It was her first real day at Hammel.
As much as it was nerve-wracking being not just a new school but her first school ever, mostly Cori felt excited. Though she was in a new state far from home, that didn't scare her. After all, she traveled quite a lot in order to compete in dance competitions. If anything, she was happy to be away - it meant she could finally make her own choices about how she wanted to live.
There had been a time where she loved living in a way that was entirely centered around dance, but lately... it felt like work. Not to say it hadn't always been hard, because it had, but it had stopped being fun. She had stopped wanting to dance, though that wasn't an option her mother was willing to accept. At least now because of Hammel, her mother couldn't stop her from taking a step back. It bought her the time to take a breath and figure out what she wanted for herself
More than that though, Cori had always had an adventurous spirit. She loved discovering and Hammel was nothing but new things - and people - to discover.
Right now though, it was time for her to meet her trainer for the first time. That was one thing that did make her a bit nervous. For some, the one on one attention might have been quite unusual, but having been home-schooled all her life up til now, Cori wasn't intimidated by that. It was her power that made her a little nervous. They called it tactile anesthesia - which was just technical talk for her touch could put people, even herself, asleep. It was pretty cool, though she had no idea when that would actually be helpful. Mostly right now, it was just inconvenient. Since she had only just manifested, that meant she had no control over it whatsoever, which basically made her no better than a narcoleptic.
So to say she was motivated was an understatement really. Not to mention this particular day had been quite overwhelming. It was so different from what she was used to. Everything from the independence that came with boarding school, to living with other students, taking classes with other students and really just the sheer number of people she was exposed to at every turn. Her head was practically spinning. After all, just because she was excited, didn't mean it wasn't a huge adjustment for her. This though was something more familiar. Just her and her teacher - one on one. That was something she was very comfortable with, no matter how new and foreign her power itself still was to her.
With a small bounce in her step - turning her nerves into energy - Cori entered the training room she had been instructed towards, eager to meet her trainer.
