Sometimes, when Devyn's mind was blurry with too many thoughts and fear and worries, he found himself at Hammel's gym, shooting around by himself. It was grounding for him, brought him back to something he could focus on and made him feel better because he was practicing which meant he was improving.


He went through the motions, rebounded the ball off his own shot, moved around the court as if he was running one of his drills, shot the ball, rebounded, and repeat. It would probably be pretty boring to watch, which was fine it wasn't for entertainment.


This time, he found himself losing his train of thought in the drills and couldn't seem to hang onto his train of thought. But he wanted to keep playing. He looked over to a pair of boys, twins it seemed, hanging around the edges of the court but didn't seem too busy.


"Hey," he called out, waiting until they acknowledge him before gesturing with the ball, "wanna play?" Maybe only one of them would want to and they could go one on one, but if now he could figure something out.

Hunter and Terry were bored. Playing pranks didn't have its interest like it normally did for the Park twins. The two wandered around the school grounds looking for something to entertain them. So far they had no luck. They continued their bored walk. Hunter and Terry started to walk past the gym. The gym door was open. The sound of a basketball bouncing on the floor caught the attention the two brothers. Hunter and Terry went to investigate. They walked into the gym to find a boy shooting baskets. Hunter and Terry stood on the side lines watching. They wanted to yell miss at the kid when he went for his next shot. But that plan was foiled when the boy turned to them and asked if the Park twins wanted to play.

Hunter and Terry looked at each other. "Sure," they said together. If the kid suggest a one on one game then the joke was on him. Hunter and Terry were a gestalt pair so there for they were the same in two bodies despite their looks.

They walked over to the kid. "What game?" Hunter asked.

Devyn was a little startled when they spoke at the same time and looked at one and then other, "Uh, Okay. If both of you are playing," he trailed off to think, humming as he looked back over his shoulder at the court behind him before turning back to them.


"Do you guys know how to play horse?" It was an easy enough game to explain and play, and was kind of fun to goof around and attempt complicated shots. He was probably the worst person to play with considering his ability, but he would do his best not to cheat and then he wouldn't have to even tell them about it either.


He jogged backwards onto the court, bounce passing the ball to the twin that had asked which game they were going to play, "My name is Devyn by the way."

"Yeah," the Park twins said together again. They played horse many times when they were younger. Granted, it was before their power manifested so they were two people playing. The brothers played against each other. Now they play as one because of their gestalt power.

Hunter and Terry jogged back to the court with their challenger. The blond with the patch of blue received the basketball from Devyn. He glanced at his brother. It would be so easy to play mind games with Devyn. Devyn didn't know the difference. "Hunter," he dribbled the ball and then passed it to his brother with a smirk. The browned haired brother smirked back. "Terry." Terry passed the ball back to Devyn.

"Heads or tails?" Hunter asked while Terry pulled out a coin to flip.

Again, they spoke in unison, but Devyn was less caught off guard this time and brushed it off. He dragged his feet along the court briefly and one at a time, making sure the bottoms of them were clean before stepping onto the court.

"Nice to meet you guys," he said, he wouldn't have to work hard at remembering which said what as he had a very good memory. "Mmm," he hummed in thought as he caught the ball easily, shooting it upwards, "Heads," he called and caught the ball as it fell back down to him.

"Do you guys play often," he questioned curiously, asking about if they played the sport. He was also wondering if he should perhaps warn that he did play pretty often.

Terry flipped the quarter up in the air. He easily caught it. He put the coin on the back of his other hand. Terry removed his hand to reveal the tail side of the quarter up. “Looks like we’re going first.”

Terry pocketed the quarter as his brother spoke. “We play. And we’re pretty good.” Hunter gloated. Hunter took the ball when Devyn passed it him.

Hunter dribbled the ball while he thought of a rule. The Park twins looked at each other out of their corners of their eyes. They both had smug grin on their faces. “Okay, first rule is the shot from the elbow with eyes closed.” Hunter dribbled the ball over to the elbow of the court. Terry followed his brother and stood by. Hunter closed his eyes and was ready to shot. Even though Hunter’s eyes were closed he could still “see” where the basket was. Terry was the one “showing” his brother. They were one person in two bodies.

The little distance nagging made its self-known to the Park twins again. And once again the brothers decided to ignore it. Hunter took the shot. The basketball hit the rim and slipped through the basket.

“Good luck,” Terry wished Devyn as Hunter went to retrieve the ball. Hunter passed the ball to Devyn.

Devyn gestured toward the goal, taking a step back to allow them plenty of room to perform their shot. He laughed and smiled, "That's good! Why don't you play on the team then?" They could always use more players, and Devyn didn't know why they wouldn't want to if they enjoyed playing so much. He didn't pay any mind to his gloating though he did feel motivated to show off his own skills when he heard it.

He nodded, impressed at how easily Hunter made the shot. "Okay, thanks" he said in response to their well-wishing, receiving the ball and dribbling it as he moved to the same spot that the twins had been standing at. He went through the motions a few times, practicing how he would shoot it if his eyes were open before finally closing his eyes and shooting.

He opened his eyes at the sound of it hitting the rim, "Oh thank god," he laughed when he saw it slip through the net. Devyn jogged to retrieve the ball, throwing it up into the air and catching it as he thought of a challenge.

"How about from the free throw line....backwards?" He laughed at his lame challenge, he wasn't very inventive when it came to trick shots, but maybe he'd find some inspiration as the game continued. He went to his spot, looking over his shoulder to catch sight of the goal before facing away from it and shooting over his head.

He turned to see how it was faring, nervous as the ball spun its way around the rim before finally falling in. So far, so good, but he'd likely slip up soon.

Hunter and Terry stood out of the way as Devyn took his shot. Their grins faded when Devyn made the shot. He was better than the Park twins thought. Devyn must have gotten a lucky shot. “Let’s just say, we don’t like teams. We like to play by our selfs. Or one on one games.”

Terry took the basketball this time. He stepped up at the free throw line. Terry’s back faced the hoop. Hunter stood off to the side. They used their gestalt power so Terry could “see” the hoop he was aiming at. Was it cheating? Probably. Did the Park twins give two cents? Nope. Terry tossed the ball behind him. The ball sailed through the air. It smacked into the backboard and rebounded back to the court. The brothers glared at each other. The game was just getting started and they already gotten a letter.

Terry took the ball again. He dribbled the ball while he thought of the next rule. “Okay,” sideline.” The Park twins alternated speaking. “One hand.” Terry went over to the sideline. He balanced the ball in his right hand. Terry chucked the ball towards the hoop. The ball, once again, hit the backboard. This time the basketball went through the hoop.

Devyn admitted that at times he could be a ... show off, but it was very rare and usually when he was with a certain type of person. The Park twins fit that personality type, with their slight smugness as they walked across the court. So, with that said he couldn't quite help his smirk as he saw their grins fall.

"Don't play nice with others?" He joked, stepping off to the side so that they could try the shot. "You know," Devyn said, finally deciding to call them out on something, "Typically in this game you would both make the shot." Not that it mattered since he missed, and his smile widened slightly.

He might feel bad later for his somewhat poor attitude, but for now, he was quite content with himself and would allow himself to get caught in his competitive side. Devyn jogged towards the ball, catching it and dribbling to his spot, a bit too confident in himself. He released before setting himself up and missed the hoop by a few inches.

Devyn hung his head back and groaned at himself, he got a bit too cocky but recovered quickly and ran toward the ball. He scooped up again calling his shot as he dribbled around the court. "Alright, so dribble across to the other side of the three point line, jump and shoot while turning." Honestly, it was just a ridiculous shot to add some fun to the game but he managed to make it and let out a loud woop in celebration before kicking the ball towards the other boys.

Hunter and Terry looked at each other. They turned their attention to Devyn, “You don’t know much about gestalts, do ya?” Most people looked at them as two people who are twins. Since their power manifested Hunter and Terry became one person in two bodies. So, technically, Devyn was playing against one person even though it didn’t look like a one-on-one game.

The shots were getting kind of ridiculous, but that was expected. Terry caught the ball after Devyn’s shot. He followed Devyn’s rule. Terry and his brother watched the ball bounce on the rim. It looked like it was going to be a missed shot. Gravity pulled the ball back down and it went through the hoop. Hunter and Terry both made a fist of victory.

It was the Park twins’ turn to come up with a rule. “Shoot with feet.” Hunter said as Terry lay down on the ground. He held the ball between his feet. He flung the ball. Like expected the ball didn’t really go anywhere. It went up in the air and came back down nowhere near the hoop.
