The BasicsName: Persephone Lynn Hobbes
Nicknames: Percie, Hobbes
Age: 35
Orientation: Bi-sexual
Desired Rank/Job: Local/Private Detective
Powers: Memory Viewing/Editing
Percie can view the memories of any person through physical contact or by maintain eye contact. Physical contact is more reliable but harder to obtain in her line of work whereas eye contact takes longer and often causes her to lose focus of her immediate surroundings. She must maintain eye or physical contact throughout the viewing/editing processes. Loss of either of these things results in her surfacing. She may only edit the memories that she shares with others. Editing may include putting something in, taking something out or suggestions such as “You were standing under a tree, not next to the fountain”.
Drawbacks include: multiple memories of the same event that eventually affect her own understanding of the matter, often leading people to assume that she’s a bit of an airhead. She may also get lost in the memories of other’s while she’s viewing them leaving her dizzy and disoriented upon “surfacing”. She suffers migraines of various degrees, though the more serious ones are after interrogation sessions or additional training. In addition to the migraines, Percie also requires sleep as she is immensely tired after these activities. It’s not unusual for her to pass out in bed for several hours following either a viewing, editing or both.
Play By: Jennifer ConnellyThe DetailsHair Color: Brown
Eye Color: Light Green
Any Piercings? Ears - twice
Any Tattoos? Vintage flowers on her left shoulder and upper arm
Vintage flowers on her right shoulder and upper arm
Any Scars? Extensive scarring around her left shoulder from a bullet wound and the surgery required to replace her shoulder afterwards. Her tattoo disguises some of it.
General Appearance: Persephone is tall at an even 6’ and often has no trouble using that height to her advantage to intimidate people. She’s lean with an average build, with very little extra weight around her hips and thighs. She works out on a regular basis and possesses a black belt in karate. Her posture is mostly straight but she has a tendency to bend over her work and hunch her shoulders when she’s very involved with something. Her style changes depending on what she’s doing. She prefers a more casual style when she works but when she’s scheduled to meet a client she dresses much more professionally.
Her hair is starting to grey at the roots so she pays to have it cut, styled and dyed at the salon whenever necessary because she can afford to do so. She takes incredibly good care of her hands as well, sitting for manicures every month because it’s important to her that every part of her looks professional. She likes wearing jewelry but if there’s the possibility of confrontation with someone she might be tailing or investigating she will leave it behind and pull her hair up so that they don’t have anything to potentially grab. She has two tattoos that she doesn’t show in a professional setting or when she’s in close proximity to a target since it could be used as an identifier later. When out with her friends, or off a case she shows them all she likes.
Personality:Percie Hobbes is the kind of woman who is incredibly efficient and responsible at work only to have her home life be a dizzying disarray of dusty appliances and three week old dishes. She doesn’t entertain much, and hasn’t had a significant other to bring home in years, both of which would normally motivate her to at least dust. Despite this lack of domesticity, Percie is adamant about at least one thing: drink coasters. No matter what she drinks or where she sets it, there are drink coasters nearby for her cup to rest on. She has several in the office as well and gets quite testy if they aren’t used, even going so far as to “casually” (or not so as the case often is) put someone’s cup on one during the conversation.
At her very core, Percie is a pleasant, cheerful woman with the driving need to help others. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends and genuinely likes what she does. She’s curious and intuitive and often uses these traits to help her with her work, without having to use her powers. She’s a fan of “fair play” as it were and carries around a tremendous amount of guilt for using her powers even though there was no alternative at the time. It’s difficult for her to forgive herself for anything she deems “wrong” and has been known to isolate herself for weeks at a time as punishment. Luckily, she doesn’t hold these types of grudges for other people but her patience isn’t unlimited. She doesn’t have an explosive temper but when she does finally “lose it”, she reveals that she is, in fact, the bad cop when she needs to be. She doesn’t relish making grown men weep but she doesn’t pull punches when it comes to doing her job. Typically an honest person, she can often be blunt in terms of what she wants and expects from others, including her clients.
She hates silence and overworks herself to the point where she forgets to eat. The upside to this is that she makes a lot of money in a short amount of time and her services do no come cheap. The downside is that since she likes what she does, she doesn’t have much incentive to slack off her workload. Due to this little caveat she often doesn’t have anything to talk about other than her work and…knitting. The one hobby that Percie does possess is the knitting of small, round coasters that she sells in her shop and at local craft fairs for extra cash. She hasn’t the patience for anything else and the coasters usually come in handy. Other facts include that Percie is ambidextrous and a good driver. She loves racing games in arcades and often speeds around the back roads when she has to travel for work. She likes to spoil herself and gets irritated when people comment about it. She likes looking presentable for clients and since she represents her business and abilities it’s important to her to look the part of a competent business woman.Your Vices

Persephone Lynn Hobbes was born to a happily married couple and an older brother (who had REALLY wanted a little brother) one sunny day in November. Six years later both she and her older brother welcomed a new little sister (they had both really wanted a little brother) to complete their family of five. Martha and Douglas weren’t necessarily wealthy but they were good at saving money and recycling things. Nothing was ever very “new” in their house but everything worked and it was cozy. The Hobbes children grew up to appreciate what they had and to first try and fix something before throwing it away. Percie, personally was always gluing things back together or stitching her doll clothes when they were worn out.
When Percie was seven, her family found out (via spastic appliances) that her brother Theseus was a technopath and he began attending The Hammel Institute. Less than a year later the family moved to Pilot Ridge to be all together again and Percie began attending the local elementary school. She was always getting into trouble, being the curious, matter-of-fact girl that she was and often had to endure lectures from her parents about not wandering off, getting into fights, not being so honest with some people and not talking to strangers. While she let up on most of these she was still a bit of a wild child.
Four years later, Percie Hobbes was dragged to the principal’s office yelling her just turned twelve-year-old lungs out that she was not a liar and that she had seen the principal’s daughter stealing someone’s lunch. When the principal asked how she knew this Percie stubbornly insisted that she had seen it with her own two eyes and again when she had confronted the other girl, she’d seen it in her head when they’d been fighting. The principal seemed quite unwilling to believe her story despite her insistence that it was the truth. Percie claims to this day it was because she had clearly won their physical altercation. When Martha came to get Percie from school an hour later for the start of her week’s suspension for lying and fighting, she listened to how upset her daughter was. Acting on her motherly intuition, Martha made her way immediately to Hammel and asked, hesitantly if anyone was available to see if Percie might be some sort of psychic. Already having a student enrolled in the school, it wasn’t a gigantic leap for Martha to assume that more than one of her children was “gifted” as she chose to see it.
Percie would learn that day that she was not “psychic” but that she could view (and later edit) the memories of others, excepting those of course who’s strong mental barriers proved too strong to try and crack. Once it was confirmed that Percie was a meta-human, Martha and Douglas withdrew her from the local elementary school the next day, to enroll her at Hammel. It was really strange and difficult for her to transition at such a strange point in the school year, especially over the course of two days but she managed. Her run in with such injustice gave her a dream that she never forgot, she aspired to be a police detective and help obtain justice for others. This stayed with her throughout school as she researched what it would take to join the police force. She was active in sports to keep in shape, kept her grades as high as possible and constantly spoke about her dream with the friends her father had made at the local police department. She still had fun of course and made lots of friends. She was always somewhere in a crowd, laughing and telling jokes.
Her relationship with her siblings was as strong as ever. Theseus was patient and willing to play the part of protective older brother when necessary and Hestia was simply glad not be caught up in her sibling’s “crazy” adventures. Despite being slightly jealous of the fact that her siblings could do such amazing things, the setbacks the older two siblings suffered on a regular basis was enough to convince her that she was better off being “normal”. Still, young Hestia delighted in pushing her brother unexpectedly into appliances and confusing Percie about their childhood. (At that point Percie had discovered one of the most frustrating things about her editing capability…the fact that duplicate memories were formed when she mucked around in someone’s head). For this reason Percie tries, very, very hard to avoid editing when possible.
Though she was ready to graduate academically at eighteen, her training wasn’t yet complete and Percie had to attend the nearby community college before her ability was under control enough for her to successfully graduate from Hammel and apply to join the police force in nearby Burlington. Once she had gone through the academy and sworn in as a regular officer, Persephone began pursuing her secondary goal, reaching the rank of detective. She took on extra work when able, studied nightly for the detective’s exam and shamelessly indulged in crime shows just to point out what was wrong and help her studying. She furthered her education beyond her community college experience and obtained a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a minor in the specialized area of cyber fraud.
She finally passed her exam and hired onto an outside department by the time she was twenty-seven. She worked hard, having finally obtained her dream. She loved her job, she loved her work, she loved the people she worked with. She was quick and intuitive to things and if all else failed, she had her powers. Of course, the few times that required she use them to extract the information she wanted have left her with regrets despite how justified the action might have been at the time due to uncooperative witnesses and time running out. Her reputation for being a good interrogator was due in part to this power but she was always so embarrassed that she tried to downplay it as much as possible. It helped a little that she often took sick days after “cracking” large cases due to “stress”. Usually she spent the day in bed with raging migraines. As far as she is aware, no one knew that she was a meta-human. If they did manage to figure it out they never approached her about it and she likes to think that no news is good news in this regards.
When she was thirty-two she and her partner were finishing up a following questioning on a missing person’s case when a call came out for back up for a bank robbery and hostage situation. Being close to the scene, they went to provide backup as necessary. That day ended with a dead gunman, a group of terrified but grateful hostages and Percie on a surgery table having her shattered left shoulder repaired. Percie had to ask her partner what happened later and view the memory with him (it was convenient that he wanted to hold her hand for support) to get a better grasp on things. Percie remembered providing some cover for the hostage negotiator when a backfiring car a block away spooked the gunman into firing at the police. Percie had barely returned fire when she’d been struck by one of the bullets and knocked to the ground. The pain had been so intense she’d blacked out just before timely paramedics had darted in to grab her and drag her away.
Percie worked hard at physical therapy, her goal one of simplicity. Though she was ambidextrous, she needed her left arm to be fully functional in order to feel whole again. At six weeks she was cleared to drive again, but not for active police duty. This meant lots of desk work for a woman much more inclined to travel and take a far more active role in her work than simply filling out form, after form, after form. She began to consider alternatives to her dream and decided that she would go into business for herself. Though her parents had never been wealthy people, they had contacts and so did Percie thanks to her job. She was able to purchase a rather plain building back in Pilot Ridge where she could be closer to her parents and away from the hustle and bustle of the bigger city. As she worked to transition her life from full time police detective to self-employed private investigator she brushed up on what she would need to do to make it happen. She had quite a bit in savings that helped her buy licenses and pay fees before she was finally able to hand in her official resignation.
Almost a year to the day later, her arm mostly back to normal, new tattoo ink on both shoulders, Persephone Hobbes opened the doors of her business and sat down to rid the world of both cyber and injury fraud, find missing people, document cheating spouses and….knit drink coasters. She’s accepts cases mainly from Burlington since Pilot Ridge is too inactive to pay the majority of her bills but doesn’t travel much further for business. She has occasionally taken on larger workloads from other, larger companies out of town since she was referred to them but prefers to keep herself localized in order to better serve her community. Still, running a case for a large, outside company usually means a bigger commission that she can squirrel away for later so she doesn’t turn them down…ever.
