During some emergencies, the only solution is to ride it out with a nice cup of tea.

Kristina entered the shop, adjusting the strap of her bag on her shoulder. She was exhausted, needless to say, as the last of her final projects and exams were coming to a close. The Czech girl had just finished her photography portfolio, and was ready to hand it in when she was back at the university.

For now, she was content with treating herself to a well deserved cup of tea and lunch. The brightly coloured shop surrounded her, making Kristina shift in response. She'd never been here before, but had passed by many times beforehand. The promise of tea was always a plus in her books.

She got into line, eyeing the menu as the lights began to flicker around her. Digging out her wallet, Kristina shuffled along as she decided what to get, the lights continuing to glimmer periodically.

Yasmine walked into the tea shop, while pushing the stroller that held her little girl. She had just been walking about for the day, they had gone to the mall, and now Yasmine felt a little thirsty. She was pretty sure she shouldn’t give an infant caffeine, so she was hoping this place had some regular juice, like maybe apple juice or orange? Only one way to find out…

Standing in line behind a young woman, who was looking at the menu. Yasmine was content in line, talking to strangers in a line like this wasn’t something she normally did. Then again it wasn’t something anyone normally did. Why? Because everyone was content, and only in that place for one reason, and it was not to socialize. Which being a psychologist Yasmine understood very well.

However, when the lights started to flicker on and off, something in Tacicalla had stirred. Yasmine wondered what had gone wrong, was she scared of the lights? Because before she had been playing with her key ring toy… With the baby crying, she realized many people would be annoyed. She picked the little girl up in her arms and started rocking her up and down and rubbing her back. “hey it’s okay, it’s just faulty lights. I’m here to protect you.” Kissing the baby’s cheek, she looked at the people in front of her and gave a shy smile, “I’m so sorry… Please forgive her.” Maybe she should go outside until she calms down…

As the lights began to flicker, a frown appeared on Kristina's face. Maybe it was a mistake coming into this place for her tea, the wiring or something seemed to be faulty. Then, a baby started crying. She turned around, seeing a woman with red hair trying to soothe the baby girl in her arms. Nobody else seemed to react. Kristina wasn't annoyed by the crying, and instead, gave the stranger a small, forced smile. "No need to apologize, babies do what babies do." She said, her face returning to its usual neutral expression.

Her eyes glanced up to the menu board again, and back to the woman with the baby. "You... you got any suggestions? I've never been here before and just want a tea of some sort." The Czech girl admitted.

Just as she was next in line to order, the lights flickered, and with one last movement, shut off, the entire tea shop going dark. It only took a moment for it to be illuminated again with the screens of everyone's cell phone, as panicked and disgruntled voices filled the air.

Yasmine was pleased that no one seemed to mind the baby. She had lost count of how many times she left a restaurant because her crying disrupted people’s meal… Not that anyone kicked her out, but because she felt like she was just being a nuisance to everyone around her. It was those times that she felt that she was in over her head by adopting a child. “Thank you.” It was a very sincere thank you. Most people weren’t so understanding… Strangely enough.

“Umm… Their berry tea is pretty good. So is their mint, if you like the taste of mint… Or berries..” Yasmine favored the berry tea more than the mint, but they were both good..

Once the power went off fully, Tac seemed to calm down, she stopped crying, and was now only sniffling, with a few tears falling down her cheeks. “It seems the power is out…” She looked out the window, all the other stores lights were off, and so were the street lights. People were gathering outside to see what was going out. “It’s not just the tea shop.. It looks like the whole town’s power is out.” She looked at the woman in front of her, with a confused expression. This didn’t seem right…

Kristina simply nodded in response, her eyes flickering between the woman with the red hair and the menu board. She usually went with a cup of chai tea or black tea, but wanted to try something new. She needed to get out of her rut put on from all the exams and studying.

The stranger recommended a couple of options. The Czech girl wasn't a huge fan of mint in her tea, so she would go with the berry. "Alright, I think I'll go with the berry then, thanks." Her lips curled up into a faint smile.

Slipping her hand into her schoolbag, Kristina dug out her own phone, her face and the other woman's now illuminated from the screen. She blinked in confusion, not able to recall the last time she had been in a power outage. The baby in her arms seemed to have calmed down also. "Hmm." Kristina mused, turning her head to look out the window.

The streets were darker than usual, peppered with confused citizens looking around with dazed expressions. "This seems odd." She commented. When was the last time there was a power outage in a town full of metas? "Maybe it'll be up soon?"
