Powers: Dream Walking/ Manipulation - Overall, Talia's power is quite straight forward. She is able to enter other people's dreams. She can do this through several methods. The simplest is through touch. If she touches someone while they are sleeping, she is able to enter their dreams with very little effort. She can also seek out another's dreams either by proximity or familiarity. It is relatively simple to enter the dreams of those nearby, but further distance requires a bond or familiarity with the individual to be able to seek them out. If she consciously uses her power, she falls into a meditative state while she is in the dream.
Having mastered her ability training, it is little surprise that she has great control over her abilities. However, that being said, dreams are controlled by one's subconscious, which means that her powers are subject to her own. While she is asleep her power can act of its own accord. This is rare and generally connected to her emotions. If she has deep-seated emotions that still trouble her when she goes to sleep, her power can send her into other's dreams. This usually relies on proximity, unless the emotion is tied to a specific person. Likewise, if a certain person is heavily on her mind when she falls asleep, her subconscious may seek out that individual's dreams.
She also is able to manipulate dreams to a certain extent. She describes it more as giving the dream a nudge in a certain direction, generally changing rather minor things, like the scenery. Ultimately, its a battle of will. Generally her will is stronger since it is a conscious choice on her part, but sometimes the dreamer's will is the stronger of the two and her influence is ignored.
Whenever she purposefully uses her power, slipping into the required meditative state results in either restless sleep or insomnia that night for her. Subconscious dream walking generally has a side effect of fatigue, making it so that when she wakes, she still feels quite tired as though she hasn't gotten enough sleep. Attempts to manipulate another's dream causes a headache at best, and if she makes too many alterations to the dream or has to fight particularly hard to make said changes, that headache can become a terrible migraine or even result in a slight nosebleed. Her power also leaves her vulnerable. If she enters the dreams of someone who is properly trained, they are able to access her own dreams and mind as well.

General Appearance: Talia has very strong features. Her heart shaped face and prominent cheekbones make for a striking appearance. Her skin is fair, but with a warm undertone, and she tans fairly easily when in the sun. She has always felt that her nose is just a touch too large, though she loves her full lips. Her eyes are a bright amber shade of brown and are framed by arched eyebrows that add an intensity to her eyes. Her hair is naturally a dark brown, though she has been known to dye it a lighter, warmer shade on occasion. She wears it at a medium length and though her hair is naturally straight, she often styles it with beachy waves.
Talia is quite tall for a female - standing at 5'10" - and this is clearly shown in her build, particularly her long legs. As such, she has a rather slender frame. Though she is by no means particularly athletic, she is fairly active which helps her maintain her figure. She prefers to dress in sundresses, but given the weather, often ends up in jeans and a jacket instead. Her attire typically is more on the simple side, though she like to dress up, though she rarely has a reason to. She also typically wears flats - she's conscious enough about her height as it is, no need to go calling more attention to it.
Personality: The first thing one is likely to notice about Talia is her charisma. She is very much the social butterfly and always has been. When she was younger she was always at the center of a crowd or the life of the party. She is very much an extrovert and thrives off her interactions with people. Because of this, she generally seeks out social situations or interactions with people she meets. She has a very bubbly persona which generally people either find charming or annoying.
She is very much a confident woman, though this was not always the case. Through her teen years, she certainly seemed every bit as confident now, but in truth it hid many insecurities. The philosophy of fake it til you make it has certainly worked for her though since after years of feigning confidence, it finally became truth - though not without some heartache to fuel it along. That being said though, nowadays, her confidence it readily apparent. She has stopped living her life to please others and has finally begun to live it to please herself.
She is also something of a flirt and enjoys getting a little male attention, especially if he can keep up with her wit. She has been called a tease though since she is not particularly promiscuous. Deep at heart, she is a romantic, believing in love and even to some extent fate. She wants that whole fairytale romance even if its something she has begun to think she won’t find.
Though she does have a tendency to speak without thinking which can certainly result in some ruffled feathers, Talia is a compassionate person. She hates to see someone in pain and always tries her best to be supportive of those in her life. She is sensitive in that her emotions run deep and she is more easily wounded than she seems. However, though she tries, sometimes she can come off a little insensitive to others, making quips about unpleasant situation a little too soon for them to be appreciated.
Creativity is important to Talia and a very significant aspect of who she is. She is a painter and that is what she loved more than anything. Her artistic nature has taught her to be observant, utilizing the world around her for inspiration in her work. She can be a bit easily distracted by these inspirations though. This extends beyond her art though, as she has a tendency to operate in unorthodox manners, using her creativity to find unusual approaches to otherwise difficult situations.
Talia is a very passionate person. She feels things deeply and is known to throw herself into matters with perhaps a little too much enthusiasm too quickly. Particularly with people, she makes a conscious effort to correct this tendency as it has gotten her in trouble before, so she can come off as a bit guarded and hard to read when she attempts to practice this restraint. The downside is that she can be a bit obsessive, particularly in regards to her art. Any Other Important People: NoneHistoryTalia was born the third and final child of the Spencer family. That meant that while she was doted on quite a lot in her family, she also had a lot of expectations to live up to. She had an elder sister and brother, both of whom excelled at meeting their parents' lofty standards. Still, as she grew up, Talia always tried. Yet things did not come as easily to her as they did to her siblings. She was always more artistic in nature than she was logical, something her family never fully understood. Still, they encouraged her to explore art - after all, that was part of being well-rounded.
Overall, Talia had few complaints with her childhood. She was always a social child and so she had many friends. She struggles more in school, but she managed to do relatively well, better than most, and she was a talented artist with a great deal of potential.
Then when she was 12, everything changed.
It seemed so innocent at first. She was sleeping, dreaming when suddenly the dream changed. She was with her sister at her graduation. Her sister was delivering her speech when suddenly everyone started laughing at her. Then the dream changed again, and she was with her brother, watching as he won first place at the track meet. The whole night went like this, her dreams changing from family member to family member.
It didn't seem odd until the next morning when her whole family was talking about the strange dreams they had had. Dreams that sounded extremely familiar to young Talia. It happened more and more frequently the next 5 nights until someone arrived at their house. He explained that Talia was special - she was a meta - and he wanted to take her to a school where she could learn how to control her power.
While she was at Hammel, Talia thrived. The distance from her parents gave her the freedom to relax and learn and the separation from her siblings allowed her to be herself rather than trying to keep up with them. Just as before, she was incredibly popular at school, always surrounded by friends. It was a great time for her. The stress began when she was 18 and graduating though. She had gotten into several great art schools. But her parents refused. They insisted that she needed a practical degree - and that was the only degree they were going to pay for.
In the end, Talia caved, unable to get the finances together on her own. She returned home to Wisconsin to attend the state university. There was much dispute over a major, but finally she was able to sell her parents on the communications major. It wasn't what she really wanted to be doing, but she had always been good with people, and it was a versatile degree at least. The next 4 years dragged on and on, yet eventually she graduated - even managing to graduate with honors.
It was shortly after her graduated that a friend set her up on a blind date with some friend of her brother. Talia had low hopes, yet she and Michael hit it off and soon they were an item. He was an up and coming businessman while she was just trying to find some solid ground to stand on.
By the time she was 24, they were engaged and living together. Talia had found an entry level job at a marketing firm and it seemed things were finally falling into place. Until one night when she accidentally slipped into Michael's dreams. That was how she found out that he had been cheating on her, with none other than one of her close friends. She was hurt and upset - even more so when she confronted him and he didn't seem to even care.
That was the final straw for her. She had tried being who everyone else wanted her to be... now she was going to do what she wanted for the first time in her life.
That decision saw her returning to Vermont, and to Hammel. She could have gone anywhere, but there was something reassuring about returning somewhere where there was history. Hammel was where she had first begun to find herself. Now it was the place she hoped to succeed in doing so.
Talia got a job at Hammel as a receptionist and began focusing on her art outside of work. She wasn't looking for a career - she just wanted something to pay the bills so she could focus on her true love, her art. She was happy - the happiest she had been in a long long while if she was being honest. It was during this time that she finally was able to overcome her insecurities about not being good enough and learn to love exactly who she was.
