In the colder months, it is not as easy for her to create fire as it is for her to manipulate existing fire. This ability has the side effects of cold sensitivity, a fiery temper, and fatigue after using her power.

Eye Color: amber
Any Piercings? Earlobes, industrial, nipples
Any Tattoos? Robert Frost's poem Nothing Gold Can Stay on her ribcage
Any Scars? None
General Appearance: Standing at 5 foot and 4 inches, Amber has a lean and toned athletic build. When she walks, she leads with her heart and maintains an upright posture.
Her hair is cut into an edgy, almost mullet, type hair style. It is full of short jagged layers, which fall the longest just about her shoulders. Her natural hair color is a light brown, but she dyes it a chestnut brown flaked with bits of fiery red.
Without makeup, Amber has a natural and delicate beauty. Though this may be true, she prefers to enhance her face with an intense smoky eye and a shimmering pink lip gloss. This make-up style pairs well with her grungy wardrobe. Full of fishnets, combat boots, leather jackets, and rocker dresses, Amber's perfect description would be 'Punk-Rock Princess.'
Personality: Amber feels emotions very intensely. She doesn't feel sadness - she feels misery. She isn't angry - she's infuriated. It's within these emotions that Amber discovered her bi-polar disorder. She was diagnosed at 13, but did not properly medicate until she went to The Hammel Institute. Off her meds, Amber is a loose cannon. She is reckless, dangerous, and cruel towards people who love her. On her meds, she still feels very strong emotions, but she is more in control of her actions and her ability to hurt people.
Upon discovering her powers, Amber was unable to control them while she was off her meds. Though she has learned a lot about control with a steady lithium intake and during her time at The Hammel Institute, a fear of loosing that control has caused Amber to become a bit of a loner. It isn't that she wants to be alone, she just doesn't want to hurt anyone.
While at Hammel, Amber talks to a psychiatrist over the phone to continue her Bi-polar treatment. Her psychiatrist is fully confident in her ability to properly take her medication. It is a daily struggle, but Amber's fear of her power is enough to keep her on track.
When she isn't worrying about her powers, Amber is very friendly and engaging. Though she despises small talk, she loves having interesting conversations about her life, her past, and her dreams. When she finds someone willing to try to see inside of her, she falls into friendship/love very quickly. She doesn't have friends, she has best friends. She won't engage in something if she doesn't find it meaningful.

History
On July 7th, 1997, James and Holly Ignis adopted twins, Amber and Jonas Ignis. The couple found their twins through an adoption agency close to where they lived in Austin, Texas. They never met the birth parents, but they were aware that the twins had another brother one year older. Growing up, James and Holly chose to keep this information to themselves with the intention of telling them if they ever had interest in finding their birth parents.
The family lived comfortably in a home near Austin, Texas for two years before moving. James, a scientist, was offered a research position at Princeton University, which was a job he simply could not resist. The family packed up and moved across the ocean to a suburban neighborhood in Lawrenceville, NJ.
Growing up, Amber was obsessed with being like her brother, Jonas. When her mother wanted to put her in dance classes, she decided to play soccer. Instead of playing dress-up with the girls, she went skateboarding with the boys. Jonas was her best friend, protector, and hero.
But just like any siblings, as they got older they fell into their own interests. At age eight, she traded in the soccer balls and skateboards for microphones and guitars. Though she never truly lost interest in everything she used to do with her brother, she had the desire to expand her horizons. She found that in addition to sports, she had a knack for the arts. She’d spend her days learning new chord progressions and singing with her guitar, and nights under her cover creating stories through her drawings.
For a while, she just lived the normal, happy, uneventful life of a middle-class girl in a loving home with a wonderful family. Though her life wasn't bad, she grew up wishing she had more. Specifically, she had dreams of discovering she was a meta-human. The news portrayed these people as dangerous and scary, but Amber and Jonas knew better. They would play games pretending to be telekinetic, or invisible, or shape shifters. They both found the game exciting, and both secretly hoped that one day they would really become one of these special humans.
But before Amber’s dreams came true, her life took a turn for the worst. It began the winter that she turned 13. Without warning, the carefree girl she used to be turned dark. She would spend hours crying in her room for reasons she did not understand. She’d lash out at her family and hurt them with her words. But without fail, once the snow began to melt, the old Amber was back. This went on for two years before her family decided to get her help. The diagnosis was bi-polar disorder. She took this as a slap in the face. She dreamed of being special, but instead was told she was broken.
Amber did not take her illness seriously and frequently flushed her pills. Coming up on her 16th year, Amber began sneaking out late, experimenting with sex, drugs, and alcohol, and completely distancing herself from her family. She didn’t even treat Jonas the same. It was in this rebellious stage that she got her tattoo at a shop that did not ID. The Robert Frost poem, Nothing Gold Can Stay, is about a loss of innocence, which is how Amber felt.
One day while sporting low-rise jeans and a crop-top, her tattoo was noticed by Jamie, a punk-rock girl from Amber’s high school. Though she had never been attracted to girls before, Jamie had this aire about her that Amber couldn’t shake. The two girls began a physical, but loving relationship that lasted until Amber left for The Hammel Institute. Though this relationship was very important to her, if you ask about it, Amber will say that she is heterosexual.
The day before Amber and Jonas’s 15th birthday was the day that Amber’s meta-human dreams became reality, but not in a way she would have hoped. Though the middle of July ignites a happier Amber, she was having a rough day. A big blowout with her brother quickly turned physical. He was accusing her of ruining her life and she was defending her choices. It seemed like a normal fight at first, but then Amber’s touch on Jonas’s arm began to burn his skin almost down to the bone.
Her parents had him rushed to the hospital insisting that, “He just burned it on the stove.” But with close examination, the burn suspiciously looked like the imprint of a hand. The recruiters showed up within hours of admitting Jonas to the hospital. At this point Amber and her family had figured out what she was, and they were all scared. The recruiters brought some relief. Though they came and left with Amber also immediately, they were still able to make her parents feel that Amber would be all right.
She left for The Hammel Institute in the fading summer days. It goes without saying that her first few months were rough. Even though she was highly monitered to make sure she was taking her medication regularly, her newfound pyrokinesis did not work well in the cold. Her bad attitude made it hard to make friends, but even when she was feeling a bit more positive, her fear of loosing control held her back. Though she is slowly gaining control of her power, she has unfortunately lost the close friendship she had with her brother. He only calls when his parents make him and their conversations are short. She believes he may just be jealous that she got something he always wanted – meta-human powers. She longs to regain his love.
Now 18 with three years of The Hammel Institute under her belt, Amber is beginning to feel confidence in her ability. She is doing well in her training, and her bi-polar disorder is under control. She has yet to make a close friend, but she is willing to try to put her past behind her and start anew. Also, with her new powers she is very interested in finding her birth parents. She has yet to muster up the courage to ask her parents about them, because she hopes she may be able to find answers at Hammel.
Roleplay Example
Jack didn't like the smell of bars. Cigar smoke, mixed with alcohol, mixed with the stench of desire. As he looked around he felt like he was surrounded by a bunch of fakers. The women pushing their chests out to show off their...assets. And the men leaning in whispering some bullshit seduction in their ears. None of it was real, just a way to feel like they aren't lonely.
Jack slumped into his barstool and sipped his whiskey...Jack Daniels on the rocks. Jack had always known that would be his drink of choice. His mom has been taking him to liquor stores for as long as he was breathing, and as soon as he could read he found his companion. Sitting at the top shelf, Jack for Jack. He always found that amusing.
Just before he was about to lose himself in thought, he saw her. Sitting in the corner booth, face stuck in a book, and glasses falling down the bridge of her nose. He felt his pants go a little tight. Something about girls in glasses really turned him on. And something about this girl made him need to know her. As he got up and walked over to her booth, he was about to become everything he hated. But he didn't care, because deep down he knew this was important.
As he reached her he simply said, "Hi," and the ball was in her court now.
