I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Mathis.)

It had been a while since Cam had gone out. He had to get used to being back at Hammel, settle in, say hi to everyone, and help Sam with his World History though that was proving to be a hard pill to swallow. But now that that was all checked off his to-do list, Cam thought it was high time he had some fun and went out. It wasn’t something he did as often as he wanted to do ‘cause going out cost money, and money was something he never had. His family was poor and so was he, and last year’s part time job hadn’t made much of a difference in the long run.

But he was going out, and once he got to where he wanted to be, he was dancing and having fun. Dancing was one of his favorite things to do, even though he wasn’t very good at it and he knew it. Mostly he just liked being silly and getting reactions from people. And it was also fun to mess around with the light shows in the different clubs. His light shows were far more spectacular, thank you very much. He had a feeling tonight was going to be a good night.

Still acting crazy on the dance floor, Cam spotted someone else who was also being ridiculous. The brunet was cute, and the possibilities when it came to flirting with people seemed endless in Cam’s mind. The more the merrier. Cam practically jumped on the younger boy, “Hi! Haven’t I seen you around Hammel before?” Cam didn’t mind being loud in places like this where anyone underage could come. He was happier that way anyways, you didn’t need substances to have fun. “Mathis, right?”

Mathis didn't go out often, for multiple reason. One, people always seemed to want to touch him in ways Mathis was damn sure he didn't like. Two? He needed money to go out. That was the main reason the mimic stayed back at Hammel. Not that his family was poor, in fact it was probably the opposite (in fact he distinctly remembered there was plenty of money around as a kid) however in order to get that money it'd involve his family speaking to him. Mathew aside, no one talked to him from his biological family. They even changed their phone numbers as though that would help. Hell the letters Mathis sent were always labeled "Return to Sender", all unopened.

But Mathis refused to let family issues color his rare night out. He had found a 100 dollar bill in his backpack earlier that day and he fully intended to use it to fund his night out. Forget buying new shirts or something responsible like that, Mathis would much rather go have fun far far away from his abode at Hammel. With a shudder to himself, the mimic's smoke filled blue eyes returned to the dance floor that was stretched out before him. Giving his pocket a pat to check the money was there, he quickly jumped from his spot on the wall and thrust himself into the mass of similarly aged bodies.

Within minutes Mathis was dancing with a long haired beauty (he did not notice that of course), with his hands placed on her hips to maintain their close distance. It was a relatively slow song but the heavy beat enticed both teens to be swaying their hips in a rather seductive way- or would have been seductive had it not been Mathis being the one doing it. A huge grin was splitting both his cheeks and as the song ended the girl swished away back into the crowd, just in time to avoid the stumbling Mathis. Why Mathis was stumbling? Simple. A heavy body had just slammed into him. The mimic flailed slightly (he would deny this later) and turned around with a bright blush, thinking that it was his roommate assaulting him yet again. The lack of roommate wiped the blush right of Mathis' face and he found himself grinning to the almost-stranger.

"Cameron!" he twanged, grinning even more as the boy said his name. "Yeh, yeh! We hada math class tagether. You sat in the middle by Oliver?" he spewed out, grinning happily still as he tilted his head just slightly to look into the others eyes. "So whatcha doing here? Gunna dance too or you meeting someone?" Mathis continued his little ramble, barely pausing for a breath as he looked expectantly around them.

Cam’s body couldn’t have been that heavy, he was skinny as a rail, and he definitely wasn’t in the business of assaulting people, he just liked making his presence known. “Yeah! That’s me! Here I am!” God that had been forever ago – Cam had been gone for nearly a year, but he couldn’t forget a pretty face, or eyes... He blinked a couple times at the question. “Uh yeah, no. I’m not meeting anyone, I’m just here having fun.” Having fun, that was his life’s motto and yet he seemed to find more drama with each passing week he was back at Hammel.

“Oh my god I love this song!” Cam announced, spinning around wildly and laughing. Yeah, he was just having fun and letting go of all the stresses of life. “What about you?” He asked over the music. “You free for the night?” And with that, Cam gave Mathis a wink and pulled him in for a spin. This could be a lot more fun than Cam had hoped for, but he was at least sexy, and he knew it. Cam didn’t usually dress up, so nice jeans and a decent black shirt was actually a change of pace compared to sweats and a t-shirt.

Pausing for a second, Cam pointed upwards. “Watch this,” he said. A small collection of light orbs danced around their heads and Cam laughed light heartedly. He loved showing off. “Our own personal disco ball.”

If possible, Mathis' smile even more as his eyes studied the male. Here was someone no making passes at him and was willing to spend some time with him. It was just an added bonus that he had no one else to entertain. "Well then there's two of us ta have fun, yeh?" he nodded along with the rapidly starting beat of a new song. It seemed, at least to him, that the DJ really liked heavy basses.

A laugh bubbled out of his mouth at the sight of the spinning male, breaking an train of thought the mimic may or may not have been trying to get to. He just grinned at the other's comment of 'oh my god' and cocked his head to the side as he casually swayed to the beat. However quite quickly he was being pulled into the dance, something Mathis didn't resist at all as the other took his hand. "Yeh. I'm always free." he laughed again, the lights reflecting in his blue eyes.

Mathis' deep blue button up shirt swirled around him briefly as both males paused and he looked up in confusion. As he did a collection of light orbs appeared and Mathis laughed loudly, resisting the urge to reach out to touch one. While the male claimed if was a disco ball, Mathis was inclined to pretend they were stars floating over the boys head. "Yeh? Well.. Be rude notta dance with that kinda show." he grinned before carefully pulling Cam back into the spin.

“Two’s better than one,” Cam agreed with a nod. Mathis seemed like a kindred spirit, and maybe they wouldn’t have any kinky fun, but goofy fun was a close second. “More than two is even better,” Cam added, not sure if he was talking about dancing or the dirty things on his mind. Oh well, hopefully Mathis wasn’t a mind reader. “You’re not a mind reader are you?” Cam asked, just to be sure. That way everyone’s mind could be put to rest.

Letting go of Mathis’ hand in favour of executing another silly dance move, Cam made a mental note of what the brunet said. “Always free? Hmm...” Yup, he was already plotting shenanigans and future dates. Cam made his arms all wiggly and wondered how lame he would look if he tried some 80s dance moves – ah well, maybe later. “Freeeee ooonn the weekend?” Cam mused out loud.

Going with the flow, Cam giggled and spun around into Mathis. “It’d be a better show if I had my guitar with me.” The blond let the little light orbs dance around them, each one about as big as an apple. “Where ya from Mathis? I’m diggin’ the accent.” Cam was all smiles as his power gave off a soft glow. Shit Mathis was pretty... Cam sighed to himself and shook his head.

"Naw naw. The mores there is the better the company, yeh?" He mused, cocking his head to the side. His statement was in answer into the other males. Not that Mathis really realized what Cam meant by his statement, since to the Texan it was all harmless fun. As the male was still seperated from him, Mathis suddenly burst into a cheesy grin. He tilted his head down and place his hand on the top of his own head, about where a hat would be. His feet jumped slightly as he began to shuffle in place, kicking his heels together as he completed a dance completely out of place in this club. "Ain'ta mind reader. I'ma mimic. Y'know, the animal kind. Meaning I can toss you about if I get the mind to." he twanged, head tilting to look at Cam as he continued his dance**.

Mathis clapped his hands over his head suddenly and spun once, slamming his heel into the ground before he let out a loud laugh. His eyes sparkled some as he began to just wiggle his body, feet stomping to the beat as was a custom Texan habit. "Always free on the weekend, ain't even gotta ask." he answered back, not realizing that Cam was mostly just thinking out loud. Inside, Mathis was squealing with joy at the idea of hanging out with /not/ his roommate.

As Mathis went back to holding onto Cam's hand he attempted to take the lead, swirling them into an actual pattern so they weren't just spinning in place. "OH? Ya play the guitar?" he asked, genuine interest lighting up his eyes. It only took a few more rotations before the mimic let go to swirl back away, a cheesy smirk on his face. "Well how abouts I give you three guesses as ta my homeplace?" his response was a slight goad to the other male, the cheesy grin never leaving his face.

Cam clapped along as Mathis danced – he really wasn’t as bad as some people said he was. It sort of matched the song, but it was too country to match completely. Still, Cam wasn’t going to judge, and he couldn’t help but feel attracted to Mathis because the other boy wasn’t afraid to be himself in public. That was something Cam really admired in people he met – someone genuine. The dance looked familiar though, and it was starting to bug Cam as to why. “Animal mimicry? Cool.” Cam smirked and tilted his head to the side. “Are you threatening me?” He teased.

Mathis pretty much made Cam’s night right then and there. “Don’t make promises you can’t keep, ‘specially when I come around with my truck to pick you up next Saturday.” And no, he wasn’t kidding. And yes, he would just show up at Mathis’ dorm room and demand they go do something fun. Other than dancing of course. Maybe they could drive up the mountain and jump off of it into the river – now that sounded like extreme fun.

Cam had danced only a few times before, and he did his best to follow Mathis lead, but it didn’t really seem like either of them knew what they were doing. This wasn’t a hoedown. “Mmm-hm,” Cam replied, too busy concentrating on the dancing now to brag about his guitar skills. Singing he couldn’t really do, but playing guitar, aw yeah that would get him a medal or something some day.

“Oh, we’re playing hard to get now? Okay.” Cam smirked, grabbing both of Mathis’ hands and twirling them around. “Tennessee?” Cam was really taking shots in the dark and his mind was on other, more handsome things. “Oh! I know!” Cam laughed at himself and shook his head. “That dance you were doing? From before? I’ve seen that in a movie! Coyote Ugly.” His smile said he was proud of himself and Mathis would know. “You learn that all by yourself or did you find a YouTube how to video?” Cam wasn’t making fun, he was genuinely interested in Mathis and his interest in dancing.

Lights reflected in the boys smoky eyes as he tilted his head, something akin to danger coloring his face. "Ain't a threat if itsa promise." he twanged in a deeper voice. The effect was ruined as the mimic suddenly laughed and tossed his head back into the lights. It was the first time he had tried being serious like that outside of sports so he had no idea if it worked or not. Not that he cared about that sort of thing. But it seemed like a cool idea to try and do.

As they spun around, Mathis continued grinning like nothing in the world could bother him. "Ya can show up in a truck all you want. What time Saturday? 'Cuz I'd rather not have to stay in my room all day waitin' for you." He called over the music. He let the guitar topic fade away at the lack of response. Besides he had to focus his attention back on the attempt to dancing. It wasn't like he was TRYING to do a hoedown, it just happened to be what he was used to doing on the dance floor.

His attempts were interrupted suddenly by Cam grabbing his hands and twirling him about, something Mathis was instantly leaning into with a wide smirk. "Naw. I ain't from Tennessee... Try further South." he added helpfully, tilting his head to watch the balls of lights above their swirling heads. He didn't even look away from the orbs in order to respond. "Youtube how ta? I ain't gunna cheat like that. Ma brother taught me back in Texas when we were real little." he smiled at the memory before blinking, realizing he'd just revealed where he was from. Mathis glanced at Cameron hurriedly, worried the male would have caught the mistake.

Cam could only smile, lost somewhere between Mathis’ sexy, growly voice, and then his light laughter. Too perfect for me... Cam thought to himself, really, really glad that Mathis wasn’t a mind reader. “Guess we’ll see what happens.” Cam said for the sake of saying it. There really wasn’t much left to say to something like that, only time would tell.

“It’s a nice truck too, by the way.” In Cam’s mind it was still brand spanking new, and though it was nothing like his old beater, this one had the potential for so many new memories. The blond’s eyebrows shot up and he laughed. So much for playing hard to get. “Whenever ya want babe,” Cam said easily, “I’m a morning person, but, that doesn’t always fly for everyone.” And if Mathis wanted a later time, Cam would happily oblige.

“Not Tennessee? Damn.” Cam said, thinking. “Don’t tell me! I still have two guesses, and if I guess, you owe me... something...” South South South... “Houston? It has to be Texas somewhere,” Cam decided, clearly determined to figure this out. But if he was wrong, he only got one shot left. Well, at least he knew it was Texas for sure. Cam smiled softly. “I wouldn’t say that’s cheating,” Cam said, letting the topic slide. He could tell by the look on Mathis’ face that that wasn’t something he wanted to share.

Cam let the little light orbs fade away and when a slower song started to play, he gestured towards the tables. “Wanna sit with me for a bit?” Cam didn’t do mushy romance crap.

Easy laughter bubbled out of Mathis' mouth again, since it was never hard to find joy beneath the younger boy's skin. His eyes were sparkling with a hidden energy as he smirked at Cameron, pausing in his answer as though it required real effort to respond to the question of when exactly they would be hanging out next. "Well... Letsee... I go running early in the mornin' so any time after... Say... Seven works just fine for me. Or if you wanna see a sunrise be at ma room say 'round five in the morning 'n we can eat some breakfast too." he offered up, shrugging some at his own suggestion. Which ruined the rhythm of his dance, but Mathis wasn't one for nitpicking his clearly amazing dancing skills.

As the male against him began to ponder about his hometown Mathis was similarly absorbed in a train of thoughts, though not one he expressed outwardly. His train of thought was more centered around Cameron and thoughts of just how nice it was to hang around a guy who wasn't flirting with him. Mathis wasn't going to count Oliver towards the non-flirting-guys he hangs out with, mostly because Oliver was a special case and could not be judged by all standards. They were basketball friends, nothing more. Probably.

The mimic blinked rapidly so he could focus back on what was going on around him and his smoky eyes caught the gestures Cam was making. A smile graced his lips before he nodded and started walking towards the tables indicated. Like Cameron he chose not to indulge in slow dancing (though their reasons weren't similar). "Sounds like a idea ta me..."

Mathis ran? Cam smirked, remembering the one time he had tried doing that – he had nearly died after jogging at a light pace for about two minutes. Nope, he wasn’t going to repeat that catastrophe again, and he wasn’t going to lie just to impress someone. “How ‘bout I cook breakfast for you?” Cam offered, still dancing to the beat, chuckling as Mathis lost his place in the dance – it was adorable. “I’m the best cook in the student body,” Cam bragged, wiggling his eyebrows at Mathis. What person in their right mind would turn down good food?

“So tell me,” Cam started once they were seated, “did I win? Did I guess where you’re from?” The blond was all smiles and he ran a hand through his hair. He loved dancing, but he didn’t like being sweaty. His hand felt dry so good, he wasn’t a glistening mess at the moment. “You want a coke or something?” He offered.

Mathis didn't really 'run' per-say. At least he didn't in run in the way Cameron was probably thinking, since he really only ran to keep up his endurance for basketball. After all he did spend most of his time just running around the court, dribbling the ball and passing it to help out his teammates. Which is actually a lie, but it is what he thinks he does. At Cam's spoken statement, Mathis perked and if he had dog ears they would have practically stood up full mast. "Breakfast?" he asked, audible interest in his voice. Though the following half snort half huff seemed to contradict the interest. "Naw. You can't be the best. Too many of us cookin' for you to be king."

The mimic slowly slid into his own seat and leaned back just a bit to check that the back would indeed hold his weight. "Yeh, you won. I'm from Texas. From a lil' town you wouldn't know the name of." he nodded almost to himself before leaning back forward. His whole body felt like it was singing, radiating the happiness he was feeling. Mathis gave his new friend a cheek splitting grin, cocking his head to the side. "I ain't gunna say no to food if you don't mind?"

If Cam could be any animal, he would be a dog. Kind, friendly, loyal, easily excitable... Yeah, that pretty much summed him up. And Mathis seemed to be similar in personality and he rubbed Cam just the right completely non-sexual way. “Harumph,” Cam said, crossing his arms over his chest abruptly. “Challenge accepted. Get ready for my breakfast to blow your mind.” Mathis really had no idea what he just signed up for did he?

Smiling ear to ear Cam clapped his hands together and then pointed at Mathis. “I knew it! Don’t worry, the accent is hot,” Cam said with a nod and a wink. The blond got up again, he was never too still for very long anyways, and patted Mathis once on the shoulder. “Cool, brb.” Yeah, Cam was one of those people who did that in real life.

Going to the bar, Cam placed an order for a couple cokes and one of the greasy pepperoni pizzas they had in the back. He sat back down beside Mathis and slid the coke over to him. “Gonna guess where I’m from now?” He asked, taking a sip of the pop. Apparently people from California had an accent he wasn’t aware of.

Funny thing about Cam's evaluation of his own animal, since it was almost the same thing Mathis had gotten. Granted Mathis was pegged to be a puppy and not a dog, but he was pretty sure that was close to the same thing so it made sense to the mimic that they got along. If he were actually thinking this, but he wasn't, so all he really knew is that Cameron made him smile and want to go back to dancing. However, something in him couldn't accept that Cameron was assuming his win from what was, in his head, the cooking challenge. The mimic cocked his head to the side briefly and huffed at the boy across from him, his smoky eyes lighting up at the challenge acceptance. "Fine. Have yer acceptance, but I getta make sum'thin' ta enter wit'... Dinner, lunch, yer pick." he drawled out, letting his accent drip just a little thicker. A little in this case means a lot though.

Which apparently wasn't the wisest thing to do considering some of the next words out of Cam's mouth. Mathis' smile lessened some as he ducked his head to hide the almost automatic blush that seemed to appear whenever someone said something nice or flirty towards him that he managed to catch on to. As he did so though he heard the chair feet scrape against the floor of the club, though how he heard it was a mystery, and tilted his head to look towards the now standing male. "Did you just... It's real life, y'know that right?" he questioned, a wide grin pulling at his lips once more. Somehow he just had to find Cam's use of slang funny even though it was slightly out of context.

Now left to his own devices, Mathis began to look around the club and grinned privately to himself when he noticed a pair dancing on the floor like nobody was watching. If only because he knew them. The mimic was still grinning to himself when Cameron came back with their drinks and food, torn between being happy to be fed and being worried that it took so little time to get the food ordered. He slid his coke closer to himself, taking a small drink while he pondered the question of Cam's origins. Ruling out the mid west was easy, as was ruling out the south, which pretty much left costals or states no one cared about anyway. "Hmmm.. Are you from the west coast?" he asked at random, hoping to win using the fifty/fifty strategy. Under the table his hand quickly ran through the cardinal directions so he could check that what states he had just asked about.

Cam smirked, “Oh, so we’re having an all day date?” He was okay with that, even though he said it in a very joking way. It was really no wonder that no one ever took him seriously. “I’ll make breakfast, we can watch a movie or something, and then you can make lunch.” He leaned forward, a silly grin on his face while they danced. “But I’m still gonna win.” Cam had no idea that Mathis was also a good cook, so, they were just going to have to be honest with each other once it came to cooking day.

It wasn’t that Cam liked making people feel uncomfortable, but when Mathis ducked his head, Cam couldn’t help but think he was adorable. “Yeah, so?” Cam asked, glancing behind at Mathis as he left. He wasn’t afraid to be who he was and if people didn’t like that, they could kiss his ass. Cam waved at the various people he knew in the club, and chit chatted while he waited for his order. It wasn’t the best food around, everyone knew that, but sometimes it was better than nothing. And honestly, who didn’t want greasy pizza every now and then?

But back to actually being with Mathis, Cam snapped his fingers and pointed at the brunet. “Bingo.” Now all he had to do was guess which state and they’d be even. Not that Cam was keeping track, but sometimes having stakes made everything more interesting. Ripping out a slice of pizza, Cam took a bite out of it and grinned. “I’d give this like, a 2 out of 5.” The cheese was greasy as hell, and the pepperoni probably wasn’t even real. “So, what’re you making us for lunch?” He asked, polishing off the first slice and deciding if he wanted another or not.
