Midnight Snack (Open)

It was late in the night and Kingston was still up. He was hunched over his laptop engrossed with his current coding. His stomach rumbled bringing him back to reality. He looked at the time in the top right corner of his laptop screen. 11:58 p.m. Kingston didn't realized how much time had passed. Kingston left his room and went over to the mini-fridge in the common room. The light in the fridge showed the bare shelfs. Kingston didn't have any cups of strawberry yogurt left. He would have to look for something else where. Kingston left his dorm in his sweatpants, long sleeves, and sneakers.

Walking the school's hall at night was most certainly different. During the day the halls always had students walking around, staff going to where they were needed. Now the halls were like they were deserted. All was quiet. It made Kingston uneasy. The technopath had a fear of the dark. And being in empty school hallways in the middle of the night was high on the freaky meter. It was Kingston's first time being out of the dorms so late at night. Normally, he would just stay in the dorm.

He arrived at the Home Ec classroom. The door was most likely going to be locked. He was regretting leaving his dorm now. King tried the door. Surprisingly, the door was unlocked. The teacher or a janitor forgot to locked the room up for the night.

Kingston walked through the classroom to the kitchens in the back. He felt around on the wall for the light switch. He flipped the switch. King blinked his eyes until they adjusted to the change in lighting. Kingston went over to the fridge in hopes to find a light snack. He pawed through the fridge until he found some clementines in the bottom drawer. He took two and closed the fridge. Kingston peeled off the skin of one clementine, but stop half way through. Kingston was pretty sure he heard footsteps coming.

It was very rare for Jordan to be up in the middle of the night. it was very rare for him to be up at all. His abilities occasionally put himself to sleep at inopportune moments and his general laziness made him zone out for at least several hours of the day.

He wasn't here because of a lazy moment. His tactile anesthesia had decided to act against him once again and he had spent the entire day passed out on the floor of his dorm. Jordan's quadruplet sister, Iris, was going to be told off as soon as the tired teen could get his hands on her. The red-head was in charge of waking him up when he fell asleep but clearly she had forgotten. He knew she suffered from insomnia and, since she wasn't in her room, he assumed she had gone walkabouts.

Jordan paused in his pace down the hallway. Where the f*ck was he?

The tall boy wasn't as familiar with the school grounds as his sister was and started to turn back the way he came when a light flickered on. He swiveled on his heels and began to walk towards it. Home Ec... Unusual place for a ghost. Jordan thought as he pushed open the door, slouching slightly in its frame.

Very slowly, a single eyebrow raised as he met the eyes of another student as he leaned against the door frame; too lazy to stand properly.

"Are you..." Jordan squinted at the student's hands, "-stealing oranges?"

Kingston looked up when someone spoke to him. A boy stood in the doorway. Kingston stood there in the home ec room re handed, or rather orange handed. He was going to answer ‘no’. But Kingston thought about it. He was kind of stealing. He didn’t mean to. The technopath was hungry and didn’t have food in his dorm. You couldn’t blame him.

Kingston shifted his weight from foot to foot. He wished his knew what to do in this kind of situation. King wasn’t sure if the boy was angry at him or not. Kingston extended his hand to the boy offering an orange. Hopefully that was a good move on King's part.

Jordan watched the other student with a lazy but watchful gaze, like a cat woken from its nap. He followed Kingston's movements and only lifted his gaze to the student's face when the orange was slowly offered as what could only be assumed as a bribe.

Jordan didn't want the orange; but he didn't want to seem like a snitch either. It was just food. No one's going to scream and start a school shooting. His sister might - though only with a nerf gun.

With a slight shuffle, Jordan pushed himself off the doorframe and approached the student reaching for the orange. He kept staring and slowly raised the hand that held the peeled fruit... and bounced it off the student's head.

"Relax." He said with a quiet drawl, catching the fruit after the impact. "No one's going to scream and attack you for a missing fruit. Well, a particular glowing redhead might but I didn't see her around here."

Kingston flinched when he was hit in the head with the orange. What was the point of that? Kingston tried to come up with a reason behind the kid’s action. Did Kingston do something he didn’t mean to? Wasn’t offering someone something a good thing? Did King made a mistake?

“I’m sorry.” He didn’t know what he was apologizing for. Hopefully, that would make up for whatever Kingston did before.

Jordan frowned as the student flinched. It wasn't as if Jordan was angry, did he seem so? He wasn't sure but he was way too tired to think into it. However, what the fellow student said next pricked at Jordan's concern again.

"What are you apologizing for?" Jordan asked as he reached behind the dude to put the orange on the counter; he would've given it back but he didn't want to risk the kid flinching again. As he straightened up, Jordan forced his eyes to focus properly; fixing the student with his dazed stare.

Now Kingston really did it. Or at least he thought he did. The guy was questioning King about apologizing. The guy put the fruit down and now was watching Kingston. Kingston’s eyes darted around the room. Should he ask? It was going to be the only way for Kingston to know. “Sorry.” This time King was apologizing for apologizing.

“Um, what…emotion are…you felling?” While asking his question Kingston’s eye kept flicking from the guy and the floor.

Jordan smiled softly, a concerned look still hinting around his mouth. The dude apologized again. Adorable but worrying. The quintuplet glanced around the room as the student did; his sleepy eyes finding nothing in the room's darkness.

"Emotion?" Jordan paused in confusion at the question but decided to try and answer it anyway. He frowned, finding it hard to find the right word for it. Jordan wasn't used to this kind of thing at all; not even Iris knew how to talk about feelings. He supposed that he was feeling curious but not.. invasive in manner. "I think I'm... neutrally intrigued."

“Intrigue. Arouse the curiosity or interest of.” The technopath recited. That was one of the things he did on the computer. Kingston would look up emotions and the definitions. Even with the information from the internet King still had a hard time identifying the human emotions. It was part of being a technopath.

The technopath had the awkward ants in his pants again. He never knew what to do in these kinds of situations. Having all the attention on him. It made Kingston uneasy. Kingston wished there was something to take the pressure off of him.

Jordan raised a slender eyebrow at the boy as he recited the meaning of his spoken emotion - it dropping as he remembered that people do suffer from power side-effects, just like himself. Maybe this whole awkwardness was just one of his.

"And, uh, what emotion are you feeling?" He asked, trying to get on the same level as the fellow student without looking like an absolute dick. Glancing over his body language, it was clear that he was uncomfortable.

Oh boy. What emotion was Kingston feeling? Um, would Kingston be able to identify his emotion? Besides looking emotions up on the Internet, Kingston would try practicing name other people’s emotions. He hadn’t tried naming his own. How hard could it be?

“Um,” Kingston thought. He was going through a list of emotions with their definition. He was trying to find one that fitted with him. His awkward ants were with him. “Uncomfortable? Causing or feeling unease or awkwardness.” Was that right?
