Oh, how the turn tables. (Lucas)

The circle of delinquency was a funny thing. It hadn't even been a decade since Josie had first set foot in Hammel as a student, and it wasn't long after that that she'd fucked up and earned herself yard duty or detention as punishment. Under supervision of one of the school's maintenance staff, she'd come to understand that failing to practice restraint would mean blistered palms, grimy fingernails, and a sore back. Spring of '11, she'd made it out ..only to end up right back in. Only this time, it was Josie doing the supervising.

She was a little skeptical about that decision, to put it mildly.

Yet here she was, hair held out of her face by a bandana, a pair of  gloves hanging from the pocket on her overalls, waiting. Waiting at the school's entrance for some jackassed little kid to turn up so she could put him to work.

Josie had been between tasks when she'd gotten a message from the doc that she'd be joined after classes by a boy named Lucas. Punishment for a fistfight, apparently. The déjà vu had made her laugh - something she didn't imagine the old man doing, but maybe he'd gotten a little amusement out of it. Who knew, she wasn't the mind reader.

It wasn't a fun day for him to go on a trip to his punishment, but Luke was pretty much forced by the high and mighty school guy. He also couldn't joke around without warranting some more punishment, or even pull pranks on the one punishimng him without being punished with something that was the worst type of punishment he had ever heard of. No, not a needle through his eyes, not his thumbs being screwed off or his nails being plucked out. No, Sean had threatened with much worse. He'd be secluded and prohibited from what he loved most; girls. He wouldn't be allowed any conntact with them and to Luke that was as serious as music.

He walkked down to the entrance of the school and saw a silhouette of what he assumed was the one responsible for his punishment. It looked like a woman figure, just as Sean he told him it woould be. But instead of what he was expecting he saw a figure he would gladly handle. He tried to get that thought out of his head as it could mean him more wrong than right. And as the silhouette gained some definition the thought faded as quick as snow before the sun.

''Miss Raines?'' He asked as he got closer, thinking back of the janitor-lady he had scared off before. Why'd it have to be her..?

Some people were terrible at remembering faces, others had a memory like a steel trap. Josie? Josie's specialty was recognizing people who'd pissed her off. And this was a very recognizable face that had just come ambling up.

"Well, well, well," she said, drawing each word out, not bothering to stifle a wicked smile. So this was Lucas Blacke. She wasn't exactly happy to see him again. Oh no - after the stunt he'd pulled last time, Josie just as soon would've had him vanish from her life entirely. But if it had to happen, well, no better time than now, when she had a little authority, right? "Welcome to detention, Mister Blacke."

"So here's the deal, kiddo," Josie began, as she boosted off the wall to stand before him. "Once the show's over and you've put in the work, I gotta give a report to the doc. Let him know you showed up an' if you're gettin' properly rehabilitated, right? And y'know, I don't really like to snitch, but the doc's a mind reader. Even if I wanted to cover your ass by lying I can't. So save yourself the trouble and behave yourself, all right?"

After their previous run-in, Josie's expectations of the boy weren't all that high. But he looked a little cowed already, so maybe she could keep him in line after all.

Especially with the threat of Dr. Neville hanging over his head - that usually did the trick.

Luke let out a sigh. On one side it was kind of nice to have someone talk to him like that, as she had done before, he realized soon enough, as it opened the way for lots of jokes. But on the flipside, she was a woman, and one in charge of his detention. And already having noted that this Sean guy could read minds due to joking with it a bit earlier, he decided it'd be in his best interest not to make jokes for once. He wanted to sooo badly, bjut he also wanted to keep seeing girls, and that meant treading on his toes around her.

''I guess..'' He stammered with his jaws clenched, kicking a lost pebble away out of anger. Boy, this would suck donkey balls. At least he could retort mentally, that would be a good thing to keep in mind. But the fun part was not the joke itself, but the reaction to it. Maybe with some time he could joke around her without it blowing up in his face.

His eyes went over how she looked, how she stood and how she acted.. Boy, she was not going to make this easy for him, was she? ''What ya gonna make me do?'' He sighed, not bothering to look at her further or even call her by her name, it was just gonna make him joke around, and he didn't want that.

''Potting plants? Planting your stash of weed? Remove that stick up your ass? Note that you make me think of the teenage mutant ninja turtles?'' His mind was beginning the stream of jokes. Fun.

It took all Josie had not to cackle at the sight of him, kicking rocks, barely a word making it out of his clenched teeth. He didn't look like he felt so tough now... like a little kid who got caught stealing a candy bar and dragged back into the store by a furious mother tugging on his ear. Beautiful.

"We're workin' outside today," she told him. "Follow me." This was why she'd chosen to wait at the school's main entrance - it was a quick walk out to the tool shed, but if she'd told him to meet him there he could've easily pulled a "well I didn't show up because I couldn't find it!!" move. Which, hey, it wasn't her problem if the kid ditched his punishment and suffered consequences later. But he was here, so it was time to go.

"Hope you're plenty rested up, because we've got our hands full today," Josie said, as she led him on a stroll down the lawn towards the shed. "The weeds have gotten outta control since that last big rain we had, so we're gonna be tackling the gardens. I don't trust you with a weedwhacker so we're doin' it the old-fashioned way. And if you work quick, we can get some mulch spread." Lucas wasn't the first student she'd had to take to work for detention, and pulling weeds was her favorite job to give out. Personally she didn't mind it anymore, but it sure seemed like the least popular option, given how much the kids liked to complain about it.

Somewhere along the stroll he thought about what Raines would have him do, and funnily enough he thought it would be fun. It was new, he wouldn't be able to do it by using his power as no two spots were the same. It would take a good multitude of years to be able to do it from memory.

When she told him they'd be working outside she began moving without taking a moment for him to respond. Not that he would anyway, he figured it was easier at this point to just think everything he was about to say than to actually voice it and risk being seperated from women. He started to move and started walking next to the walking stick.

He eyed the surroundings of the school as they moved forwards, it was nothing he hadn't seen before but the yard was pretty quiet now and that was something he'd rarely seen. He liked it. He looked at the woman next to him briefly and instantly averted his eyes when she looked at him, last thing he wanted was to have that be seen as some form of harassment.

At the question if he was rested up he nodded slightly as the woman added they'd have lots to do since that rain.. Rain? Luke didn't know what she was talking about, not the specifics, anyway. Probably something people who worked outside really noticed. So, no weedwhacker, just old-fashioned work. He assumed that involved him using his hands. He was going to get dirty for sure.

When she mentioned his last name in a question about him doing garden work he shook his head, saying as little as possible. ''I haven't.''

Oh, this was delicious. The kid couldn't even look her in the eye. Every trace of his smarmy attitude had vanished. Either he was just that repulsed by physical labor or the doc had really gotten to him.

"Well, whatever," Josie replied with a dismissive shrug. "It's not rocket science - if you screw it up it'll be 'cause you're lazy."

Their path took them towards the training field, where the tool shed stood next to the chain link fence. Josie dug into the pocket of her overalls for her key ring and unlocked it; inside, the shed was crammed with tools. That wasn't what she was here for, though.

"I didn't have a lotta time to run out here before you showed up, so I only have the one pair of gloves," she told Lucas. A few pairs of heavy cloth gloves hung from the wall; Josie snatched up a pair and tossed them to him. "Here."

She spoke to him about fucking it up, he'd done that so many times before that if he did it this time it'd be no real surprise. He'd hate it, but he was expecting it and just trying to avoid the inevitable moment where a reply gone wrong left his mouth. In any case, he wouldn't be lazy and he could assure her of that if that couldn't be seen as some form of harassment also. He was sure she would take the chance to shut him up a bit longer, and frankly, he deserved it.

When she opened the tool shed they had arrived at with some key that she got out of her overalls, ''So that is clothing.'' he felt the need to say something out of awe, and it took a portion of his stenghth to keep it in as he just sighed a bit as he looked into the shed. So many buttons to push..

Though that seemed not to be why they were there, she got his attention and said something about gloves, about having only one pair. Luke was expecting her to keep the one pair just to rile him up so he didn't quite expect a flying pair of gloves smacking him softly against the face.

''Thank you sir! May I have another, sir!'' He blurted out as he saluted the woman. He instantly threw both his hands ovver his mouth though and stepped back a bit, shaking his head.

"Theeere it is!" The comment itself was fairly harmless, especially compared to the shit he'd spewed last time, but mostly Josie was just amused by how horrified the kid looked with himself. "You were holdin' it in so tight you were startin' to look constipated."

Well, he had his gloves now; Josie pulled on the ones she'd had dangling from another pocket and turned her attention to retrieving a pair of trowels.

"All right, that's all we need here," she told him, before locking the shed back up. "Now get movin', Private Pyle."

If he wanted her to turn detention into boot camp, she would do it. Most days Josie cared more about getting her job done than making sure the little snowflakes learned their lesson, but she could make an exception for Lucas Blacke. Next stop: The shrubbery that lined the front walk.

So he had let a comment slip. Nothing bad, right? He hoped it wasn't or doctor high and mighty would come down on him like an elephant on a peanut. And he refused being a peanut even if his brain tended to seem to be one from time to time.

Well, the damage had been done, no reason to keep quiet now, right? Besides, he was sure of his ability to think of harmless jokes, and not jokes aimed at miss Charon. ''Private Pyle?'' He asked as she said they had all they needed when all she'd gotten was a pair of trowels. ''Who's private Pyle?'' As he said that he very nearly rolled his eyes. ''Like piling it on? Clever.''

When he followed her a bit it became obvious what he needed to do in this session of detention; he needed to kiss some serious ass. Or work. Either, or. They got to a shrubbery and halted, almost causing him to bump into Raines. ''Whu..-'' He started to utter as he was able to stop himself in time from rearing her. That one would surely earn him some alone time. He wondered what he would need to do as he eyed the shrubbery before them.

''Are we gonna fight the knights who say ni?''

Josie snorted with derision but didn't bother correcting him. If Lucas didn't get it because he'd never seen Full Metal Jacket, that was his problem. This was detention, not cinema appreciation class. If he wanted pretend he got it when he obviously didn't, that was also his problem. At this point, Josie's comments were for her own amusement rather than his enlightenment.

When she stopped at the first spot they'd be tending to, the kid came a little too close before slamming on the brakes. Josie shot him a dirty look; he was doing a semi-convincing job passing it off as an accident, but she didn't want him getting any ideas.

“On second though, maybe go back to not sayin' anything,” she told him. That was all she needed – a barrage of quotes from what had to be the most parroted movie ever made. Better to nip that shit in the bud.

“All right, see those little guys sproutin' by the edge there?” Josie asked, pointing to the smaller plants near where the mulch met the grass. Ordinarily she would kneel and demonstrate, but there was no way she was getting on her knees while Lucas was still standing. “You gotta get in there and grip it low on the stem so you can get at the roots without just yankin' it in half.”

''I tried not sayin' anything.. didn't suit me.'' He replied as he slid on the gloves, perfectly fitting each finger in the right place on the first go where most would have to refumble a bit. ''I'll try ta keep the movie quotes to a minimum.'' He added. He would, but keeping his mouth shut was a terrible idea to begin with as it just began overloading his mind with things to say.

When she continued talking and pointing at the plants near the grass and the plants and the green and the- Luke paid her attention as best he could, but he knew he'd end up ruining shit. And this time he'd be ruining the entire school, so it'd be one for the books. He nodded at her like a good little monkey and would try his best to follow what she said. Not that it would be easy since she somehow decided to just tell him instead of showing him. Probably to make sure he wasn't going to make any dirty comments. He wasn't going to, whatever the doctor told him haunted him a bit too much to risk anything sexual.

''But..'' He started a reply as he squatted down beside the plants she was pointing at. ''If we need to get the roots of these things why can't we just dig 'em out or something? Surely we have these shovelly things for a reason.'' He assumed as he pointed at the trowels she had gotten.
