In the past twenty-five years, Sean Neville had not only become an institution at Hammel but an institution in Pilot Ridge as a whole. He had met so many people over the decades: neighbors, coworkers, family members of former students, former students themselves, employees of all of the local businesses, local politicians whose campaigns he had supported...
One could not be as friendly and affable as Sean was, could not meet that many different people over such a long period of time, without making connections. As a psychiatrist, he could not have helped as many people as he had over the decades without earn the gratitude of some other people.
Fortunately, one of those people was Russell Sands, who had promised Sean assistance with future endeavors and who had invested in Josh’s Town Council campaign the year before. Russell lent money for small businesses, and he had assisted the telepath with navigating what he needed to navigate, as well as providing him with a building to lease. Between Sean’s savings and his near-perfect credit rating, he had been able to get the loans approved that he required.
From there, it had been a matter of hiring construction crews to assist with renovating the building, and using his good friend Greg Strickland’s architectural knowledge to assist with the design process.
And finding employees.
Spring provided good weather for the construction, which made the whole process go faster. The telepath used his other connections to find employees one at a time.
Bit by bit, his plan came to fruition, and, eventually, Sean unveiled his master plan.
The Robert Hopkins Memorial Academy.
A school for meta-human students on the other side of Pilot Ridge from Hammel.
Specifically, a school for the more sensitive meta-human students who needed a more liberal atmosphere without the risks of being around some of the more aggressive students. One that would fund themselves through other channels and would not find themselves beholden to a Board of Trustees.
One that Sean could run according to his own beliefs about student needs.
One where he would never have to deal with students trying to kill each other.
One named after the man to whom he owed nearly everything in his life.
He hoped to do Robert proud.
