One Billion Years In The Making (Ruby & Grayson Sato)

[Emerald Parker]

Unless it was one of Emerald's rare entanglements or Ruby occasionally having a friend over, it wasn't like the Parker sisters had many guests over. Most of the people Ruby knew were at Hammel, and Emerald still wasn't fully out and in the community.

So, the main room of their apartment hadn't been very cleaned recently, so Emerald was going around with a duster. Everything else had been straightened up or taken care of, all that was left was dusting. Honestly, with Grayson being a dorm monitor, he was probably used to a lack of cleanliness that having dozens of teens would bring about. Maybe it was just having someone over around her age that wasn't coming over to sleep with her (which only had happened once since Ruby was living with her, she usually went to their place).

"Ruby, can you get the movie in while I change?" Emerald called out and asked while putting the duster away in the closet. Ruby, Emerald, and Grayson were going to marathon the original Star Wars trilogy. Emerald wasn't a huge movie fan, but Star Wars was still fun to her. She didn't really like the newer prequel movies, but that was likely because Star Wars was always the originals when she first got into them. She saw A New Hope when she was 8 in 1994. The Special Edition rereleases to theaters were some of the few movies she saw in the theaters in the 90s. So it was special.

Emerald went into her room and stripped off her day clothes. Since they were having a guest, and Emerald could admit he was kinda cute, she decided to change her bra out for one that curved with her body a bit better. She had already done up makeup earlier, so she just gently fixed up her lipstick. A few brushes to her hair to clean it up, and a cute pajama set. Emerald was still getting her hair a little fixed up when she heard the doorbell ring, "Could you get it? I'll be right out!"

[Grayson Sato]

Grayson walked through the downtown. It was good to get out and get away from the craziness of the dorms. He was dressed in casual comfortable clothes. He had on olive green slacks and a simple V-neck black t-shirt. He didn't look like a total bum, but wasn't over dressed for the occasion. He was appropriately dressed to be a guest at Emerald's home. Grayson had a plastic bag in one hand. He felt uncomfortable showing up at Emerald’s home for the first time empty handed. Inside the bag there was a bag of chips and a bottle of apple juice. He was going to bring some alcohol but since Ruby was going to be there juice seemed like the better option. It was the thought that counted.

Grayson was looking forward to movie night with Emerald and Ruby. Tonight's movies were going to be the Star Wars trilogy. Gray was looking forward to watch Star Wars. He remembered watching the first Star Wars movie that was released. He was seven years old when first watched the movie with his little stepbrother, Alex. The two brothers used to play Jedi. At that time Gray didn't really understood English and a good part of the movie went of little Grayson's head. Now Grayson would be able to follow the movie much better and kid Grayson.

He pulled out his cell phone to check the address. He wanted to make sure he was going to the right apartment. Gray entered the apartment building. He took the stairs to Emerald's floor. He ran a quick hand through his hair to neat it a little bit. Grayson rang the doorbell. He waited patiently for someone to open the door. "Hello," he said when the door opened.

[Ruby Parker]

Ruby stuck her head out of the bathroom she was cleaning when she heard her sister's request to put in the movie, her curly red hair falling over her shoulder with the motion. "Right on it!" She responded brightly, returning the toilet brush she had been using a few seconds earlier back to it's rightful place in its holder. She practically skipped into the living room and grabbed the bluray from the small pile they kept on the TV stand inserting it into their modest TV ceremonially.

Star Wars. Almost everyone had grown up on this movie, including Ruby. It was pretty much an American right of passage, along with seeing Die Hard and Jurassic World. Ruby had fond memories of seeing the movies at home with both of her sisters (at different times of course), clinging to Emerald when Darth Vader scared her, cheering right in Saphire's ears when the Death Star blew up, playing the infinite number of games based on the franchise... It was hard to deny it was one of her favorite movies.

Ruby looked back when she heard the doorbell ring, her grey eyes twinkling with excitement. "looks like he came! Sweeet!" The short red head was quick to run to the door and answer it, beaming at Grayson. "Welcome to the Parker house! You brought snacks? That's really nice, thank you!" She moved to lead the way in a bit more, her excitement propelling her forward with little thought for the man she was leaving in her dust. "We've got some soda and tea here as well if you want some, and some chips, I think we also have ramen and pizza but I'm not sure how much of either of those are left..."

She was not about to admit this aloud, but she was almost as excited to hang out with older people as she was to see the movie in general. Time with her sister was also a huge plus, but she already had plenty of that.

[Emerald Parker]

Was Emerald honestly standing there trying to determine if her bra made her chest look good in those pajamas? "Come on!" The quiet exclamation to herself was enough to jolt her from the floor length mirror. She looked as good as she needed to look for what amounted to just a casual watching of movies for six hours. Which honestly meant she was overdoing it. What if Grayson thought she was trying to come onto him?

He was cute and all, but that would be horribly awkward if it came off in a certain way...No, she needed to do something. But...she looked so nice. Oh!

Emerald put her hands in her hair and shook her head a little bit. Good, it still looked nice, but now it looked less like a date for a fancy restaurant and more like she had been cleaning for awhile, which she had. Grabbing a tissue, she dabbed a little bit of lipstick off her lips. Now it was a little less obvious.

Realizing she had taken long enough, she rushed out into the living area, smile on her face, "Hey Grayson, glad to see you could make it! Sit wherever you want, I just want some...uh..." Her mind was blank for a moment as she remembered what she was gonna have, "Oh, tea, right." She started the pot and looked for her mint mix, nearly knocking the pot over in the process. "Sorry..." She said out loud, "We don't have people over often."

[Grayson Sato]

Grayson closed the door as he stepped in. He followed the excited Ruby into the apartment. He placed the plastic bag on the coffee table. Grayson was quite amused with Ruby full steaming ahead. “Don’t feel like you have to go out of your way for me.” Gray unbuttoned his jacket as he looked around the apartment.

Gray turned when Emerald greeted him. Gray was taken back. He wasn’t expecting to such cute pajamas that show off so much skin. Grayson normally would see Emerald in a school setting, so everyone was appropriately dressed. This was a whole new side of Emerald Grayson hadn’t seen before. And the man wasn’t complaining. “Hi. Ah, yes,” Gray turned back to the room to find a place to sit.

He took off his jacket. The bottom of his dragon tattoo stuck out from the bottom of his shirt sleeve. He placed his jacket over the back of the sofa. Gray sat down. “No worries. Take your time.” Gray spotted the bag he had put on the coffee table. He got up to take the bag of chips and juice out of the plastic bag. He bunched the bag into a ball and stuffed it into his jacket’s pocket.

“How are you ladies this evening?” Gray asked as he pulled out his cell phone to put on vibrate, not that he was expecting any calls. He was going to turn it off but changed his mind. There could be a dire situation at Hammel and someone might need to get in touch with Grayson. Between the dorm monitors and other staff members who live on campus things should be covered. Gray put his cell back in his jacket.

[Ruby Parker]

Ruby could taste the sexual tension in the air. It was faint, but existent. While she wasn't much of a prude, she qualified herself among the sort of people who would be uncomfortable seeing her sister getting it on.

With this in mind, the red head headed to their small kitchen and grabbed herself a few cans of Dr. Pepper and Lays to chow down on. She smiled over her shoulder at Grayson when he asked how they were doing, saying, "We're doing fantastic. How are the dorms? Has anything exploded this year?"

The red head returned to the living room to preform a little experiment by sitting on the main couch and leaving the loveseat free. If they were here for a fun night, they'd take the main couch. But if they were here to Netflix and Chill, they'd go straight for the loveseat and Ruby would suddenly remember a homework assignment. She was clever like that or at least liked to think she was a little clever. Wait, scratch that, her sisters were both flat out smart and more clever than she was. Average maybe? Yeah, she liked to think she was at least average intellect.

As soon as the teapot stopped deciding to shift around, Emerald managed to get her mint tea boiled and poured. Just the thing to calm her down, besides, the Star Wars films were action films, but they weren't gonna keep her from sleeping tonight either.

Grayson seemed a little surprised to see her. Of course, she did look different now than at school. Much more colorful than her winter clothes made her seem, maybe? She wasn't really sure. As Emerald was getting ready to go out of the small kitchen, she paused for a moment. She was surprisingly nervous about having a visitor, that's why she made the tea...but maybe she should get a little extra help. Opening one of the cabinets, she pulled a small vodka bottle (nearly empty), and poured a small amount in her tea mug. "That should do it..."

Taking a moment, Emerald checked how much was left. Can't be too careful with a minor around, even if Ruby was good.

Placing the Vdoka bottle back, Emerald went out, and caught Ruby's question, adding, "Yes, I'm curious about that too. I'm sure some metas can do that, right?"

Emerald went straight for where Ruby was sitting, sitting on the side of her further from the TV. Why wouldn't she sit with her sister after all? Relaxing, she took a quick sip of her warm tea. Vodka and mint warmed her right up. Placing it on the side table, she streched toward the middle table to grab the remotes, and started fiddling through to get the movie up.

[Grayson Sato]

Gray adjusted his shirt. “The dorms are doing well. No major catastrophes, yet. Uh, yeah, students with pyrokinesis. Especially the students who are still learning to control their power.” Grayson knew that Ruby had powers because she was a student at Hammel. But Gray wasn’t sure about Emerald. He knew that some staff members were non-powered. “What powers do you ladies have, if you don’t mind me asking.”

Grayson took the open spot on the couch where he had put his jacket. Gray ate a little before he came, so he wasn’t about having a snack. Perhaps, if he was getting the munchies he could get something in between the movies.

Hopefully, he wouldn’t fall asleep during the movie. Sleep would always come at weird times. When Gray wanted to sleep, it seemed impossible for him to fall asleep. When Gray wanted to stay awake that was usually when sleep started to come to him. He thought he would be able to handle his stupid insomnia by now. He had been living with it since his power manifested. Grayson would keep him self up. Grayson wanted to see the Star Wars movies.

[Ruby Parker]

Ruby felt warm and cozy with her sister near by, like she was covered in a blanket. She felt a bit silly about her thoughts from before, thought it didn't matter as long as her sister was by her side.

"I can sense people's powers and can tell you about them if I try hard enough. So I suppose you can say I'm a... meta-detector." Ruby said, offering the small smirk of someone who just go away with blaming their fart on the dog. She thought it was a pretty clever pun herself.

"My sister doesn't have any powers, but she might as well because of how smart she is," Ruby said, beaming with pride. Her sister was more than just smart, she was a genius. A genius Ruby was proud to be learning from and a genius who seemed to come from a family of smart people, so hopefully it'd rub off in a few years.

[Emerald Parker]

Emerald hadn't used any of the new devices since she bought them, that was Ruby's thing. Emerald herself only watched like one or two things a week (if she didn't go out much), reading was so much better. But it wasn't hard to figure out, and Emerald had the disc going through the menus in no time. Always trailers to skip...

Following what was being spoken by the others, Emerald got a big smile when Ruby talked about her, "You're too sweet, Ruby." Looking to Grayson, she gently touched the shoulder of Ruby for a moment as she told him, "I'm here to be close to this girl. Honestly, even with everything I know about the world, your meta stuff is still hard to get used to. And there is so many different kinds. So many different students. I have enough of them to manage, you have to manage their dorms."

Emerald shifted a bit to get settled, and took another sip from her vodka-infused mint tea before hitting the start button on the movie. "Besides, New York was getting kind of boring. Pilot Ridge has that nice kind of small-but-not-small town feel to it." If she were being honest, New York wasn't boring, but constantly being reminded of her ex was. Ruby was the only one who really knew much about that, and Emerald didn't feel like sharing. After a brief frown, she smiled as the last piracy warning faded, "And here we go."

[Grayson Sato]

Gray smiled at Ruby’s little joke. “Good one,” he said. He wasn’t sure if Ruby was one of those people with the annoying jokes. So, he wasn’t sure if encouraging Ruby to keep up with the humor was good thing or not. Gray did enjoy the simple joke.

Watching the two sisters reminded Gray of his stepbrother and half-sister. He thought about the rift that formed between him and his siblings. When Gray went back home after high school, things were very different. Perhaps, Gray should follow Emerald’s lead and do something about getting closer to his siblings again. But, that wasn’t something Gray was going to worry about at the moment. In the current moment Gray was over a friend’s house for a movie night.

“It’s one thing being a student because you focus of your power and not worry about anyone else’s. It’s another thing when you’re in change of many students all with different powers. Between the new students that can’t control their power yet and all the typical drama, it’s a job that keeps me on my toes.” Gray stretched out his legs in front of him. He slumped down in his seat. “Oh, you’re from New York? I’ve been there. Being someone with insomnia New York is not a favorite place of mine.” Gray chuckled.

All the important notices finished showing. The screen went black and then the well known music started.

[Ruby Parker]

At the mention of New York, Ruby grabbed her sister's hand for reassurance, keeping her face on the TV to keep the gesture subtle and hard for Grayson to notice. As quickly as the gesture began, Ruby's hand retreated back to her own pile of food.

As the movie began, Ruby began to watch it intently, leaving the other two to continue their conversation while she analyzed each scene with her new found five point plot structure knowledge.
