The easy S T U F F . . .Name: Samuel Joseph Knight
Nickname: Sam, Sammy
Age: Fourteen-years-old
Member Group: Hammel Student
Power(s): Retrocognition – Samuel is able to see memories attached to certain objects he touches, as well as when he touches people-- though when he touches people the memories are more like brief flashes that are difficult for him to make sense of. With more training he would be able to better sift through to specific memories, both with people as well as with objects, but at this point what memories he finds are completely random.
Side effects of his power are an increased difficulty in remembering his own past the longer he has his power, as he gets memories he has witnessed mixed up with his own. He hoards a specific stash of items that have his own memories attached to them in an attempt to keep certain memories of his own straight. Since his power has developed, he has also had a very hard time keeping track of the date, from what day of the week it is, to what year it is. Finally, he struggles with headaches/migraines, the frequency and severity of which depend on how much he's used his power.
Play By: Asa ButterfieldLet it F L O W . . .Small for his age, a “teacher's pet”, “nerd”, and “four-eyes”, Samuel has been the target of plenty of teasing. He largely prefers the company of adults over kids his age, and prefers his own company over either. Given the choice between watching people and socializing with them, he will take people watching every time. It's something he enjoys and learns from. He is often underestimated, as he doesn't voice his opinions terribly often, or join in on conversations voluntarily, but when he does speak it is generally with something surprisingly well thought out or insightful. He refuses to talk unless he is extremely certain what he says will contribute to the conversation, or at least be taken seriously.
Samuel was born into a family where children were to be seen and not heard, or else risk retaliation of some kind-- typically verbal. He was the youngest, with two older brothers (Kent [five years older] and James [two years older]). Kent often took frustrations he had with his parents out on his two younger brothers, which caused James and Samuel to become fairly close, and James to watch out for Samuel a lot.
As a family well below the poverty line, and with parents who were either absent from home (doing what, Samuel had no idea), in front of the tv, or barely conscious (again, the cause of which Samuel didn't know), it took barely more than the report of a concerned teacher for there to be a major intervention done. Samuel was about seven when he and his brothers were taken into state custody. He actually wouldn't have minded that much, since he had no particular bond with his parents or oldest brother, but when it became clear that he would be separated from James, he took a turn for the worse. It didn't matter what sort of foster family he was placed in-- his first course of action would be to run away and find James.
James had been placed with some extended family that had offered to take him in, and was also better able to care for him than his parents. However, they only had room in their small house for one other child. Since Samuel knew where this extended family lived, it rarely took him long to show up there, and James would always try to hide him in his room.
Eventually, Samuel was placed far enough away that running away to James was impossible. Though his foster family tried to let him visit James as much as possible, for about a year Samuel remained in a steady depression. After that, with the combination of a good foster family and counselor, he began improving. By the time he was with that family for about five years, at the age of thirteen, he had balanced out, though he still remained in contact with James as much as possible.
At thirteen, he was bumped foster families again, as the one he had been with for five years had to move out of state for job reasons. It is little surprise that the parting was difficult on him, and he all but ignored the family he ended up with next.
At fourteen, an extremely jarring thing happened-- he began seeing things when he touched people and objects, hallucinations he thought. No matter what he touched, from silverware, to shoes, to his Nintendo, something would present itself. He refused to tell anyone about this for a few days, certain that he was going crazy. However, he finally sought out and confided in his old counselor. This counselor, after a few questions, became fairly certain that what Samuel was experiencing wasn't insanity, and encouraged his foster parents to bring him to a doctor for testing.
That was when Samuel and his foster family discovered he was meta, and a day or so after that, about five days after his initial manifestation, a recruiter contacted them. Another foster family move was inevitable, and Samuel almost looked forward to it. He had no particular fondness for his current family, and going to a school full of people just as strange as himself he decided would be a good change of pace. Not to mention he wanted to learn how to stop seeing random memories when he touched things and people.
So now, he will be attending Hammel as a student, and staying with the foster family of Lukas Miles in Pilot Ridge. As is protocol, he has had an interview with the Miles family, and though he doesn't feel a great fondness for them yet, neither does he feel any dislike. He is, however, somewhat skeptical about living in a family with more than two other siblings, as the majority of his foster families have only ever had one other child.
Other than people-watching, Samuel enjoys playing his NintendoDS, and is quite the informed gamer. What he doesn't play, he reads about, and he knows all the ins and outs of different games, gaming systems, and game producers. Of course, he doesn't often divulge this information, since he's gotten enough flack in the past from people who teased him for being a know-it-all.
He hopes that at Hammel he will be able to find a couple friends he can get along with, while learning as much as he can about his power. He is curious about how staying with a family that has metas in it will be different from staying with non-metas, but is still fairly skeptical about whether or not he will get closer than arms length with them.Behind the M A S K . . .Name: Raven
