Annual Boys v. Girls Snow War! (2014)(Open to all!)

Whomever started this particular tradition at Hammel is long gone now. However, the weather decided to dump a good couple of inches of snow on the second weekend in December. And that means it is time for the annual boys vs. girls snow war. (Characters with non-binary genders can join any team they like.) Though it is intended just for the students, it isn't unheard-of for staff members to join in the melee.

By all means, enjoy yourselves.

This event will be closed on January 31. This thread is not eligible for Thread of the Month. It is a party thread, so do not worry about post order, so long as you have something to respond to. (And get people involved! Throw snow at characters you haven't met yet!)

The Annual Boys vs. Girl Snow War was something Kailin had participated in every year. No matter how old she was or no matter how hurt she was feeling, the now brunette made her way to the place where it all goes down.

Nobody had made it thus far, but Kailin made it her mission to come early. She always was early.

So, as tradition held, Kailin wore her favorite coat and gloves for the occasion. She crouched down then, attempting to collect snow in her hand, compacting the soft precipitation with a gentle smile.

It had been a few weeks since she had decided to dye her hair and change herself through and through, but even the girl found it a struggle to stray away from the things she loved the most. Being a child. Enjoying herself in the most innocent of ways, if finding joy in beaming someone in the face with a large mass of snow was deemed innocent.

Kailin laughed at the thought.

Alexei knew about the snowball fight that was held every year. He’s never been able to join though. It seemed that every year something happened that became the cause of his absence. It was irritating, to say the least. He wanted to have fun and so he made sure that this time there was nothing that could stop him from attending the event.

He wore his winter clothes—a dark shirt, a black fur-lined jacket, gloves, jeans and combat boots. The attire was also quite similar to one of his favorite anime characters. It was great.

He came to the location on the appointed time, observing that someone was already there and waiting. The said person was already making a snow ball with a small smile on her face. Well, the event was a boys vs. girls event after all. Alexei figured it couldn’t help but start already.

He crouched down and made his own snow ball fast before he could be noticed by the other person. Grinning at his work, he threw the snow ball at the unsuspecting target. He watched as the snow hit before cheering and pumping his fist in the air.

Oh man, a snowball fight. The boy stood in the snow, wearing as many layers as he could. Kaiser couldn't stand the cold but still, he found himself out in the middle of this war. Why? Well, he was hoping maybe he could make a few friends out here. It seemed like maybe they could…bond or something over throwing snow balls. That's if Kaiser didn't freeze to death first.

The boy bent down, rolling some snow into a ball, well he supposed he should actually participate if he was going to be out here. He turned his head, looking for anyone to toss the frozen sphere at. Huh, guess everyone was hiding. "Oh!" He exclaimed as the boy watched another toss a snowball at a girl. Well, it was boys vs girls, right? The kid quickly moved over to the other male's side and grinned. "Nice shot!" Kaiser went to throw his snowball, but all the extra layers of clothing prevented him from moving his arm enough to have the snowball actually fly far enough to hit anyone. He watched it fall a few feet away from the girl. "Crap…"

“No hard feelings!” Alexei shouted at the girl, suddenly remembering to at least say sorry. It was then that another boy approached him with a compliment on his shot. “Oh, thanks!”

He watched as the other boy tried to throw his snow ball but failed in that attempt. Alexei laughed in a friendly manner and gave him a pat on the shoulder. “Don’t worry. You’ll get it.” He grinned at the other. “Maybe, you should ditch some of the layers of your clothes. It will make it easier, I swear.”

Realizing that he has not introduced himself yet, he offered a hand to the other as well as a smile. “I’m Alexei. You can call me Al or Alec. You are?”

The girl wasn't expecting anyone to show up so early, and she most certainly not expecting to feel the sting of a snowball on her side. Kailin shot up as the mixture of cold and slight pain erupted against her side, and that was when she saw the culprit, another figure making his appearance as well.

Didn't this remind her of something.

Kailin had a pair of twin brothers, about a year younger than her (10 months if you asked them), and so she was very capable of handling her own while being double teamed. However, when the new figure made his throw, it fell short and Kailin couldn't help but laugh - to herself, of course.

The newly dyed brunette took her compact snowball and threw while they were both distracted, hitting the first boy in revenge for his initial hit. "None taken! Nice shot!" Because truly it was, but Kailin had phenomenal aim, if only because her target practices had been so unruly in the first place.

[Nora Marie "Nory" Gwinn]

“That was pathetic,” came a delighted voice from up above them. This was followed by a shuddering sound, then two or three feet of accumulated snow falling from a tree branch roughly above the boys' heads.

Nory had skipped class to come wait in this tree. People did not walk underneath snow-laden branches nearly as often as they should. But impulsiveness does not necessarily equate impatience, and the almost transcendental, sheer Looney-Tunes beauty of the upturned faces was worth every numb digit and frozen butt cheek. Nory cackled with glee and scrambled to the next branch up. “We've got to pin 'em down, Kailin!” she called as she scraped more snow together. “Crossfire from the—umph!”

She nearly swallowed a snowball that zipped up through the branches like a squirrel and buried itself in her mouth. She sputtered it out and cried, “Hey--pbthp--telekinesis is cheating!” as she crawled around the other side of the trunk, sending more snow raining down in the process. The whistle of snowballs was quickly drawing more people, and Nory grinned as she spotted Elizabeth, one of the cryokinetics. “Unless you're on the girls' team!”

Alexei cursed as a snowball hit him followed right away by a rain of snow from up above. Oh god, they were under siege. This wasn’t good. He laughed as he shook the snow from his form. He grinned at the girls before shouting, “Oh, it’s on! Get ready to be owned by none other than yours truly!”

With that, he crouched making his own snow balls and throwing them on his targets. One to the girl on the tree and the other one was thrown towards his initial target. He grabbed a couple more of snow and began a barrage of attacks on the girls.

He ran for cover in case anyone decided to attack him in retaliation. “Come on,” he shouted to the other boy, waiting for him to follow. In his head, Alexei was already drafting plans like he usually did when he’s playing his video games. Games weren’t all about winning and he truly was having fun but there was always something better about besting an opponent.

When the other boy mentioned something about removing layers Kaiser shook his head. "I'd freeze out here if I did that!" The boy smiled when the other introduced himself. "Kaiser here, most people just call me Kai though." He went to shake his hand but the falling snow from above quickly took his attention. "Oh crap!" He yelped as the cold powder fell on his body.

Kaiser followed after Alexei, trying his best to throw his own snowballs at their attackers. "Sorry I'm not really good at this! We don't get a lot of snow where I'm from! This is kinda new to me!" He said, as he tossed another snowball towards one of the girls. "You're really good though!"

[Nora Marie "Nory" Gwinn]

Her shower of snow did not go unreturned, and Nory ducked around several snowballs that sailed between the branches. "Ha ha! You're going to have to try better than--"

The foot wedged in a crook of the trunk slipped. Nory cried out in surprise, and the next thing she knew she was lying on her back in a snowdrift. For a moment she couldn't get any air, and panic spiked as she heaved for breath. The shock of having the wind knocked out of her lasted only for a moment, and she heaved a lungful of cold air and powder. She coughed, then laughed. "Okay, you got me."

Alexei grinned at Kai after the compliment on his snow throwing skills. "That's what happens when you have an older brother who tries to ambush you every winter." Alexei said with a laugh. It was true. He often played with his brother as a child.

"Don't worry. You'll get the hang of it," He told the other boy.

He got another snowball ready to throw to the girls when he heard a thump and suddenly the girl on the tree had fallen. He winced instinctively, knowing that it must have hurt to fall from that height. Just as he was debating going closer in case she sustained any injuries, the girl had laughed and conceded that they got her. Well, she was okay, then.

Alexei called out to her, "Be careful! We don't want any injuries in this game."
