The BasicsName: Dr. Robert Ian Terrell
Nicknames: Rob, Robby (from when he was younger – only his sisters use it now, and sometimes his mother), Elsa (Lily started this and he still doesn’t think it’s funny)
Age: 40
Orientation: Homosexual
Desired Rank/Job: Local – General surgeon at Maddock, with a special interest in orthopedics
Powers: Cryokinesis. He can make and manipulate ice, though as a downside his body temperature is naturally below normal, and his extremities are almost always cold to the touch.
Play By: Ewan McgregorThe DetailsHair Color: Mostly brown, though it lightens to almost dirty blond in the summer, with a few greys mixed in now
Eye Color: Blue
Any Piercings? None
Any Tattoos? Rod of Asclepius on the inside of his left wrist in dark blue. He got it the same week he graduated medical school.
Any Scars? A faint one that mostly disappears into his hairline. He got into a fistfight in a bar when he was 23 and ended up on the receiving end of several stitches, as well as a solid lecture.
General Appearance: Rob isn’t hugely intimidating in terms of appearance. He stands at 5’11”, with a relatively slender build, though his arms and legs are quite toned from a combination of running and light weight training when he can fit it in. His face always has a layer of scruff on it, the density all dependent on how long his shifts have run, how much stress he’s been under, and how much sleep he’s gotten.
At work he switches between scrubs when he’s actually in surgery, and a lab coat. Under the lab coat, Rob has expensive tastes. During his down time in his office or out on rounds to check on and meet with patients, he is always dressed in a collared shirt and tie, usually paired with dark slacks.
At home he still has expensive tastes, it just translates more to designer label jeans, t-shirts, and sweaters. He has a fondness of leather gloves and jackets, especially in the winter months.
Though he isn’t much for jewelry, there are two pieces he always wears. One is his Rod of Asclepius necklace that Mitch gave him, and the other is his wedding band.
Personality:Those who don’t know Rob well often view him as somewhat distant, blunt, and sometimes downright difficult. He can be snappy at times, usually when things aren’t going his way, or if he’s under pressure or stress. This usually becomes most apparent in the surgery suite, when he is barking orders or having to step back and accept that what he is trying to do isn’t working. When he gets frustrated, his temper can be quick to rise, and slow to recede. This doesn’t make working with him easy by any means, but he’s good at what he does, and everyone is well aware of this. Rob doesn’t like to gloat about it, because his skills and results tend to speak for themselves.
A lot of Rob’s feelings are often tucked behind a mask at work. He feels things quite deeply, but it’s difficult to stay uninvolved and neutral when you’re emotionally falling apart at every patient something happens to. He’s learned it’s easier to put a lock on the feelings box. The trouble is, he often leaves it locked until things spill over. Mitch is generally one of the few people he lets his guard down around, and some days goes so far as to ask him for a charged crystal to help him deal with whatever he might be feeling at the time. At least it’s better than smoking or drinking, like some of his coworkers do.
Despite appearing fairly closed off to his coworkers, Rob tries to be as gentle and approachable with his patients as possible. This doesn’t mean he engages his feelings box, but rather just changes gears from distant to being more open. He wants them to be comfortable with him, and he knows acting like he doesn’t care isn’t the way to achieve that. Because he honestly does care.
Rob is most open with Mitchell, at home and away from most of his stressors. He loves his job, but he also knows it takes a toll on him mentally. Being with Mitch is like hitting a reset button. He almost reverts to a teenage-like mentality most often, being playful, loving, and above all, protective. Mitch is his world, and no one crosses him without having to stare down an irate husband that isn’t opposed to rearranging your face.
He also carries a sizeable amount of guilt around over the fact he failed in saving Mitch’s leg, and sometimes he hates himself just a little over it. When he sees Mitch happy, it’s easier to dismiss. But if he’s struggling with something that should be simple... he’s back to letting guilt eat away at him.Your VicesLikes:

- Snakes
- Tawney. Not that he'd ever ADMIT IT. But those constant 'I'm going to tell Mitch you made an intern cry if you don't apologize RIGHT NOW' threats tend to keep him in line.
Secret:
As much as he loves Mitch, he is very worried that one day he will snap and say the wrong thing to drive him away for good.
While he knows Mitch knows he feels a lot more than he lets on, most of his coworkers likely think he is akin to a robot emotionally. This is the opposite of true when he is around Mitch.
Being unable to save Mitchell’s leg made him feel like the biggest failure in the world. He tried to save it, and had an extremely difficult time accepting that it was impossible. He still carries that guilt, regardless of the fact that it was unavoidable, and he more or less saved Mitch’s life by doing it.

Douglas and Marie Terrell met in university, Douglas in medical school training to be a doctor, while Marie was studying nursing. The two began to date, and eventually wound up working at the same hospital once both had graduated. After finding their feet out in the real world, the two married, and just a year later welcomed Robert into their lives. He was soon joined by two younger sisters – first Corrine, then Lily. He took to his sisters in a curious way, more interested in making sure their mother knew when they were upset, and as they grew, protecting them from neighbourhood bullies. This often resulted in time outs and periods of being grounded for scrapping with the bigger boys, but in Rob’s mind, he was doing the right thing. His sisters were safe, and that was all he wanted.
Rob was often a stubborn child, digging his heels in when he didn’t want to do something, and pitching a fit when that didn’t work. Even early on, his mouth tended to get him into trouble, and was met with soap more than once for mouthing off. For as stubborn as he could be, he was also attentive when it came to things he was interested in. From early on he had a love of information, and soaked things up like a sponge. He especially liked listening to his parents talk about their days at the hospital at dinner time. It was interesting and exotic and from when he was very young, he knew he wanted to be just like his father.
In school he studied hard, his grades reflecting the work he put in. His grades were matched only by the sheer number of detentions and lines he had to do to make up for everything from minor to major scraps with other boys, usually caused by simple schoolyard teasing, often directed at his sisters. In time, Rob learned to check his temper to keep him from going off on the others so often, but not until after he’d suffered through numerous detentions, not to mention lectures from teachers and parents alike.
By the time he was thirteen, he was caring less about what the other boys were doing in terms of teasing, as most of them had learned not to mess with him, however he was realizing he was paying them more attention in a different way. A way he was fairly certain he wasn’t supposed to be doing. In an effort to ignore it, he tried to shove it back down and pretend it wasn’t there in the first place. Boys didn’t think like that.
A few days of keeping a lid on his newfound interest, and Rob felt like his whole body was going cold. For a while he thought it was just a weird physical effect of ignoring things, but when he went to brush his teeth that night before bed, his hands on the taps made the water freeze mid-stream. Everything he touched seemed to develop a thin layer of what looked like ice, only that was impossible. People didn’t make ice.
Thankfully, his mother found him before he panicked too much. She’d attended Hammel, and after helping to soothe him with her own power, she assured him that it was all right, and that he would be going to a special school soon to help him learn to use and control his new power. Sure enough, a recruiter came several days later, and off he went.
He continued to excel at his studies at Hammel, though it took a while to learn to stop freezing everything he touched. He learned to cope by taking to wearing gloves the majority of the time to avoid incidents, as well as to spare anyone’s hands he happened to touch from the cold.
A few years into his stint at Hammel, he met and befriended Mitchell Shortt. Being so involved with his studies and still trying to ignore the fact he had far more interest in other boys than he should, he hadn’t made a lot of friends at Hammel, but he and Mitchell clicked. Almost all of his free time was spent with the other boy, and it was thanks to Mitch that his walls started to come down in more ways than one. Mitch was his first kiss, and it ignited something in him. From then until graduation, they were always together.
Separating wasn’t easy, but Rob couldn’t ignore his scholarship to Stanford. His parents were thrilled with his achievements, and even more so with his drive to complete medical school. As they separated, they promised to keep in touch, and for a while, they did. But as it so often does, life happened. Rob threw himself into his studies, sending off the odd email here and there as he got closer to finishing. He missed Mitch, but he also had the drive to graduate and start working. He wanted to help people, and maybe even change and save lives.
It took a lot of hard work, but Rob graduated and went straight into the medical field, completing internships and endless rounds at a local hospital until he worked his way up into the surgical world. From there he learned everything he could, specializing particularly in orthopedics. It was delicate, precise work, but he was happy doing it. When a position opened up at Maddock General, Rob applied and was accepted, unable to shake the feelings of belonging he'd had at Hammel, and he was happy to return to the area. It was also closer to his family, which was an added bonus.
The night Mitchell came blazing back into his life, Rob honestly didn’t think he’d get through. He’d just been settling into his break when his pager went off for an emergency coming in – a firefighter badly hurt from a call. Rob rushed down to the emergency room, and was struck by the familiar face on the gurney. This wasn’t going to be easy, but he had a job to do.
Working alongside a burn specialist, Rob worked on Mitch’s leg, desperate to try to save it. Going in he knew the chances were slim. He’d seen the x-rays, but no matter what his nursing team said, he kept trying until he accepted the fact that it wasn’t going to happen. With a heavy heart, he changed Mitch’s life, but not in the way he’d hoped.
Directly after the surgery, Rob threw himself into his office, angry with himself for being unable to save Mitch’s leg, angry it had happened in the first place, and upset that the first time he’d seen his ex in years, and this was how he had to meet him again.
It took a few weeks of courage building, not to mention time for Mitchell to be woken up in the burn unit for Rob to visit him. The first visit was hard, dancing the line of Mitch’s surgeon and his friend. That line blurred even more as he made a point of visiting through his recovery. Little by little, he found that the spark Mitch had once ignited in him hadn’t been snuffed out, but rather had simply died down to an ember. Now they were back together again, it was starting to roar back to life.
After a year of dating, Rob asked Mitch to move in with him and his dog, Emma. A year after that, they got married. Every moment he’s not working at the hospital, Rob is home with Mitch, always encouraging when he needs to, and protecting him whether he really needs to or not. He knows he can be overbearing at times, but he just wants to ensure Mitch is always happy, loved, and cared for.Roleplay Example-toddler tantrum-What About You?Name: Madsy
