Any Tattoos? A very rough one of a Sun Wheel on the underside of his wrist.
Any Scars? One on his right foot, another on his right forearm, and a final one on the left side of his face.
General Appearance: Alexei is currently going through quite a growth spurt. Barely a year ago he was hardly 5'5", but at this point he is pushing six foot, with no sign of stopping very soon. Eventually he will reach around 6'2". Having already been thin, this sudden growth spurt has pushed him into being extremely lanky, almost bony, though not for lack of eating.
He has several small to moderate scars on his limbs, hands, and feet, most of which are like to go away with time and some of which are already fading. He does however have a permanent scar on his right foot, and a somewhat larger one on his right forearm. That aside, he has only one other scar (on his face) that looks possibly permanent.
As far as clothing goes, he will wear just about anything, but what he does wear he will carefully match. He puts effort into how he looks, a fairly recent development, shaves regularly, and though he prefers the more "windblown" look when it comes to his hair, he does tend to fuss with it to get it looking right.
Personality: Alexei has gone through many changes, personality-wise. However, currently he tends toward the awkwardly reserved side, though not by choice. He very much tries to form connections and relationships, though he is hesitant to call them friendships. Also, he is very much the people-pleaser, willing to do just about anything to get someone to like him.
That said, he isn't one to push himself forward either. He will stay on the outskirts, unless he sees that doing otherwise would be beneficial. That is another thing about him-- he is very calculating, always evaluating situations and people. He tends to be a good reader of people, but only as far as intentions are concerned. When it comes to social nuance and cues, he sometimes has more trouble.
Alexei has an extremely quiet tone, which he very, very rarely raises. He would rather give a, "Nevermind" than raise his voice to someone who has said, "What??" ten times. Also, he rarely meets anyone's gaze for more than a moment, and keeps his attention on the floor and on shoes the majority of the time. Though often interpreted as shyness, much of the time he means it as a sign of respect more than awkwardness. Essentially, if he's looking you in the eye consistently, he's either really ticked off (a very hard thing to do), majorly intense about whatever the conversation is about, or suspicious.
On the subject of being suspicious, that is another thing about Alexei-- he can be very jumpy. You can pretty much guarantee he will jump if you make a sudden noise or movement toward him. Also, when it comes to conflict, he will shut down and avoid at all costs. Very rarely does he take part in conflict. Especially concerning adult authority figures-- who he tends to be automatically suspicious of.Your VicesLikes:

Secret: Most things about his past.Family TiesFather: Unknown
Mother: Unknown
Siblings: None
Any Other Important People: The people who almost adopted him, whose names he doesn't know.HistoryAlexei was born in a Russian hospital, where he was abandoned at birth. No one knows who his father is, and barely know who his mother is-- and she is only a name on a piece of paper.
So, the first twelve years of Alexei's life was spent in an orphanage in Donetsk. When he was eight, he had prospective adoptive parents visit him from New York. He and they got along well, though he was extremely shy at first and hid from them as much as possible the first day or so. However, after one of the older boys at the orphanage shook him up, telling him that if he didn't get his act together, he'd be stuck there forever, Alexei quickly overcame his shyness. Though the orphanage wasn't harsh, it wasn't a bed of roses either, and America was like the promised land to the kids there.
He and his prospective parents got along well after that, and when they left after the required initial visit, Alexei even felt some sadness. However, they promised they would come back, and left him with a photo album containing pictures of themselves, the son they had back in New York, and a few pictures they had taken with Alexei during their visit. This, he treasured.
Barely a week after the visit, trouble arose. Alexei had always had difficulty learning, mostly with proper pronunciation and stuttering, but also with any sort of reading. He was labeled “incapacitated”, and sent to an institution. This was decidedly a worse thing than staying at the orphanage. Though at the orphanage caretakers took impatience or frustration out on the kids, it was rarely severely so. The institution was another matter.
The severe atmosphere there, coupled with his fear of the adoptive parents arriving at the orphanage, not finding him, and then leaving without him, spurred him to run away the first chance he got-- a few months after he had arrived. Being barely nine, as well as unused to anything concerning the outside world, he quickly became lost, and had several close calls with less than savory characters. However, it took only a week before he was picked up again, and sent back to the institution. He was watched more closely this time, and restrained much more than before.
Though this was a dark time for him, it didn't last as long as it could have. A year later, when he was ten, one of the more compassionate institution officials used his influence to make things somewhat easier for Alexei. True to form, as soon as this easing up allowed opportunity to escape, he took it. And this time he wouldn't be brought back.
He became one of the Ukraine's many street children, struggling at first to make it, but eventually falling in with a group that would perhaps be called a gang, but mostly only in the sense that they stole to survive. He stayed with them for four years of thievery, almost constant travel to different places, and cold.
In that fourth year, at fourteen-years-old, he began having regular headaches, as well as having difficulty with coordination. Not only did he keep having the odd feeling that he had more limbs than he should, or longer limbs than he should, but where he once was very coordinated, he began getting clumsy, to the point of drawing attention from the others in his group and jeopardizing “missions” that they went out on to get food or other things they needed.
The group began isolating him, afraid he was sick with something catching. None of them were about to endanger their lives being around a possibly vicious disease. The stress of all of this, as well as his quality of life plummeting from being abandoned by his group, caused Alexei to become actually ill. It is likely he would have died, had not a meta detector picked up on his trace and found him half-conscious in an abandoned warehouse. During his almost delirious state, his distress had triggered a weak level of his telekinesis, causing things like pebbles to skitter across the ground, or empty soda cans to crumple in on themselves. Obviously, he thought these things signs of insanity at the time.
Alexei spent some time in a hospital, as his body had been malnourished enough before the illness that his immune system had trouble doing its job. Even once he was out of danger, it took weeks before he began to regain some semblance of nourished health again. He was put on bed rest for quite some time, and after that, physical therapy for having been in bed for so long.
The majority of time he was on bed rest, he didn't talk much, nor did he find it easy to focus on or grasp the concepts people tried to explain to him about “meta” and “telekinesis” and “schools”. Even once he did begin to grasp what was going on, he played dumb to buy himself time to process it. Being meta meant gaining new status, but whether that new status would be beneficial to him or not was another matter.
All the recuperation and stalling gave people plenty of time to figure out what to do with him. Obviously, at first the school in Russia was the first choice, but when it began to seem as if Alexei was mentally disabled, they were very much less eager to take him. So, when he had recovered somewhat, he was tentatively sent to Kocher. He was given his current middle and last name, since no one knew who he was, and he didn't remember his original middle and last name.
It wasn't until several days after settling in that Alexei began to lower the facade of being not right in the head. Though he did still, yes, have definite learning disabilities, it didn't mean he wasn't clever, or that he couldn't carry on a conversation, though he was extremely reserved, especially at first.
After about a year at Kocher, at fifteen, Alexei requested to be transferred to Hammel. Though he didn't like major changes, his initial guise of being mentally handicapped hadn't been forgotten by many students, which had resulted in teasing and difficulty finding friends.
After being at Hammel for barely two weeks, he has already found his feet, and looks forward to having a clean slate to work on.
Throughout this time, he has managed to keep a hold of one of the pictures of himself and his almost-parents.
Though he is undecided on how he would feel about it, it is hoped that he will find a foster family while in the Americas as well.
Alexei originally learned Ukrainian and Russian, as those are the main languages of the Ukraine. While on the streets, he picked up smidges of English, and at Kocher he focused on learning more English, though obviously German was thrown at him as well. He found the two blessedly similar, and therefore easier to learn in some aspects, but also difficult because he would get them confused. Currently he is fluent in Ukrainian, semi-fluent in Russian, and has a working, basic knowledge of English, which he is quickly improving on. Since his only exposure to German was at Kocher, and he had a bad time of getting it mixed up with English, he only speaks it at a very, very bare-bone basic level, and even now often gets the two languages mixed up.
He relies heavily on audio books and tutors, as he is still struggling with learning to read and write.Roleplay ExampleSee Alex KylandWhat About You?Name: Raven
