Ribbons and Bows (tags Bunny)

[Sunar Chugani]

A flash of ruffles caught Sunar's eye as he exited his US History class. He twisted his neck to see what the ruffles belonged to, and caught sight of a tiny, adorable girl in the frilliest outfit he had ever laid eyes on. 

He knew, in that moment, that he had to draw her.

He swung his bag over one shoulder and strode purposefully down the hall after her, weaving in and out of the crowd of students. He almost lost sight of her once, when someone much taller and wider than he was stepped out in front of him, but he caught sight of her turning a corner and sighed in relief. 

He wanted to practice drawing fabric, with all the interesting and complicated folds and wrinkles that came along with it. But drawing was always easier with 3D references rather than with photographs, and he didn't own any frilly dresses. 

"Hey! Hey, ribbon girl!" He called out as he caught up to her, "Do you have a minute?"

Bunny had just bought a new dress recently, and she was absolutely in love with it. The light blue color went well with her blonde-dyed hair, and it was fitted in a way that managed to hide the couple pounds she’d been putting on since her last lupus flare-up and the proceeding medicine changes; one of them had a weight gain side-effect, which she wasn’t all that happy about, but she’d been alarmingly thin for a while, so she supposed it wasn’t a bad thing… She just hoped she didn’t get a lot bigger. She had to stay cute and little for Jackson, after all!

She wandered through the halls after leaving her English class, oblivious to the boy that was chasing after her through the crowd. Boys never chased after her, after all – that would be silly to imagine! Bunny did keep an eye out for her boyf- um, not-quite-boyfriend’s blonde hair, but she knew he wasn’t around here this time of day, so it was just wishful thinking.

She had just passed around a corner and started fiddling with her locker when she heard a voice call out in her direction. Curious, Bunny glanced that way, only to notice a young, cute boy… Coming towards her? “O-oh, are you talking to me?” she stammered, caught completely off-guard. Ribbon girl? Well, she supposed she did suit that name… She smiled tentatively. She always had a minute for a cute boy. “Sure, I’m on break now anyway. Um… Wh-what can I do for you?” Bunny nervously clutched her bookbag as she waited for an answer.

Sunar offered the girl a wide smile. "Of course I was talking to you! Do you see anyone else in ribbons?" He gestured widely, which resulted in accidentally hitting the backpack of an innocent bystander whose only crime was walking past at the wrong time. 

He wiggled his hand in the air with a wince as he explained, "I was wondering if you would model for me so I can draw you! Your dress and your hair and and and everything! You look like Alice in Wonderland." 

Alice in Wonderland imagery never went out of style. Iconic, but a little bit out of the mainstream at the same time. What artist could resist? 

"I'll let you have the picture when you're done. I just really need to practice ruffles, and you have ruffles, and you look cute and drawable and pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase?" 

The expression he gave her was full of hope and excitement. He didn't know anything about her, but he really really wanted her to say yes.

Bunny looked around her again, as though there might be someone else wearing as many ribbons as she, but of course there weren’t. “I-I guess not…” she replied with a meek smile, turning her innocent gaze back to the young man. She winced slightly as he hit the poor passerby’s backpack, but didn’t drop her smile.

Her expression turned to one of shock and awe as he voiced what he needed of her. “M… Model? Me?” she squeaked, completely flabbergasted at the thought. He wanted to draw her? Because… Because he liked her dress and hair? She self-consciously fiddled with one of her strands of hair, struggling to come up with an appropriate response through her surprise.

Finally she blurted,”Of course you can!” Bunny blushed and dipped her head, letting out a nervous laugh before she looked up again. “I-I’ve never thought about being a model before. I’m sorry if I seemed surprised.” She fiddled with her knapsack for a moment, biting her lip. “I’m… I’m really flattered that you want to… Um, wh-what do I need to do?”

She didn’t know the first thing about being a model for someone to draw, other than she probably needed to stay really still. Maybe the art room was nearby? Or was she just going to stand there in the hallway? How long would it take? Bunny didn’t know whether she should ask those things or if it would be rude. She was just excited for the opportunity!

"Hooray!" Sunar cheered in excitement when she agreed to sit for him. But then she asked questions, and he deflated a bit; he hadn't thought this all the way through. 

"Oh! Umm...you need to pose."

He looked up and down the hallway. They couldn't very well stop where they were; the halls were too crowded and narrow, and he didn't want to be in the way of people trying to get to and from classes. 

"Do you have time now? We can look for an empty classroom. Or you can come by my dorm later....wait, no." 

He would get in so much trouble for having a girl in his dorm. Never mind, "We could meet in the dorm first floor!" 

Maybe he could coerce a friend into coming with him; the more the merrier, after all.

Bunny giggled at Sunar’s enthusiasm, her cheeks still flushed pink from the unexpected situation she’d found herself in. She hadn’t meant to ruin his energy, though, and frowned slightly as the boy suddenly looked uncertain.

“Right, I thought… Yeah,” she replied uncertainly. And with so many people milling around, this would be a hard place to pose in one position, let alone draw in. At the suggestion to look for a classroom now, Bunny began to nod, but it wasn’t until he mentioned coming by later that she remembered – even though she was on break, she had told the Home Ec. teacher she was going to be coming by early to get started on her project for the day, and she needed that extra time.

Therefore, the offer to meet later in the dorm made her nod more enthusiastically. “We can do that! Um, how does four-thirty sound?” she asked, determining when she would be done for classes, but not too late that her parents would be expecting her home for dinner. Her smile had returned again, and her stomach felt filled with butterflies at the idea of a cute boy asking her to pose so he could draw her. It was like a romance movie or something!

"Four thirty is perfect!" Sunar agreed. "I'll see you then, Ribbon Girl!"

Graphite sketch pencils, color pencils, drawing pad, and Devyn: Sunar had brought everything important along with him to meet Ribbon Girl. He'd had to admit that he hadn't asked her name; he had been too caught up in how excited he was about drawing her to think about appropriate social interactions. 

He nearly skipped into the common area of the dorm first floor, backpack slung over one shoulder and filled with the art supplies he had gathered up. 

"Do you see a girl wearing ribbons and lace? She's like...like...a muse," He exclaimed, standing on tiptoes as if that might help him find her faster.

In Home Ec. class, Bunny made a batch of pumpkin cupcakes (x), complete with cream cheese frosting, a drizzle of caramel, and even another surprise pocket of caramel inside the cupcake itself. She was very proud of her work, and the teacher (as usual, not to brag) praised her for her hard work and effort. And they tasted really good. She was going to have to make a video about this recipe – it was perfect for this time of year!

She was eager, though, to meet the boy she’d met earlier in the dorms, and quickly (well, as quickly as she could on slightly achy joints) made her way to the first floor of the building once her classes were over, just before four-thirty. Under her arm, she carried a small white box with a half-dozen of her remaining cupcakes. She hoped the artist wanted one!

She was perched on the arm of one of the couches in the living space on the far side of the room, when she heard what she thought was the boy’s voice from earlier. Bunny peered over the heads of a couple taller students and, upon seeing the boy, grinned brightly and waved. Was he bringing someone with him? Another cute boy?? Oh goodness, she was blushing already!

Devyn was rather used to be dragged around by his roommate, or rather his Sunar's exuberance causing him to feel that he should be at least mildly as excited about things as he is. Which was the only reason he was standing downstairs waiting for a girl he'd never met and had only been described to him for the past few hours as "the super cute girl with ribbons and lace. She's a muse Dev, a muse!" which was a worse description than it seemed.

He looked around for the girl, not really needing a description because there were very few girls wandering around the common room anyway. It didn't take long to spot her, especially when she waved. Devyn waved back before tapping his friend and pointing to her, "Found your muse."

He peered curiously at the white box sitting in her lap as he walked toward her, "Hi," he greeted when he approached her, introducing himself before Sunar could, "I'm Devyn, Sunar's roommate." He resisted the urge to call her muse or Ribbon Girl, as she had been called for the past few hours while Sunar ranted about her.

At least it was better than the endless hours of praise he'd been hearing about Dr. Muller recently.

"Ribbon girl!!" Sunar returned her wave energetically as he and Devyn made their way over to her. His friend's introduction gave him pause. Oh, right. He hadn't gotten her name, and he also hadn't given his own. 

"I'm Sunar. I guess I forgot to exchange names earlier." 

There, that was done. Now she only had to give her name, and then he could start using that instead of calling her endless nicknames. That would at least be less confusing if he wanted to talk about her to someone else; Dev was probably not the only person who would give blank stares in response to Hey you know the girl with the ribbons?

He slung his bag to the floor and began to dig around for his graphite sketch pencil. "I'm glad you could make it! Are you ready to be pose?"

The boy she didn’t recognize seemed to spot Bunny first, and she realized with an even deeper blush that he somehow knew who she was even though she had never met him. Did that mean the artist boy had been talking about her? Oh gosh… How had this happened?? She giggled and dipped her head as her new nickname was shouted at her again, wondering if it was going to stick. She wouldn’t mind.

She hoped it wasn’t obvious how nervous she was as the two boys approached her. Bunny looked to the new boy first as he introduced himself, and then at the other one as he followed suit. “It’s very nice to meet you both,” she said softly, then added awkwardly to Sunar,”Well, I guess second meeting for you, but you know what I mean!” She giggled again, feeling self-conscious. “I’m Bunny.” She almost never told anyone her real name, as she didn’t like it much and often forgot to respond to it on the rare occasions that anyone used it.

She clutched her cupcake box nervously when Sunar asked if she was ready, and gave a confirmative nod before quickly adding,”Ah, actually, wait, um… I brought some cupcakes I made in home ec., class, if you guys want them…” Bunny popped open the lid of her box to show off the treats. “But we can wait until after if you want!” she added quickly. Maybe Devyn would eat them now, unless he was going to draw her too? “Um… How should I sit?” At least, she sort of hoped she would be sitting, since her joints were kinda achy by this time of day.

Well, it seemed Devyn didn't have to bring up the nickname, he found out when he heard the taller of the two yell exuberantly from behind him. He couldn't help a small chuckled at it, Sunar was one of the few people he knew that could get away with calling someone by titles like that and no have people get mad at him.

He supposed it was because there wasn't even an ounce of malice in him, not that he'd seen yet, so he doubted malice even existed within the male.

Immediately, it was noticeable that the girl was quite timid, or at least very quiet. He wondered how she had dealt with, what was detailed to him as, Sunar chasing her down and calling her "Ribbon Girl".

"Nice to meet you, Bunny," he toned down, as he'd been speaking a little loudly earlier as he tended to when he was with his roommate/friend.

It was obvious where his attention suddenly shifted when she opened the box of desserts, "No, no that's fine. I can eat them now." And he did mean I. He held out his hands to take the box from her, tempted to just take it, but maintaining enough self-control to remain a little polite.

The cupcakes did look tempting, but Sunar didn't want to smudge frosting all over his artwork. If he ate one now, he might end up getting frosting everywhere, which would be difficult when he was trying to work. 

On the other hand, Devyn was with him, which meant that if he wanted to try one he needed to claim one now. 

"Just leave one for me," He requested, sticking his pencil between his teeth and pulling out his notepad. Then he turned to Bunny. 

"Bunny! I like it." 

It was a cute name, and thus suited her. As for poses, he was not especially particular about how his models posed. He just liked having real, live, 3D references. 

"You can sit however you like!" He assured her. "Just get comfortable, because I need you to be still for a bit."

Bunny very badly hoped that she wouldn’t shift while the drawing was happening. That would certainly ruin the boy’s drawing – at least with her face and especially her hair – and would be awkward all around as it always seemed to be for her.

“Oh! Alright,” she replied, handing the box over to the eagerly awaiting Devyn. She beamed at his enthusiasm for the treats. “They’re pumpkin spice with cream cheese frosting and caramel,” she explained, although it seemed like he was planning on eating them no matter what flavor they were. “And yes! Please save one for the artist, I wanted to give him one as thanks for making me feel like a model,” she added with a giggle and a smile at Sunar. It brightened even more as he complimented her name.

“Really? Okay,” she said with a little surprise. Hmm… How should she sit? Bunny plopped back on the couch and scooted up to the edge, smoothing out her skirt and making sure her hair was in a good place before she sat up straight with her arms carefully poised in her lap. Hey… This wasn’t too hard! “How’s this?” she asked with a hopeful glance at Sunar. Hopefully Devyn was being good and not eating all the cupcakes, because she didn’t want to turn her head until the artist was done.

Luckily, Devyn managed a decent portion of his self-control that he didn't groan too loudly as the girl went over the ingredients of the sweet. He looked at her with a very sincere expression a happiness. He didn't indulge his sweet tooth very often, and rarely, if ever, with handmade treats.

He set a cupcake down on a table near the artist and his model, keeping it away from himself in case he 'forgot' and ate Sunar's reserved treat. Devyn took up space on what was left of the couch that she sat on, keeping himself out of the area she sat on as to not interfere with whatever artistic process was happening here.

As the model picked out her desired pose Devyn lifted his first cupcake out of the box, which he kept close to his torso on his lap. He peeled the wrapping down with his teeth out of laziness before taking a bite. Typically he remained somewhat quiet as Sunar drew (or at least he attempted to but boredom typically won out in the end) thinking he might accidentally mess him up.

This time, he found it very hard not to express a certain amount of excitement over what he'd just sunk his teeth into, "Oh my-" he said as the taste flooded his mouth and the caramel within caused a bit of surprise in him. "Holy crap," he continued after finally swallowing his first bite, "these are freaking amazing."

In his excitement, he couldn't help but turn to his roommate, "We have to invite her around more often, I need more of this in my life."
