Well, this day had taken a rather unfortunate turn. Shay thought the day had started rather well, he’d gone to help his mother check on the flowerbeds and lay down another layer of mulch now that the first frost had come. Though, now, as he began his trek back to his apartment, the fact that he neither had a car nor would drive it if he had one, showed itself as being quite a nuisance. The once clear skies once more began dumping large amounts of snow on top of the still somewhat fresh coat under his feet.
He looked upwards, toward the sky once the first few flakes caught in his lashes, the beginnings of a curse hung at his lips, silenced by the glare of a passing mother and child.
“-it,” he finished once she was out of earshot.
The snow fall was picking up, and fast, it wouldn’t be long before his visibility was practically nonexistent and his leg was starting to act up, his back would soon follow. He needed to wait it out somewhere, wait for it to clear up before he tried to go back to his apartment.
This was where his day made its most unfortunate turn, and that was that he really only knew one person in the area well enough to show up at their door seeking shelter. Though, last he checked they definitely weren’t on speaking terms.
Technically, they were exes, in a way, seeing as Shay didn’t really call his relationships dating. Which was, consequently, what led to their ‘break up’.
His time with Kam had been, well, it had been amazing. They hit it off rather quickly, and though he couldn’t remember the exact details of their first meaning he did remember how attracted he’d been to her looks, at first, and then to her sharp wit.
She kept up with his pokes and prods and sent back her own, which wasn’t heard of but so rare at the time that it had caused him to smile at her. And from there, well there was enough interest and sexual attraction to invite her into his life.
After that, well, he didn’t want to dwell on the arguments and disagreements that led to their eventual separation, but it boiled down to a difference of opinions and Shay’s refusal to change a lifestyle he was very comfortable with.
Though, despite where he stood (which was at the outskirts of town under heavy snowfall) he was still tempted to trudge through rather than find himself cold and desperate at her doorstep. Much to his dis-satisfaction, this is exactly where he found himself.
He knocked on the door quickly, having to throw away the idea of diving off into a mound of snow even after he’d already alerted the resident to his presence. “Trust me,” he said as the door opened, “I hate this so much more than you do.”
