"Gigi?"
The dog's name was spoken by a stranger, and immediately her head picked up out of curiosity. She didn't see anyone, so why was Louisa pulling at the rope thing around her neck and pulling her somewhere? She didn't like this. This didn't smell right. She wanted to go home. But Louisa kept pulling and pulling even though she kept biting the rope thing with as much might as she could. Last time she went to a place that looked like this -cold floors and white walls- she had pointy things stuck into her back. No, she didn't like this at all.
Louisa took her all the way to a room that had a large table thing in the middle, just like the where they put the pointy things in her. Her body stiffened, her head fell, and her legs spread to keep herself grounded.
"Ms. Rodriguez, I'm sure you know what is expected of an initial exam, but of course I need to ask anyway. Do you have proof of prior vaccinations?"
Gigi stared up at the woman speaking now, but she didn't recognize her. The woman had brown hair, like Louisa, but her skin was like the color of her food that Louisa gave her at home. She smelled good too, like the garden outside but like people at the same time. But she had on the white color blanket that the person who stuck the pointy things in her had, and so she didn't know if she could trust her. Could she?
"Hey!"
Louisa looked down at Gigi with mild irritation and did that weird hissing sound that she really didn't like, but the blanket lady kept her eyes on Gigi, and smiled. She bowed her head and looked away from the lady, and the lady went back on talking to Louisa.
"Thank you. So it seems like everything is up to date for the next few years, she is spayed, and is microchipped, is that correct?"
"Yes," Louisa said with a heavy, Spanish accent. "Her last vet retired and I heard you were the best, y tu hablas español."
By this time, Gigi had zoned out completely, after all, she couldn't understand a word they were saying. The dog shifted herself to lie on the cold floor, or at least she tried to; Louisa picked her up a few moments after and put her on the table, making Gigi tense. Was she going to have those pointy things in her again? No, she didn't want that!
"Hey! Hey! No!" She barked, trying to wiggle her way out of her grasp. But Louisa wasn't letting go!
"Gigi, It's okay. I'm not going to do anything you don't want me to do." This made Gigi stop and look at the white blanket lady, confused by how she was able to understand her. Gigi hadn't been able to really understand Louisa very well except for 'Gigi' and 'sit' and 'outside'.
Louisa stared at the white blanket lady with mild confusion, and then began speaking to her softly, her tone careful and deliberate, in the woman's native tongue of Spanish. "This is a clinic that services animals of meta-humans as well as the normal individuals, and that means we also hire meta-humans." She started, again keeping her tone careful as to let the idea sink in; some people were not very accepting of meta's, while others were, and so she had to ensure this woman knew of everything she was getting herself into simply coming to the clinic. "I, myself, am a meta-human with the power to speak to any mammal. Are you okay with this, Senora Rodriguez?"
Gigi was still very much intrigued by the way the woman was able to talk to her, and so she watched as the white blanket lady spoke, waiting for her to acknowledge her again. Louisa spoke up then with a normal tone, so Gigi simply ignored her owner. "Oh that's fine with me, really. My son attends Hammel. We moved here from Mexico four years ago," Louisa then smiled at Gigi, and back at the lady. "I'm glad you let me know, so I wasn't confused."
"Hey! Hey lady!" Gigi whined, "Talk! Talk!"
Louisa and the blanket lady looked at Gigi almost simultaneously, and she began wagging her tail. "Talk! Me! Me! Talk!" The lady in white seemed to laugh at her, and then she moved closer, pulling up her ear and scratching behind it at the same time, "Hello, cutie." Gigi flinched when some there was a thing being put at her ear, but when the lady started talking to her, she ignored it. "You know, my name is Desiree. I'm just trying to make sure you are okay and feel good so you can go home and play, okay?"
"Yeah..." Gigi whined, but ultimately allowed Desiree to put the thing in her ear. It didn't hurt, after all, and she was petting her at the same time, and that felt nice!
The exam went smoothly, except for the end when a stick thing was put in a place that she didn't like. It ultimately didn't hurt, but while Desiree was looking around at her and petting her, she was writing things down and talking to her.
She liked this lady because she came to this place from a far away place on the big metal thing when she was a puppy, just like Gigi, exept she came from Spain -what is Spain?-. She said her mom and dad were different kinds of human -Spanish and African American, whatever that means- and she said her dad was special like her! Desiree said he couldn't talk to animals, but he could do something too. She said at 12 -whatever that is- she came to here because she learned she could talk to dogs and she had to go to school -is that like the dog park?- with lots of people like her over here because her dad's mom lived there, and her dad went to that school as a kid too. She said she had been here ever since.
Gigi also asked what it was like to be able to talk to people and humans, and she said it was kind of hard sometimes because after talking for so long, she could sometimes forget and get stuck. She said it stopped after a while, but she learned to make sure it didn't happen very often because she had to work with a lot of dogs and cats during the day! She said that it could also hurt her head sometimes when going from animals and then back to people. And then Gigi asked if she had any littermates, and she said 11!
A lot of this stuff Gigi couldn't really understand at times, but it was nice to talk to someone new for once. Louisa didn't let her go to the dog park much. Actually, Desiree said she would ask, because she had been such a great girl, if Louisa would take her! Yay!
Louisa was thrilled that Desiree said she was a good girl, and even agreed to letting her go to the dog park later! Gigi decided she liked this lady, and would gladly come back if she had to! She was almost sad to go, but Desiree snuck her a treat before Louisa took them out of the door, and it was yummy!
"Bye! Bye!"
Desiree said goodbye, too!

What do you mean you are cancelling on her?
LeLe, I just don't have any time to be looking for a date right now. I appreciate you trying to help but I-
Wait, let me guess. You're on the right track to your amazing future, right? Come on, Desi! Think about that!
I have, and I don't want to get into a relationship and mistreat it because I'm working!
Look, girl, you're 27 years old and you have your own veterinary clinic. You came from freaking SPAIN with your Hot Spanish Mother and a good looking black man as a father with the few siblings you had at the age of 12. Your family BOOMED and yet you always found a way to have fun in the process.
Lele, Yeah, I know. But that--
No, you listen. I know you love your job more than you sometimes love yourself because who wouldn't love adorable puppies almost every day? But there will be a time where you will look back and be like 'Damn, why didn't I take that date?' Because work can only keep you occupied for so long.
But what about now when I am focused on my job and I want it to do well? My focus is entirely on this, and I just don't want to start something that I won't see through.
Woman, if you could have 7 siblings and still have fun in highschool with all the homework and home life that you had, you can go on a few dates that will last maybe an hour or two with some hot chicas. Come on, go to a bar or something and just enjoy yourself. You know you can always have me for a wingwoman. Hell, maybe I can even find a man for myself.DiosLele, you're seriously impossible, you know that? Stubborn as a bull.
I hope you were looking in the mirror when saying that, Desi.
Fine, reschedule the date for Friday. I promise I'll be there.
YES. Okay, I'll do that. Just make sure you look hot, and Desi?
Yeah?
Treat this girl well because I think she'll be a perfect match for you!
Mhmm, I'll see her on Friday.
