Lord, what a beautiful day. Clear skies, balmy breezes, not terribly hot but just enough that you appreciated it when you hit the shade. Sophie couldn't have asked for better weather for the town faire, especially with the wide brim of her festively flowery straw hat to protect her from sunburn. Under the roof of the open floor pavilion now, the hat wasn't exactly necessary, but playing emcee wouldn't be quite as much fun without it. As a result, Sophie was looking particularly jaunty as she took the stage, a noticeable bounce in her step as the strode to the mic.
"Good afternoon, everybody! Y'all enjoyin' the festivities?" Sophie asked with a broad grin, exaggerating her Southern drawl for theatricality, pausing to let the crowd make its noise. Not a bad turnout this year, she was pleased to see. "Excellent! Well ah hope y'all are up for some quality entertainment, because we've got quite the lineup for you this year."
"Now, as y'all probably know, durin' the talent show we prefer to showcase talents that our performers have worked hard to master, rather than the ones that appear overnight," Sophie told the crowd. The show was open to non-metas, after all. "However, this year we're makin' an exception."
Taking the mic from its stand, Sophie scooted to the side as a projection screen descended from the ceiling; the sort for playing films, or in this case, projecting a photo of an '04 Buick with a shiny red paint job.
"This beauty was very kindly donated to us by Hartford and Sons Junk and Tow. Now, y'all might be think' this is some kinda prize, but that ain't quite true. No, the good fellas over at Hartford and Sons sent it our way and have promised to donate one thousand dollars to help fund next year's faire on one condition: ah hafta finish the whole thing before the end of the show."
Right on cue, the screen receded and the stage curtains swung aside - gotta love those backstage volunteers - and revealed a table tucked towards the back, piled with scrap metal and several bottles of barbecue sauce.
"Now, y'all don't go losin' your minds, ah've been told that the poor thing was totalled beyond repair," Sophie assured the crowd, once the gasps and stray "what in the hell"'s subsided. "For the duration of the show ah'll be back here chowin' down, an' we'll see if ah can manage the whole thing."
"Now without further ado, please welcome our first act!" Returning the mic to its stand, Sophie took her place at the table and tucked a comically large napkin into the neckline of her dress. Talk about quality entertainment.
((This isn't really a pre-planned event, so if you want to have a character sing or dance or whatever, hop right in. If you want to have a character in the crowd, go for it. Have fun!))
