have stumbled had she not been caught by hands on her face, and lips on her lips. Ree- What? Her eyes went wide and her heart sunk into her vagina when her sudden hope transformed into sudden misery as she realized who was kissing. 

For a moment she didn't push away, for a split second she gave in even though she knew who it was and why this was most likely happening but the alcohol in her system wanted to not be lonely and in this brief moment someone actually was giving her something that she could later lie to herself and call affection. 

"Hey." Liv chuckled pushing away from her ready to see the disappointment Lucy would no doubt feel as she realized just how much Liv was not Penny. 

"Your lady not in?" Liv asked as she stumbled passed Lucy, tossing her bag onto the couch.

Lucy honestly seemed unaffected by the fact that she'd kissed this girl because it was an honest reaction. It wad an easy mistake to make, right? No harm, no foul and all that.

The greeting she offered in return, in tandem with her chuckle, was enough to draw a grin from the Australian. Her expression wasn't coloured with disappointment - she was elated by the fact that she wasn't slone in this stupid dorm any more.

Raising her arms, Lucy offered a grand shrug at her question. "Nope!" She replied, her intoxicating state of mind disapproving of her usual denial. Besides, this chick so clearly knew Lucy was caught up in her roommate. They were loud. They argued loud. They banged loud. "Dunno who the fuck she'd be with, but it ain't me." Which was irritating, obviously, but she brushed it off as she walked to follow Liv.

"Didn't I tell you I'd backtrack to all the steps we skipped?" She raised her eyebrows at her own question, throwing her head back with a sharp laugh.

Liv wiped her lips in reaction as the sobering thought that she just got kissed by a girl entered her mind. Well that was a first. She almost wanted to sing a katy perry song but the alcohol was wearing off quicker than she'd like. She reached into her bag pulling out the bottle of Jack "She'll be back, she always is." She said as she took a big swig. 

"I guess you did mention that." She said glancing over at the Australian before handing her the bottle not even asking if she'd want some. Of course she did. She could smell the alcohol on her already and what better but to drink when you were already drunk? 

She contemplated going into her room. Lucy wasn't her friend she was Penny's. Lucy wasn't there to see Liv or see if she was ok or whatever she was there to see if Penny was home because she cared about her. 

Liv eyed the bottle deciding she wanted it back.

Lucy raised her eyebrows when she watched what this girl dragged out of her bag. Her grin broadened immediately when her eyes glanced over the bottle's label, and she ran her fingers across her jaw. Well, damn. Who'd have guessed that'd be her choice? "Ah, true. Nearly bed time." She breathed a laugh at that.

"Oh yeah, I never forget what I say. Gotta keep any and all promises, y'know?" Lucy immediately reached for the bottle as it was handed to her, appreciating the unspoken exchange she offered. Amidst the silence, she took a drink. It burned as it always did, but it wasn't the Aussie's first encounter with hardened alcohol, and it sure as hell wasn't going to be her last.

Still, her nose crinkled on instinct, and she looked at the way this girl eyed what she now had.

"Aye, bae?" She asked instead, drawing the bottle close to her chest as she took a half step back. Grinning. Because she was always grinning, "You look like shit. How come?"

A flush crossed Liv's face as the Australian continued to make suggestions. "You're a bit drunk, huh?" She winked "Sorry lush but I don't go for girls." She was feeling bolder today but not that bold.

Still, she wanted the bottle back and Lucy was just drawing it closer into her chest instead of passing it like any other good guest. But it was Lucy after all her her guest skills and manners were equivalent of Liv's mother's poodle Clancy. Actually, Clancy was definitely better trained than Lucy.

"Nothing." She insisted as she reached for the bottle. If Lucy didn't know about Reece leaving she didn't want to be the one to tell her. Granted she probably did, hell Lucy probably knew about Valentines day and what a joke of a human Liv was by now. 

"Do you mind?" She held out her hand "You're terrible at sharing."

Lucy immediately waved a hand in her direction, laughing to herself. As if this girl could call anyone drunk anyway. But it was the latter of her statements that flagged the ink manipulator's interest. "You just ain't met the right broad for you, sweet love. Nothing's ever 100%." She explained, a firm believer in always offering at least a two-percent margain for error.

"Don't you know nothing never means nothing?" She asked, glancing at the bottle she held as she took another step, "Or are all the bitches in this dorm dumb to generic bloody facts about human bloody behaviour?"

Clearly, she knew nothing about Reece. If she had, she certainly wouldn't have been able to keep her mouth shut about it. Then again, she'd managed to keep quiet about the fact that she'd seen half this dorm's inhabitants naked.

"You fucking suck at sharing!" Lucy retorted, oddly sharply. Though it wasn't odd for her. "You share and I'll share. What's up your ass tonight?"

"All the bitches in this place actually have a right to be here." She spat back at the intruding Australian who was quickly overstepping her boundaries. "And no. I haven't met the right broad because the right broad doesn't exist. Not for me." She was straight, she was sure of that. Until now she hadn't even thought of kissing a girl.... until now. But that didn't matter because it was her emotions talking, and the alcohol, and the gut wrenching loneliness as she watched all her friends skip off into the sunset happy with their significant others practically forgetting about her existence. 

"I suck at sharing." She repeated with a laugh as she tightened her arms across her chest. Liv shook her head.  "You share something. If you're so good at sharing maybe you should start." 

"Plus, It's nothing. It's absolutely nothing worth talking about." Because she wasn't worth talking about. If she wasn't good enough to say goodbye to, he wasn't worth talking about to other people. He didn't deserve her thoughts, he didn't deserve her tears, he deserved to not have existed in the first place.

Lucy simply replied with a broad grin. It was funny to her, when this girl threw in the occasional swear. Given Lucy's penchant for swearing, she found the way Olivia swore to be somewhat endearing.

"Nuh!" Lucy shouted the single word, which was really not a word at all, when Liv told her to share. She squeezed the bottle in the nook of her arm once more, "I asked first. Maybe I'll talk if you talk, aye?" She raised her eyebrows, drawing the bottle away and taking a purposeful swig. If she wasn't careful, the Australian would down a major percentage of her alcohol to prove a point.

"And besides, I'm not the one who's clearly drunk as fuck because she's sad as fuck. So I'll give you your shit back if you give me whatever story's got your shit in a fucking knot." She offered a lazy smirk, because even when she was trying to be serious, she was still drunk. And everything was still a blur.

Liv shook her head sending her hair flying in all directions. She wasn't surprised that Lucy resisted, she didn't expect her do to anything less. After all if she'd learned anything it was that she wasn't so unique in her conquest to stay as emotionally secure and guarded as possible... it turned out she shared that trait with most of her peers.

"I say Fuck all the time." She said, the word sounding completely foreign in her mouth. "I curse. I can say fuck, c**t, shit, balls, crap, bitchezzz." She held out the z. "What do you think I am some goody two shoes?" She smiled, she knew that was probably exactly what she thought considering Liv really was and until now she was totally content with that. SHe was happy following rules and being a model student and all that but in the past few months she realized she didn't care anymore. She didn't care because it didn't matter because those weren't her ambitions anyway. 

Her smile fell as she realized Lucy was still cradling the booze. "If you don't know what's wrong with me then you haven't been paying attention." She finally said looking up at Lucy.

Lucy pressed her lips into a hardened line - anything to stop herself from laughing to intensely as Liv dropped a string of colourful swear words on impulse. Really, she failed after a second, and started losing her mind in a fit of laughter. "Course I do. Look at you, y'little cutie with your big swears and shit!" She replied, her naturally higher tone of voice raising slightly towards the end.

Still, Lucy took a breath. A small, contemplative moment. She furrowed her eyebrows, closing her eyes tightly for a moment before opening them and staring back at her. "The wicked short gorgeous fella with the big brown eyes and the giant chin?" Lucy asked, because evidently, his name was escaping her. And that'd be right - it totally was. "The fuck'd he do now?"

"Little cutie." She rolled her eyes. That was half the damn problem she was cute and not hot or beautiful or sexy or anything that warranted treating her as anything other than some dumb kid sister.

"Yeah, him." She confirmed not really interested in telling her the details of the situation. "He's an asshole. The rest doesn't matter. He's probably dead somewhere in england or wherever the other fucking meta schools are in the world." She really couldn't even remember them at this point. She knew Flynn ran off to one. Maybe they were fucking now wouldn't that be something? She motioned for the alcohol. "Your turn my love."

The roll of her eyes dragged a snarky laugh from Lucy. "Not what you wanted to hear?" She asked, her curiosity flagged. Her interest, raising.

Him. Lucy gave a definitive nod. She listened to everything said about the guy - the guy Lucy honestly got along with from the moment she met him. Hell, when she'd just met him, they were conspiring about a foursome for the hell of it five minutes later. "Fucking Swedishland." Lucy pointed out, raising her eyebrows and offering another nod. She knew it as a fact. "Nearly went there, too. Back in the day. Fucking 'Stralia." Even after all these years, she was still bitter about the move. And the initial choice.

"Alright," Lucy started, breaching the distance between them and handing her the bottle again. Her admission deserved it, "Whacha wanna know, bae?"

The roll of her eyes dragged a snarky laugh from Lucy. "Not what you wanted to hear?" She asked, her curiosity flagged. Her interest, raising.

"Not particularly." She affirmed. "Right. There." She nodded her head, that's where he was, not England, that was Hogwarts which honestly sometimes Liv had a hard time believing didn't exist considering where they went to school. There were a lot of hidden things about the world and they were largely one of them. Made her curious about other possibilities. "He just left without a word..." She chuckled shaking her head. The booze gave her loose lips the moment she left her guard down slightly. "Be a good night for those plates." She mused before looking at the Australian who was actually open to opening up.

A sly smile made it's way across her lips "Hmm..." She leaned her head against the wall. "What... no." She tapped her nose as she thought. She wanted to know about her and Penelope. She wanted to know what they were and why she liked her. But that wasn't fair. "Ever worry? About not being good enough?" She still meant it in the romantic sense but at least that kept her roommate out of it by name.

"Well, isn't he a bit of a fucking prick then?" Lucy asked, but the question wasn't really a question at all. And her resentment towards him showed instantly in the shift in her tone of voice. Leaving. Lucy Serrano had always found difficulty in the concept. She felt her eyes twitch to narrow for a mere moment when her mentality dragged her back to the morning she woke up alone. Without her British counterpart. Without a word. "Plates?" She asked, snapping herself back.

Leaning forward, Lucy pressed her forearm to the wall right beside Liv. Before the girl registered Lucy was holding the bottle towards her, she reeled it back in. The question was simple. Smart. In a better mindset, she would have played it off perfectly.

"Course." The Australian replied, glancing back at her counterpart's roommate before taking a purposeful drink. It felt imperative; "Cause I'm me."
