Power(s): Tactile anesthesia/Dream walking - Candence can put creatures (people and animals) to sleep by touching them, skin on skin. As she is newly manifested, she has no control over it as of yet, therefore sometimes inadvertently puts people to sleep if they touch her-- especially if she is distressed. When distressed (and at times even when not), she also sometimes puts herself to sleep unintentionally. Because of these two issues, she wears gloves and turtlenecks/hoodies to help prevent skin-on-skin contact.

She can also enter peoples' dreams, though not  influence them. This power also is mostly uncontrollable, though with training she'll be able to pick what dreams she does and doesn't want to be a part of, and how long she is in them. If a dream is pulling at her, and there are no other available dreams to resort to, she cannot yet resist being pulled in. This, of course, lends to a very low quality of sleep, so she finds herself having to rely on quantity of sleep rather than the quality, at the moment.

Candence was born the youngest into a loving, if high expectation, family. Upon birth, she had two siblings: a four-year-old brother (Emrys), and a six-year-old sister (Lanae). She wasn't naturally the most competitive person, but gradually grew to be so. Her parents had her, as well as her sister, in dance and gymnastics as soon as they were old enough, and she strived to do as well as her big sister, who was extremely talented as well as having a six year head start.

As time went on, she began to find herself more interested in martial arts than dance and gymnastics, but it was a field her parents didn't encourage, mostly because of the greater risk of being badly injured. However, determination was something she'd been born with, and it was not something she lost over time. After much debate (a skill she thrived in), she convinced her parents to let her take a few classes, though she stayed in gymnastics to please them.

Where her sister was flirtatious, life of the party, and a social butterfly, Candence was opinionated, always right, and preferred to debate things rather than laugh at and agree with everything. Therefore, the two of them ran with very different crowds, and had no little amount of friction, when her sister was around anyway.

Then, when Candence was eleven, the Event happened. Her sister had come home after a big win, and getting into the next level of, a dance competition. Late that night the two were talking in Lanae's room, catching up on each others' lives, one of the few times they weren't arguing. A masked man entered the room with a gun, threatening not only their lives, but the lives of the rest of their family if they didn't come quietly. In shock at the suddenness of it, they complied, were bound, gagged, blindfolded, and spirited away.

The following days were a nightmare. In the course of them, Candence's sister was badly injured, a process which Candence was forced to watch. She quickly went into shock, losing track of time, and of her surroundings, though she caught snatches threats made by the kidnapper, and later the policemen's rescue. Though she sustained only minor physical injuries, she was badly scarred psychologically. She blamed herself for her sister being permanently handicapped, and even became convinced her parents wished she had been the one to be handicapped, rather than her sister. With this fear in mind, she threw herself into the competitive sports her parents so highly valued, determined not to lose their love. Over time, she became a habitual workaholic, it quickly growing into a coping mechanism.

With consistent therapy, she has managed to become more or less functional, despite chronic exhaustion from still overworking herself. She still has occasional flashbacks and nightmares, and has been diagnosed with PTSD, though improved over the last three years. Her personality, though still predominately the same, has shifted somewhat. Her determination and stubborn streak have become even stronger, and if she is convinced of something, it is nigh on impossible to convince her otherwise. She has also become much too good at play-acting, pretending to be perfectly all right around people, especially family and any therapists or counselors she might be seeing. Any concern is met first with first an insistence that she is fine, then a stormy defiance.

Towards the end of her thirteenth year, her power manifested itself. She began falling asleep unintentionally and at bad times (for example, in the middle of class), putting other people to sleep if they touched her (causing her to actively avoid physical affection), and experiencing strange dreams, very unlike her own usual nightmares. It didn't take long, just a few days in fact, for a recruiter to show up at their house, and Candence honestly wasn't surprised to see them. What did surprise her was to learn that her “strange dreams” were actually her entering other peoples' dreams. With this realization came excitement; if she could enter the dreams of others, then she wouldn't have to suffer through her own nightmares as much. The power that at first just seemed another burden to carry, though still cause for worry, could also be a means of escape.

So, it is with this anticipation that she turns her path toward Hammel. Still a workaholic, and quite skilled in martial arts and gymnastics, she intends to try to join the dance team. She is, however, both excited and unenthused about living close to her brother again. Though she loves Emrys, she's still afraid to be too close to people, afraid she will hurt them.

Candence looks quite a lot like her brother, though a lot thinner boned and smaller framed. She has the same brown hair though, and only slightly darker eyes.
