Crashing Into You (Rylee)

Xun liked to go for a quick run before he practiced on most days; it helped get rid of some of the static tension that built up in his muscles over the course of a day due to his ability, and it was one of the best ways to get warmed up so he didn't injure himself when he went into more straining and risky movements, such as splits and jumps.  

He had his earbuds firmly tucked into his ears, as usual, while he ran; it helped him get through the mile or so run that he was going on, and usually kept people from bothering the socially awkward boy too much.  Of course, his typical (and accidental) resting bitch face might also be part of what kept people away, but he wouldn't know.

The song he was listening to faded and Xun looked down to flip through his playlist and find something else to put on.  He had put on a bit of extra speed since he was just finishing up his third lap around, and that plus the distraction of his music made him oblivious to the person running in front of him.  Before he knew what was happening, he managed to crash right into the person with his burst of speed and sent them both tumbling towards the ground; whether or not the other runner made a more graceful landing, Xun went sprawling across the turf, gasping and wide-eyed as he felt his knees and elbows scrape against the ground.  "Wo de tian na!" he sputtered, confused and flustered.  "Dui bu qi!  I'm sorry!"  

And his day had been going so well...

Rylee needed to run. Needed to do something. She missed playing sports so much and she wanted to sign up for everything at Hammel, but her power made sports so effortless for her now...it wasn't even that fun when you didn't have to put effort into it, give it all you got. That was one of the best parts about playing sports, the competition. And with her, there was none when her power was running the show.

She missed playing hockey in the streets with her brothers and not always winning. It was a different time, and that wasn't even that long ago. Things were so different now.

And so she'd settled on running, something that wouldn't be incredibly affected by her power. She was still looking for a trainer to get it under control. Maybe she could finally play sports again at some point without an unfair advantage.

She was on a mile run and she'd been at it for a while, Imagine Dragons playing through her headphones, coaxing her to keep going. However, everything came to a halt when someone collided into her from behind, almost as if they were tackling her. And her body did what it always did somehow almost like magic, she tucked and rolled, her body adapting to the situation. But when she landed slightly apart from the guy who had crashed into her, she saw that he'd actually suffered the consequences. "What were you doing? This isn't football!"

Ah man... Xun had just bought these new training pants yesterday! Not that that mattered as much as making sure the other person was alright, though, so Xun struggled to get onto his knees, apologizing repeatedly until he realized... She had come out of it a lot better than he had. "... You are not hurt?" he asked, staring incredulously at the girl who seemed a bit confused but unharmed. "I-I'm sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going, I did not mean to run into you..." His faintly accented voice was stammering nervously, a habit that often happened when he found himself in sudden awkward situations (they happened more than he wanted to admit). "No, I ah, I know it isn't football, I..."

Xun's face was flushed as he fell into flustered silence, and to distract himself, he looked down at his elbows, which had scraped against the ground enough so some of the skin was torn off. Not enough to bleed, though, fortunately. His knees were another issue. The Chinese boy pulled up his pants legs and grumbled. One knee was scraped similarly to his elbows, but the other was bleeding a little, since the fabric of his pants had ripped as well. "Ai-ya..." he mumbled. He looked up at the girl again with wonder. "How did you, ah, how did you fall so gracefully?" Xun asked, his curiosity overcoming his nerves. "I was so afraid I had hurt you..."

Rylee was crouching, having landed that way after she'd rolled and she just stared out into the distance for a moment, trying to process what had just happened so quickly. Her body adapted so fast that she couldn't even register what was was happening. One minute she was falling and then she was on her feet, right side up. When the guy that had crashed into her spoke to her, she turned to him. "I get it," she said, finally recovering. "You just weren't paying attention." She'd stood up to her full height, which unfortunately, wasn't much.

She watched as he examined his injuries. "Do you need to go to the nurse?" she asked, unsure of how bad they were, but seeing a glimpse of his knee. He was really in worse shape than she was. "Super agility." She shrugged, offering him a hand. "It paid me a visit about a month ago for the first time and I still hate it."

Xun blushed even more after the girl spoke. "Ah... No, I was not," he mumbled with guilt. He really got distracted so completely and so easily, it was no wonder this sort of thing happened more than it should. He tentatively started to get up as well, wincing as his joints complained. He was a good nine or ten inches taller than the girl, but that only meant he fell harder than he might have otherwise...

He glanced at the girl again when she asked if he needed the nurse's office, and Xun quickly shook his head as he gingerly rolled out his elbows and knees to make sure there wasn't any internal damage. "I think I'll be alright," he told her. "I don't think I pulled anything, fortunately." That was what he was worried about more than just some scratches; he got plenty of those on a regular basis. "Ahhh..." he breathed in understanding, taking her offered hand so he could stand up completely with a grateful nod. "It definitely came in handy now, though," Xun told her meekly. "I have, um, enhanced speed, so that might be part of the reason why I crashed into you so hard..." Oops. "I am Xun, by the way," he added, offering a belated hand back to shake. "You have only been here a month?"

"Oh well, wouldn't be a cliche start to my life here at a new high school unless a guy runs into me, right? I mean, at least I wasn't carrying any books and they didn't go everywhere. And I kind of ruined the cliche moment with my power anyway," Rylee explained, shrugging. She sent a grin in his direction. "Good. That can really put a damper on going for runs." When he pointed out that her power came in handy, she nodded. "Guess so. Although my back kind of hurts. So I guess that's explained by your super speed." It had been quite the crash and she moved to stretch as he spoke again.

"Yeah, not much. I got shipped off here, put in the wrong dorm and then I had to move dorms. And I'm kind of shit at making friends because I accidentally offend people. So I'm sorry if I've done so, already." She held out her hand to meet his. "Rylee." There were a lot of cute asian boys on this campus.

Xun blinked as the girl spoke, and it took him a moment to get the 'cliche' she was talking about (despite his ability, he could be really slow sometimes). He laughed and rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. "I-I suppose that's true," he replied, wishing he was more clever so he could think of something funny to say in return. "Still, I would rather that you weren't hurt than, ahh, having it be a cliche." Nope, not clever at all. He knew this and looked at the ground with embarrassment until Rylee spoke again. "It can," he agreed. Not to mention he probably would have had to take a couple days off of training. "Ah, I'm sorry!" he apologized again. "Do you need any ice or anything? I could run and get some if you need..." Xun just wanted to make it up to her.

"You were put in the wrong dorm?" he asked, eyes going wide with surprise. "That sounds, ahhh, unfortunate..." Xun wondered how that happened; it didn't seem like the Hammel staff would make that sort of mistake too often. "Oh, no, you haven't offended me," he reassured her, holding up his hands. "I'm usually too slow to get offended, ironically..." Xun took her hand with a firm grip and a tiny, shy smile. "I don't really have a lot of friends either, but... I am not against making new ones," he said with slight suggestion in his voice. She seemed nice enough, and Xun really should be attempting to have something of a social life... "Do you like food?" he asked, seemingly random. That was always a good quality in a friend, though.

"I'll be fine," Rylee said, waving it off. "I'm used to being sore anyway. I play a lot of sports." Well, played. Now she mostly just kicked a ball around by herself or wished someone would actually want to play hockey with her, despite her advantage. It wasn't her fault! Her injuries would be a lot worse from this fall though if she didn't have her power, so she supposed that much was good. He was in a lot worse shape. "I think you're the one who needs ice," she pointed out.

"Yeah...well, it wasn't too bad. I mean, nobody caused a power fuse with their hair dryer, straightner and hair curler. So, I had that going for me." She'd rather room with boys actually...for the most part. Some guys were just jerks, and she understood that, but in general, if guys were jerks, they were easier to handle than girls who were ruthlessly catty.

She wondered why he was calling himself slow, why he would think of himself that way, but it could be just to make a joke, like he had with having super speed as a power and all. "Then our friendship could possibly work. Because I tend to offend." She grinned at him and it only widened with his next question. "I love food. Seriously, it's the key to my heart."

"Oh, you do?" Xun asked, curiosity rising. "What sports do you play?" He only stuck to wushu for the most part, but he had an appreciation for all athletes, anyone that liked to use their body to do awesome things. Xun had the same problem as she, though - with his speed, it was hard to find people to spar with apart from Nao, who had the same ability. "Eh? Oh no, I'm fine, I promise," he assured her. "I will just go and wash out the cut that's bleeding and I should be alright." The Chinese boy was fairly confident that he wasn't injured any worse.

He giggled a bit at Rylee's optimism. "I have only lived in the boys dorms, so I guess I wouldn't know about any of that stuff," he chuckled. "Are you in the, um, co-ed dorms now?" Xun asked. "Maybe there would be less of a chance of those things happening there..." Fewer girls and all.

Seriously, when it came to social things or anything romantic, Xun was slow. He hadn't realized Cam had been flirting with him until the guy just kissed him out of the blue; he hadn't even had time to react before it was over. "I am sure we could be good friends," he agreed, straightening up a little in excitement. And she liked food!!! "Oh, good, because I do too," he gushed. If there were two things that could get Xun babbling, it was wushu and food. "What kind of food do you like? Would you like to go and get sushi and bubble tea sometime?" The Asian market and the bubble tea shop were close enough that that was a regular meal for the speedster. "I can't right now because I need to go and train but... We can soon!" If Rylee was still interested after seeing how spazzy he could be.

"Hockey is my favorite...let's just say that I'm waiting for winter," Rylee told him. "Although I play street hockey too. It's fun." Really, she enjoyed most sports. "It's just been a rough transition," she admitted. "One day my brothers were pissed because apparently I seemed ten times better at hockey than usual which was incredibly insulting because I'm good anyway." She felt the need to point that out. "I feel like all I've been doing since I got here is running and skateboarding...I hate the idea of cheating at a sport...and I want to join so many teams." She sighed. "Do you like sports?" SHe wa glad he was okay for the most part. He seemed rather unphased in general by the fall.

"Yeah, I requested co-ed...and somehow got put in the boys dorms. And I would have gotten away with it too..." she trailed off and laughed. "I won't finish that." So far, so good. Marcus was nice. A little weird and artsy fartsy, but nice.

"I would certainly hope you like food," she'd told him. "Peruvian food. It's the food of my people." She was half-Peruvian and enjoyed a lot of the dishes. She could even cook them pretty well, but she was sure Xun wouldn't understand that, so she'd listed some more. "And honestly, I just really like a good cheeseburger and fries too. Balances out the cultures...and I just like grease." She shrugged. No shame.

She had to admit that he was kind of adorable. Like a puppy. And Rylee had a tendency to latch onto people like that, because really, they tended to give her better outlooks on things when she tended to think the world was shit. "You're going to kill me...but I've never had sushi." So yes, she would like to go get sushi and if she had to, she'd suffer through a cup of tea, although she much preferred soda. "Train your power?" How did he train anyway? "Aren't you training right now? Running?" She was sort of amused at what she'd said. It was mostly a joke. But it was super speed! What else was he supposed to do?

"I'm holding you to this sushi outing."
