Eye Color: Hazel
Any Piercings? None
Any Tattoos? None
Any Scars? A few scrapes and cuts here and there
General Appearance:
Kunikpok's appearance hints at his heritage. He has strong features - sharp cheekbones, a sturdy jaw, and almond-shaped eyes that are a somewhat peculiar shade of orange-hazel. His hair is dark brown and usually kept cropped, although if he gets lazy sometimes he'll go for a while without cutting it, and it'll get longer and disheveled. His skin is a deep tawny color, and gets darker during the warmer months. He has a few scars here and there, but nothing overly visible; he is bare of any tattoos or piercings.
He has a very broad, strong build to go with his facial features. Standing about 6'2, he's quite intimidating on first appearances - his lifestyle has given him a generous muscle mass, especially around the arms and chest. He tends to either wear layers - during the color months - or tanktops and shorts during the hot months, because he likes to keep warm, but he roasts easily when it's warm out.
Personality:
Kuni is a gentle soul. Despite his somewhat intimidating front, he's nothing like someone might expect. Having grown up in a very small, tight-knit community where sharing and protecting each other in order to survive was the way to live, he developed a strong selfless and helpful nature from an early age. He's very protective of those he cares about - he has a particular soft spot for girls that remind him of his little sister. If anyone threatens someone he cares about, he has the potential to turn into a momma bear and scare off whatever the threat is.
He's also somewhat simple-minded, though not particularly dumb; he just doesn't see a lot of reason to study all that hard and push himself to get good grades. He gets enough to pass, and that's enough. His life consisted of passed-down skills and cultural traditions that didn't require a strenuous education; it's been a hard change to adjust to. Kuni can sometimes be seen as slow, because he likes to take time to think things over and soak in moments one at a time before moving on to the next thing. He hardly ever feels any need to rush.
Because of his nature, he's also pretty gullible and easily prone to falling for tricks. Kuni's good at following directions, and is better at listening to the instructions of others rather than leading something himself. He's easily emotional, though he doesn't like to show it - he cries over sad movies and books and anything particularly heartwarming in life. It's just how he is.Your VicesLikes:

Any Other Important People:His grandparentsHistory
Kuni was born in the very small Inupiaq village of Point Hope, Alaska, into a simple, content family who survived on the cultural traditions of the Tikiġaġmiut people. As one of the oldest native tribes in North America, one of the tribe's main modes of survival is whale hunting, along with caribou and seal. Kuni learned how to hunt and provide for his family at an early age by his father and grandfathers; as their son, he would be expected to be able to provide for the family once his elders could no longer hunt themselves. He attended Tikigaq School along with learning these means of survival, so he did receive an education, but his life was devoted to his people and being able to support those he cared about.
When he was eight, his parents had another child, his sister Kesuk. He loved the sweet little girl from the moment she was born, and spent a good portion of his later childhood taking care of her with their mother and grandmother. Their family was very close, and also close with those that lived near. One person's success was everyone's success - and Kuni loved that way of life.
He expected to hardly ever leave his small village apart from hunting trips and any necessary (and fortunately rare) emergencies that required someone to be taken to the nearest physician nearly 180 miles away. It wasn't a particularly easy life, but he enjoyed it.
On one particular whale hunting trip, however, that was going to change. Kuni was in a kayak by himself, with his father and some other men from the village carefully tracking down a bowhead whale. Being only fourteen, he kept close to the older and more experienced hunters in case anything went awry. And, well, something did. The bowhead whale seemed to figure out what was going on and, before anyone really knew what was happening, the creature was gone and in its wake, a large swell that toppled a few kayaks, including Kuni's.
As soon as he hit the water, the air seemed to freeze in his lungs. It was so cold! He'd fallen into the sea before, so it wasn't an entirely new feeling, but it was still enough to cause him to panic. It wasn't uncommon for men to drown, and he'd lost track of which way was up when his kayak flipped. Heart hammering, he clawed towards what he hoped was the surface, but when he wasn't met with that relieving punch of cold air, the panic set in even more.
That was when he felt it start to happen. His bones started to ache, and his chest and shoulders felt like they were going to burst. With a horrendous, agonizing pain, Kuni's body expanded into a mass thousands of times his normal weight, shifting into that of a small (but still gigantic) blue whale. He remembers little of what happened after - only that he was no longer cold, the people splashing at the surface of the water seemed tiny, and he craved a large meal of shrimp.
Fortunately, the other hunters were too stunned with the sudden appearance of such a gigantic whale to try slaughtering him; he only retained the form for a half-minute or so before he shrunk with more pain, but thankfully on the surface where his stunned friends and family tried to wrap their minds around what had just happened. They hadn't had a meta manifest in Point Hope in ages - there were few that recalled they existed.
Due to the location of where he lived, it took the recruiters over a week to appear and explain to Kuni and his family what had happened. It was a lot to take in, and he was still stunned when he was taken away to go to Hammel, away from his family and the life he had lived in his tribe. He's since then grown more used to the average teenage life at the school, although he still retains many traits he developed while growing up that likely will never change. He's going to have to stay an extra year or two longer in order to catch up on his education along with developing stronger control over his ability, as it's hard to train when the nearest body of salt water is some distance away.Roleplay Example<3What About You?Name: Pollo
