Power(s): Mind Control- Cal is able to influence other peoples' minds. At its strongest, her power cannot directly force anyone to do something against their will, relying more on mental “nudges” and suggestion, which she can be quite good at times. She does, however, also at times have trouble separating honest, innocent suggestions from influential suggestions, especially if she is excited or passionate about something, so at times finds herself unintentionally influencing people. She accomplishes her power mostly through words, but finds it stronger when keeping eye contact as well. To maintain influence, the target must not go more than about 28 yards, otherwise she cannot maintain influence. Within that distance, she can't keep up an influence longer than ten minutes. Side-effects of this are headaches, even when she isn't actually using the power, as well as drowsiness, and itchy eyes and throat, depending on the extent of use.
With more training--
She would be able to influence people against their will-- how much would depend on the other person's strength of will, and how much the suggestion goes against their nature. For example, she would not be able to convince a shy, timid, very moral person to go on a murder rampage or the like. She would not be able to overbear anyone's will to the point of death, or change their core values. Her power over someone influenced would be connected directly with her proximity to the one influenced-- the closer they are, the stronger hold she can keep on them. Once they were about 100 yards from her, she could no longer keep the influence. No matter what the distance, she wouldn't be able to keep control of them for more than two hours, two hours being under the best circumstances (close proximity and weak willed target).
Play By: Bella ThorneLet it F L O W . . .Callie was born on April 9th, 1997, in sunny California, to a young couple and a brother just a couple years older than herself. She is a natural red-head, in a family of red-heads, with dark brown eyes, a faint smattering of freckles, and a constant smile.
As a baby she was always babbling and laughing, and learned to both walk and talk at an early age. As soon as she found her feet, she was following everyone around. People were her thing, and she hated to be separated from them. When she started preschool, she quickly stole the hearts of her teachers, and when she moved on to elementary school she gained a whole troop of friends. Everyone she talked to was her friend, in her mind, and she was determined to have as many friends as possible. From smuggling cookies out of her house to her bus driver, to snagging every new kid who entered her sights, to hugging anyone who crossed her path, she did her best to make buddies of everyone.
It was this trait, however good a trait it was, that laid her open to danger. When she was eight, a friend's father began showering her with gifts, she immediately interpreted this as a sign of friendship. Her parents were fairly loose in their parenting, and often allowed her to have sleepovers with friends, and so when this friend extended the offer of a sleepover, it was nothing new, or so they thought.
Needless to say, that night was far from good, but with the next day came no recollection of what had happened. Callie went to school with her friend, and returned home that night as usual. However, her parents did notice a change in her behavior. Though she was still her bubbly, friendly self, she was more on edge, and was stiff when it came to physical affection from her father or brother. Assuming it was just a phase, her parents brushed it off.
So, the situation at school continued. Though she wasn't sure why, Callie began dreading when her friend's father showed up, bringing gifts for both of them. After a few months, and two more sleepovers, she still had no lucid memory of why she didn't like the man, but she began actively avoiding him; ensuring she wasn't around when he arrived to drop off or pick up his daughter. This was partly a reaction of her own, but also the encouragement from another friend, by the name of Lacey, who helped her know when and where to hide. Added to this, she began having nightmares. At first, she sought comfort from her parents when woken by the dreams, but as time went on, another girl, Emily, began presenting herself when the nightmares came. Callie decided Emily was a guardian angel, and at Emily's request, kept her a secret from her parents.
Teachers began to pick up on the situation not long after Callie began her avoidance. As is protocol, the situation was reported to social services, and one of Callie's teachers also arranged a meeting with her parents to express the concern. When questioned later, Callie still insisted that nothing had happened. However, the situation was suspicious enough that action was taken to ensure her safety. Her mother began picking Callie up and dropping her off at school herself, and teachers helped to keep Callie clear of the suspicious man. However, Callie protested all this, insisting that her friend, Lacey, was helping her to stay safe, and that everything was fine. All the same, her parents and teachers insisted, and she had no choice but to go along with it. Things seemed to improve with this change.
It wasn't until she was eleven that things began to show signs of not being all fine again. Callie still talked about her friend Lacey, a girl who her parents had never met. Her teachers and other friends were realizing they had never met Lacey either. Though most of her friends played along, the adults began taking action again. It became clear very fast that Lacey wasn't real, and Callie was getting past the age of pretending imaginary friends were real. Her parents had her evaluated by more than one psychologist, and each one of them agreed: Callie had definite signs of Disassociative Personality Disorder. She started therapy, and her parents monitored her closely.
After two years of this, making Callie thirteen, though her “friends” hadn't left, she maintained a stability. Neither of her separate personalities were damaging-- Lacey being the suspicious, streetsmart one, and Emily being the quiet comforter-- so it seemed best to simply monitor the situation and keep up on therapy rather than risk medication
However, there was one more situation to overcome: power manifestation, which triggered Cal's dormant personality, the one that had hidden away the memories of the sleepovers. The manifestation came at school, when she was thirteen, and made for a confusing day. She'd had a headache since she woke up, which she brushed off, as she did most things like that. But then throughout the day, when she tried to convince people of things, which happened a lot in the course of her chatter, more than once she had people agree with her altogether too quickly. By the time her mom picked her up that afternoon, she was exhausted, and complaining about her eyes and throat, which were itching ridiculously. Assuming she was sick, Cal's mother put her to bed and had her skip school the next day.
During the course of the next day, cooped up in her room “sick”, a girl showed up, one who Cal quickly decided she didn't like. Partially because the new girl, Jamie, teased her unrelentingly for being “sick”, insisting that she wasn't really sick. Jamie insisted that Cal was “special” now, and needed to get up, go out, and practice. The other reason Cal didn't like the newcomer, was that with her came memories of the sleepovers. Thoroughly terrified at the whole situation, Cal screamed for her mom, and began talking wildly about the new arrival, distressed to the extent that, with her new power, she actually almost convinced her mother that Jamie was real. Her mother was appropriately freaked out, and hauled her directly into the doctor.
Tests were done, and after barely two days, a recruiter showed up to help. As regarding going to Hammel, Cal was quite intrigued, and not a little excited, though her excitement was tempered with confusion as her personalities had differing opinions on the situation. Jamie was thrilled, though not for the same reasons as Cal, and Lacey was convinced it was a trap. Emily was the only one who stayed quiet, providing support more than anything.
The time at Hammel was rough at first. Jamie was not nearly as passive a personality as the other two, and many times tried to take command-- especially when it came to power practice. This made learning extremely slow and tedious. Different medications were attempted, along with continued therapy, but the medications either made Cal sick, or caused her to make herself sick, because despite her dislike of Jamie, she didn't like being without her “guardian angel”, Emily. Therefore, therapy became the main line of defense.
Now, about four years later, Callie has managed to gain a better control of her personalities, as well of her power, though she is still behind because of the rocky start. She has maintained a mostly cheerful air through this, and is still known for being one of the more friendly, bubblier people one will meet. However, she definitely has her bad days, on which she suffers from mood swings, partly signs of her other selves growing restless, and also partly due to her headaches, which never help when she's already stressed.Behind the M A S K . . .Name: Raven
