Monday morning came and went but that was when this all started. When he woke up he simply laid there as still as possible. He stared at the ceiling and waited, he wasn't sure what was going on but everything was quiet, had he gone deaf? He couldn't hear anything. Sure he had noise canceling ear plugs in so he could sleep and not be awoken by the incessant hum of his refrigerator or the air conditioning something he could still hear on occasion. He couldn't even hear the loud sounds of his blood pumping or his own breathing. The idea terrified him, and where was the smell of his tea? That always woke him in the morning - he had it set on a timed percolator much like coffee which was far too brackish for his tastes. Yet no smell, nothing. It hadn't woken him up like it always did every day for the past several years. What was wrong with him?
Once the panic had settled in, he finally sat up deciding he needed to find out what was going on and see a doctor so he sat up and pulled out his ear plugs and that's when he heard it the sound of the plugs coming out of his ears but much more faint. He hadn't gone deaf? He quickly pulled out the other plug with the same results and that's when he heard things oh so faintly. The hum of his fridge sounding miles away and was that someone mowing their lawn? Where was it? Surely not next door a few blocks away!
Things progressed from there as Miles tried to figure out why things sounded so faint and distant. He was due at work over an hour and a half ago but that didn't matter to him at the moment there were more important issues to deal with such as the fact that he could not properly hear and that his tea did not wake him up.
That very day he went to the doctor, was told that he was fine and that there were more important matters to tend to than a man who had lost his abilities, there were people who had gained new ones and were on fires, burned or changed in far more complex and dangerous ways. He needed to be seriously injured to be considered a priority.
This did not sit well with Miles as he left in a huff sort of punched the door out of the office knocking it clean off it's hinges. He stared at it a moment and had to offer his information to the office for liability claims. Of course it didn't end there as he had gripped the wheel of his car so tightly he damaged that as well and that was in the shop now too. So it looked like he gained some sort of super strength, which was peachy!
Thus this was day three of his issues - he'd put in a leave of absence at work and was sleeping better but was thoroughly uncomfortable with a lack of his abilities, he hated them but he had grown used to them on some level and relied on them. Not to mention he had grown more hungry as of late, he usually didn't eat much as most foods were vial to him as he could taste a lot of individual ingredients. It was why he went a lot of times with whole foods that weren't blended or seasoned, Fruits vegetables, unseasoned meats, nothing extra on most things. It was a particular diet but it worked for him. Not things lacked flavor to him and it wasn't enough a lot of time. Not to mention what used to smell vial smelt amazing like the hamburger stand that was not far away. Usually that was a depot for overly heavy greases and oils but he didn't smell this at all. Just something good. What was happening to him? This never happened in England! Why was he cursed to America? Why him? It was the fault of the Americans (though technically he was one himself)! Still here he was standing in line to get one of these burgers because the smell was intoxicating and his stomach was ravenous, all the while there was a scowl on his face.
