SUE: Movie Marathon! (Matty.)

With the blackout still happening, Cam wasn’t sure if his idea would work. As far as he was concerned, he couldn’t manipulate electricity, only light. After trying and failing to get his DVD player to work, Cam finally gave up. It was very discouraging when all he was getting was the little red light to stay on – it was like it was teasing him or something!

But this was a school for meta humans, and Cam was friends with at least seventy percent of the student body, therefore, it had not been too difficult to call in a favour and ask someone who could manipulate and generate electricity to hook up his DVD to an elaborate electric generator. Yes the battery could be used for higher purposes, but a movie marathon with a boy he liked seemed noble enough, didn’t it?

Phone dead, Cameron did things the old fashioned way and went over to Mathis’ dorm, deciding that since they had hung out before he didn’t need to knock any more. He did however, knock on Matty’s door directly. “Hey Matty, you there?” Cam asked, a hopeful smile on his face. Even though it was almost ten o’clock at night, Cam could see everything clear as day. Light manipulation did have it’s assets.

“I know the power’s still out, but I was hoping you’d wanna come back to my room for that movie marathon we were talking about? I found a way around the power supply!” Yes, he was going to brag about it if Matty was home.

Mathis didn't really think that him and Cameron would meet up during the black out. But after his phone died directly following the texting between the two, Mathis found himself with nothing to do. It took only a few hours of lying in his bed in a pool of self-pity and confusion before the mimic jumped out and ran about in his usual fashion. Still, the conversation lingered in the back of his mind all the while.

So after more time had passed -an unspecified amount of time- Mathis finally came to the conclusion that he should try to keep him promise of cookies. Even if they were in the middle of a black out. The mimic made quick work of tracking down a few of the students who could control fire and forced asked them to help him with his mission. With a little bit of practice, and a lot of tired fire users, Mathis had a plate of double chocolate chip cookies. He'd swirled a little bit of regular cookie dough in as well with white chocolate chips to give it a bit of color and topped all of them with drizzles of melted chocolate (alternating between milk and white).

With his satisfactory cookies in hand, Mathis made his way back to his dorm room and was just starting to package the still warm cookies by candle light when his dorm burst open. The mimic was slightly ignorant to the time since he'd been busy with cookie preparation, and the lack of clock made life harder, but he realized it was rather late. So to see Cameron walking through his door rather than one of his roommates... Well... Mathis gave the other a rather wide but slightly embarrassed grin. His heart was doing funny things in his chest. It had been ever since their phone conversation. Which.. Matty still didn't have the answer to. "In here!" It took him a minute to find his voice, much less increase his grin to it's usual strength.

Blue eyes blinked rapidly as the light manipulator walked into his dorm like he owned the place, but the grin remained in place. "Whatcha do ta fix the power outtage? Rob a kid blind or somethin'?" He grinned anyway and grabbed the plastic container of his warm, still gooey cookies. "I made those cookies today! Wanna try one 'fore they go cold and then I'll just grab some stuff 'fore we head to your dorm?"

Cam laughed and shook his head. “I don’t see how robbing anyone would help.” Honestly, Matty should’ve known him better than that! “It’s kind of a long story, wanna hear it?” Cam asked, crossing his arms across his chest as he watched Matty move around and grab a container.

“Do I ever!” Cam exclaimed, an excited smile on his face. Taking the container, Cam opened it up and popped one of the gooey cookies into his mouth. “Mmmm, omg, these are amazing!” It didn’t take long for Cam to finish the first cookie, and judging from the taste and look of the, Matty had put in a lot of effort to make these. “You gotta give me the recipe,” Cam said instead of saying thank you.

“Wait,” Cam said as Matty grabbed whatever he needed for the night, “how did you manage to make these?” There wasn’t any power, and they were definitely warm and delicious.

Sealing the lid to the container, Cam walked out of Matty’s dorm, holding the cookies possessively. “I don’t have to share right?” Cam teased, opening the door to his dorm for Matty. “My room’s at the back,” Cam said, “on the left.” And once Matty got in, there would be a nice clean bed to sit on (yay fresh sheets!) and some pretzels, chips, and Cream Soda to snack on. And Matty’s cookies, which Cam planned on hogging.

Of course Mathis hadn't meant the light manipulator would actually rob someone. Cameron seemed much too nice to do something like that. No, his question had merely been a poor joke. One that didn't fall to well, not that the mimic noticed. "Long story? Go right ahead, we got time."

Mathis grinned when Cam took a bite of his cookie and he couldn't fight down the surge of pride at the other's exclamation of 'omg'. He'd gotten used to Cam speaking like he would through text and now just took those words in stride. His grin increased when the manipulator asked for the recipe. As far as Mathis was concerned that was even better than if the male had thanked him. "How about when we get ta your dorm I'll write down what all I did?"

With a secretive grin he bounced quickly into his bedroom to collect his backpack sitting just inside the door. He was a little ashamed to admit that he had packed his backpack since their conversation, just to be prepared to head over to Cam's. Once he picked it up he scooted back to Cameron with a wide grin. "I tired out half a dozen pyro kinetics is how. Cookies were a lot harder than I thought ta make."

"You gotta share. I made 'em. I get to eat 'em!" He grinned anyway as he followed Cameron to the dorm, pushing his bag further on his shoulder. There was a nod as he heard Cam's directions and he quickly moved through the dark interior to go into Cam's room, flopping down on the clean bed with a warm smile. "You got us food, too? Did you think of everything?"

Eager to tell the story, Cam went through the whole thing. Finding someone to charge the battery for him that was now connected to the DVD player, he even told Matty about how frustrating it was that he couldn’t make the player work on his own and had to ask for help. “Oh well, guess I get to be a flashlight,” he teased, glancing over at Matty.

From one cook to another, Cam hoped Matty could tell just how spectacular the cookies were, nodding in agreement. “Please tell me you’ve had one, they’re sooo effing good!” And Cam would probably talk about them all night too. “They’re probably full of sugar – that’ll keep us up all night for sure.” Because Cam was definitely motivated to spend as much time with Matty as possible.

Matty hadn’t taken too long to get ready and Cam tilted his head to the side in amusement as the brunet remerged. “You always ready to go so quickly?” He teased, smiling up at Matty. It was hard to remember who was older here sometimes. Cam laughed. “Well yeah, if you don’t have an oven all ready to go... At least we’re inventive.” They were birds of a feather!

“Fine, I’ll share,” Cam grumbled, loosening his grip on the cookies, “maybe…” Walking into his room, Cam watched Matty settle in and tried not to panic. Giving Matty a sweet smile, Cam shrugged like his forethought wasn’t a big deal. “I like treating my… uh, crushes, in the best way possible.” He was being honest but sensitive to Matty’s feelings.

“So, X-Men is good?” Cam asked, turning on the DVD player. Wolverine was already in there and Cam had settled onto his bed, pushing a stuffed animal he hoped Matty hadn’t noticed off his bed and onto the floor. “Wolverine is badass, so we’re watching that one first,” Cam decided, patting the spot next to him. “It’s here or the floor bud,” Cam said, shaking the cookies around, “just remember I got the goods, and I won’t share if you’re on the floor.”

"So you're gunna be my personal flashlight?" He grinned at Cameron, head cocked to the side. He didn't understand that there was anything might be taken wrong with that he said. Nor did he honestly want to know if he'd said something that could be taken the wrong way.

Matty hummed at Cam's question and scratched the back of his neck in a kind of speeshish way. "Well... I had a bit of the ones that ain't turn out right but I didn't have any of those yet." He admitted it with a faint shrug as he came out of his bedroom, pack in hand. "Y'know I wanted to be prepared! I was actually plannin' on poppin' by tomorrow or something to give you the cookies." It was a little hard to admit that out loud but he managed it, in the end.

Looking around the room with wider than normal eyes, Matty wasn't really sure what he should make of the space. His fingers slid across to obviously clean sheets as he settled on the bed, ignoring the surge of nervousness that ran through his blood. What if Cameron didn't like peopl- Mathis' mouth opened in an empty aired gasped. Right. Crush. Liking. Gay. Straight. Maybe this wasn't such a great idea. Maybe he should go. The mimic was still attempting to find the energy to pull himself out of the bed and leave when Cameron sat on the bed beside him.

A small movement caught his attention as a small stuffie was shoved to the floor. Instantly Mathis launched at the opportunity to distract himself from the thoughts of Cameron. And kissing. Dating. Bad things. He slid off the bed slowly before reaching out to picked up the stuffie, rolling it over in his hands. "Is this yours?" He asked, completely disregarding anything Cam might have said. Because he definitely hadn't heard anything with his mind so full of panic filled thoughts.

“Whenever you want,” Cam said, tapping Mathis’ nose lightly, even though what he really wanted to do was give the brunet a kiss. If it meant spending more time with Mathis, he’d do whatever the other boy wanted.

“I’ll have to save you some then,” he said, giving Matty an appreciative hug before they left. “Making cookies in this blackout? I give you props bro,” he said, pulling away and glancing at Matty’s bag, giving a laugh. Cam smiled broadly. “Were ya really?” It made Cam feel special, no one really made him stuff, he was always the one doing that.

Cam wasn’t really neat, but he wasn’t a slob either. His room was decently clean with only a few things sprawling here and there. After Matty completely disregarded everything Cam said and picked up the stuffed dog, the blond pressed play on the DVD. “Wolverine it is,” he said, glancing at Matty briefly.

“Yes, that’s mine. It’s in my room isn’t it?” His hands went over Matty’s, thinking that the contact would freak the brunet out just enough for Cam to snag the stuffie out of his reach. “Why ya so nervous Matty?” He pushed the cookie container in front of Matty instead with his free hand. “Cookie?”

“So then… A sleepover till the power’s back?” It wasn’t that Matty was afraid of the dark, exactly. He just wasn’t too terribly fond of not being able to see what was going on around him. Understandable, really, after all who would be fond of being blind when the sun wasn’t around?

Mathis returned the hug easily and gave Cameron a wide grin of thanks for allowing him to eat his own cookies. Which wasn’t sarcastic at all. Not even close. Grinning still, Matty pulled the bag onto his shoulder and ducked his head slightly. “Yeah… I mean… Why wouldn’t I pop on by? I didn’t want the cookies goin’ bad!” He looked up at Cam, brows drawn together in his confusion. After all, when you had friends wasn’t this something you were supposed to do?

It wasn’t like Mathis intended to not hear everything Cam said. He was too busy trying not to freak out over whatever it was going on. Granted he knew what was going on but that would involve admitting to it, and Mathis was pretty sure if he said it outloud it would make his sin worse. “Hmm? Yeh. Wolverine’s fine.”

The mimic shook some when he felt Cam’s hand slide over his, practically jumping from the unexpected touch. As predicted he let go of the stuffie, though he wanted with a frown when Cam took it away. Why was he so nervous anyway? Oh.. Right… God was watching, they were alone, Matty was pretty sure this was a date, and did Cameron have to be so close??? “You confuse me!” He burst out, too busy panicking inside his head to realize what he had just said. A few deep breaths followed his outburst before the mimic took one of the offered cookies, wanting to go back to being even a bit more comfortable around Cam. “...So… Movie?”

"Until the power comes back?" Cam laughed, his eyes going over all of Matty's facial features. "That could be a long time. I'll have to eat and shower and shit at some point." But again, if that's what Matty really wanted, Cam would definitely oblige.

"Cookies don't really go bad," Cam countered. It didn't really matter, what did matter, was that Matty wanted to visit and bring him cookies. He wasn't going to complain.

Throwing the stuffy over Matty and across the room, Cam lowered his arm down slowly at the brunet's comment. "What?" Cam asked. Trying to segue his way out of the situation, Cam shook his head. "I don't think so, you don't just get to say something like that without an explanation. What did I do?" Now Cam was confused - had he done something wrong?

"Yep! Till the power comes back. Have a really, really long movie marathon." He laughed slightly, unable to stop the urge to scratch the back of his neck nervously. Did Cameron really have to look at him like that? Or... At all... Maybe this probably was a bad idea. Mathis grinned anyway. "I'm game if you are! I mean I gotta go back and get ma stuff... But still."

Mathis huffed slightly and gently shoved Cam's shoulder in a playful manner. Because, really, for a cook Cameron might be a little dense. Either that or his mom taught him wrong. Or his experiences were wrong. "Yeah huh. Y'ever eat a cookie that's been out for a week or so? It's gunna be stale- or bad. Chocolate ain't good if it stays out a lot plus it can dry out. 'N some cookies gotta be refrigerated or they ain't good at all, but those are more filled ones."

Smoky eyes couldn't help but watch impassively as the stuffie was thrown. He wanted to go get it, to have something else for the conversation to be on. Another surge of panic welled in him before he ducked his eyes, trying to avoid having to look up at the other. Slowly munching on the cookie he stole, he couldn't even enjoy the still warm chocolate as he tried to find words to explain everything he was feeling. But... He couldn't seem weak. He couldn't seem tempted or God might just decide to put the poor mimic out of his misery. He especially couldn't find the right words for what he was feeling. What he was thinking.

Eventually though, he swallowed the thick sludge of the cookie before working up the words. "With your texts... Y'know... That."

Cam laughed and shook his head, giving Matty a grin. “If I didn’t know any better, I’d think you were afraid of the dark or something,” he said, “or you’re looking for an excuse to spend more time with me.” Cam gave a shrug like it wasn’t a big deal. “Not that I’m complaining.”

“Uh huh, uh huh,” Cam said, nodding along but not really paying attention to the lecture he was getting. “Cookies can go bad, got it. My bad.” The way he had grown up, if he was going to spend money and time making something, he was going to make sure it all got eaten so nothing went to waste. Besides, they couldn’t be much worse than the cookies that sat on stores shelves for weeks or more.

When Matty took a lifetime to answer the question, Cam was just about ready to focus on the movie again. But then things would be awkward. He thought Matty liked him, like, maybe as more than a friend. But then again Cam always wanted that to happen when he met someone he thought was attractive and amiable.

“Oh, you mean me liking you?” He asked, glad Matty decided to say something after all. “We can just be friends, I don’t want things to be weird between us.” In the end, Cam was as generous as he could be. Matty was wonderful, kind, and adorable, and the last thing Cam wanted to do was ruin that or hurt him.

Cam was oblivious to what Matty was going through in his head, and had already turned his attention towards the TV, mindlessly reaching for another cookie.

Mathis frowned slightly, almost pouting before he grinned at Cameron. "Of course! Why wouldn't I wanna spend time with you? You are ma friend..." He explained, shrugging right alongside Cameron. It was a true statement, regardless of whether or not he wanted to state what else Cameron might be. No need to freak himself out so early into the evening. It'd only ruin the whole movie night planned.

Another swallow broke the nervousness in Mathis and he reached up to scratch the back of his neck. His eyes looked to the side slightly to the side while Cameron spoke. Granted, the light manipulator had a point but everything was already in motion. He couldn't stop his train of thoughts anymore than he could have held his breath till he died. Even with the easier option being to just let things fall out and let Cameron be his friend and let God be happy... The seed had been planted and it had been watered and now it just needed to be nurtured and time before something would sprout.

He didn't even know how to respond to the words, his mind was still swamped with enough confusion it felt like he might drown. A simple phrase might be enough to turn the tides and he'd be dragged under. The mimic clung to his raft of "I can't do this" as he turned his eyes to the movie, trying to pretend everything was the same as it had been before Cameron touched him.

Blue eyes caught sight of the abandoned plushie and with a quick glance to Cameron the mimic slowly scooted across the room. Trying to be subtle, as though nothing was going on. Eventually he reached where the soft dog plush was laying and he picked it up gingerly, peering at it curiously. "So... Y'never said... Who is this li'l guy?"

Mathis didn't say anything more, and Cam let out a breath he hadn't realized he had been holding. So apparently they were just going to be friends. It wasn't a big deal, Cam could always make room for friends, but he couldn't help but also feel disappointed at the turn of events.

Polishing off another cookie, Cam watched Matty move off of the bed, the blond thought maybe he was taking a trip to the bathroom or something, so he just looked back to the TV screen. It wasn't until Matty spoke again that Cam smiled softly. "I didn't think it mattered," he said, giving a shrug. His eyes flicked to the screen again and then back to the brunet. "His name's Walter."

Mathis didn't want them to be just friends, but he also didn't want them to be more. Not yet anyway. There was no way the mimic could see that could explain his feelings without there being an angry God or without Cameron getting the wrong idea. However, Mathis was unaware that the manipulator already had the wrong idea. But that was mostly because he was just expecting the more experienced boy -if the way he was flirting was any indicator- to understand what was going through his head.

Gentle hands rubbed the plushie's fur before he stood back up and walked over to sit on the bed once more. "Of course it matters!" He huffed slightly, holding up the dog with a wide grin. "Maybe I can bring ma lion ta meet Walter." With that, Mathis curled up on the bed some and turned his attention back to the TV to watch the movie Cam had worked so hard to get ready for them.
