The Basics
Name: Jamison Lucas Dubois
Nicknames: Jamie
Age: 17
Orientation: Heterosexual
Desired Rank/Job: Student
Powers: Molecular Acceleration
Jamie has the ability to rapidly accelerate the molecules stored inside an object and convert them into kinetic energy. This process essentially “charges” the item, which will end with explosive results. When charged the item is capable of moving on its own once given an initial direction from the charger. Once the item is released, it will typically combust between five to seven seconds, depending on the size, or when it comes in contact with something else.
Skin contact is always required for the energy to begin to convert, and the time it takes to charge up an object depends on the size. Tiny items like pebbles and beads will charge up instantly, while larger items like chairs or tables can take up to a minute, maybe even two depending on the weight. Technically, an item almost any size has the potential to be charged up, so like as it has potential energy. However, it will take much longer periods of time the larger and heavier the object, and the effects will be draining. The longer it takes to charge something up, the weaker Jamie will become to the point where he would lose consciousness before he finishes charging up the object. Any object that takes more than a minute and a half to charge will result in loss of consciousness. In turn, he is unable to complete the charge, which would null the effects and the kinetic energy would settle back into it's normal state. Any item that is heavier than about 20 pounds would be impossible for him to charge up.
The damage of the explosion also depends heavily on size. Pebbles and beads, which are the easiest to charge, have similar effects to bang snaps, while larger rocks can be attributed to cherry bombs. The larger the object, the more dangerous the explosion.
Jamie’s powers are typically voluntary and he must be concentrating in order to use them. However, they are linked to his emotions as well and any objects in his hands tend to inadvertently charge up when he’s angry, frustrated, or under a high amount of stress. Jamie is also unable to charge up organic beings, so anything that is essentially living will be unaffected by his powers.
Other side effects manifest in dizziness and extreme fatigue from overuse, with the potential to lose consciousness/blackout when charging up larger items. Nosebleeds and disorientation are also common, as well as a numbness and tingling sensation in his fingers and palms.

Any Scars: Nothing noteworthy.
General Appearance: Jamie doesn’t really have any distinguishing features that set him apart from other teenaged boys. His jawline is very square and defined, and his lips are full. His features have always been on the lighter side. His skin is fair and for the longest time his hair was platinum blond. Over the years, it darkened to a lighter shade of brown, with his eyebrows being a few shades darker. He usually keeps his hair short, but sometimes if he doesn’t keep it trimmed, it’ll take on a shaggier style. He also shaves his face, but sometimes if he misses a couple days he gets a little bit of stubble across his chin. He has dark blue eyes that his mother can only assume he inherited from his father, since her’s are hazel.
He’s stands at the very average height of 5”11, and weighs about 160lbs. He had a large growth spurt when he was younger and would have been considered tall, however, he stopped growing after he reached his current height. His build is normal for someone his age. He doesn’t really workout, so he’s not incredibly muscular or lean, but his metabolism is fast enough that he maintains an average weight.
Jamie’s style is relaxed. He’s never been one of those guys who really cares a lot about his appearance, but he never really manages to look like a slob. His typical attire usually just consists of jeans, t-shirts, button-ups, shorts, sneakers, etc. Never anything too fancy or that would be too uncomfortable. For some reason he tends to have a slightly higher body temperature, and is always incredibly warm so he wears shorts and t-shirts a lot, even if the weather would normally call for warmer clothes.
Personality: Jamie has never been known to have the best personality. While he’s not unpleasant to be around and is usually friendly enough, he doesn’t always have the best attitude. He’s developed a sort of aloof persona over the years, though those who have gotten close with him have managed to catch a glimpse at his witty charm. He has a decent amount of friends, but there’s very few people that he’d trust enough to get close with.
Jamie is very independant. Because his mother had to work so many hours, he ended up taking care of himself from a young age. He always would put himself on the bus to school and then let himself in when he came home again. He would often have to make his own meals if his mother wasn’t home. His mother always went grocery shopping on the weekends, and he always had the things he needed, but he was alone in his house most of the time, unless he invited a friend. He’s very mature in the sense that he can take care of himself, but not mature enough to stay out of trouble.
He’s very laid-back and easygoing, almost too much so. He doesn’t do very well in academics because he’s just unmotivated. He doesn’t feel like putting effort into his schoolwork, often only giving just enough to pass. He also has a problem with authority and tends to either get snarky or shut down completely when someone older forces him to do something he has no interest in or is trying to discipline him in any way.
He doesn’t always make the best choices. He can be pretty reckless and will do almost anything if someone dares him, so long as it sounds exciting. He’s an adrenaline-junkee, which is part of the reason he used to steal small items from stores. This is usually what gets him into trouble, and how he usually drags other people down with him. His ideas and antics sometimes don’t always go as planned, but he’d never admit that he was wrong.
Since he’s so laid-back he rarely has any trouble controlling his emotions. It’s usually pretty hard to get him angry and riled up, though it does happen on occasion. He usually keeps his cool pretty well, and the last time that he lost control was when his powers manifested. Occasionally he gets frustrated when he’s dealing with schoolwork or controlling adults, but it rarely gets to the point where he has an outburst or a power slip. Jamie knows not to touch anything at this point if he feels like his emotions aren’t in check. He doesn’t pick fights with people, but has no problem defending himself or his friends.

History
Jamie was born on March 15th to Ella Dubois when she was only a sophomore in college. She’d been on a summer extension trip in Sydney, Australia nine months prior and had a one night stand with one of the locals after a night out. She didn’t find out until three months later, when she was back in the United States. She had no way of contacting the father; she didn’t even know his full name or if he lived in Sydney or was from somewhere else.
She tried to finish out her college career, but eventually took a leave of absence during the fall semester of her junior year and never ended up returning. She took a receptionist job at local hotel in Dayton, Ohio where she’d grown up. She worked as many hours as she could to scrape up enough money for the two of them, while Jamie was babysat by his grandfather.
With all the hours that his mother worked, Jamie became very independent. By the time he was eleven he was taking the bus home and letting himself into his house on his own. Eventually his mother started picking up other odd jobs to work after her shift at the hotel had ended so Jamie was alone most of the time. He wasn’t really raised with a ton of discipline and so long as he wasn’t getting arrested or getting into fights on the street his mother thought that he was doing alright.
Jamie grew up not really having a lot. His mother tried her hardest to give him everything that he needed, but often struggled to make ends meet, especially after her father died and wasn’t able to help out anymore. He had all the basics; clothes, food, a place to live. However, he didn’t have the toys or technology that a lot of the other kids had at school though. It bothered him a little bit, but he knew that his mom was trying the best she could, so he never said anything to her about it.
Because of his lack of discipline and structure at home, he never did well at school, often receiving poor marks, or barely scraping by. There was nothing wrong with him, he was just unmotivated and would rather have been doing something else besides sit in school and solve math problems. His grades were so bad in fourth grade that they made him repeat it the following year. Eventually, his mother became fed up with his poor marks, because she always had to take time off from work to attend Parent-Teacher meetings. So Jamie started working a little bit harder in school, but only enough to keep his GPA at just about a C-.
When he got to middle school he sort of fell in with the wrong crowd, dragging his best friend, Finn, along with him. Around sixth grade was when he started swearing and mouthing off to adults, and basically doing everything he could to get out of doing work, while still maintaining his C average. His friends would go to the mall on the weekends and try to steal small items, anything they could get away with. Most of the kids did it because they thought it was cool, but Jamie liked the adrenaline rush it gave him. He liked taking risks.
He started smoking cigarettes in eighth grade, after a few of the older kids thought that he was cool enough to hang out with them. His witty attitude and somewhat aloof personality, paired with his not-so-spotless reputation gave him a sort of bad-boy/cool-kid persona.
At the end of his eighth grade year, right before school got out, he’d been fooling around at the mall with his friends, going in and out of stores and daring each other to take small items. Over time the security guards had taken notice of them, since store managers and customers were constantly complaining that the group were causing trouble and making noise. In one store, Jamie had been pocketing one of those buttons you can pin onto your backpack or your clothes. One of the employees caught him putting it in his pocket and immediately stopped him, and called for security. All of his friends scattered, leaving him alone to deal with it.
Both the manager and the security guard came over, making a scene and demanding that Jamie hand over the merchandise and that the police were going to get involved. Everyone was staring at this point, and most had stopped their shopping to watch the scene unfold. Anger and frustration bubbled up; he was embarrassed for getting caught and frustrated with his friends for just leaving him out to dry. He could feel the pin, still clutched in his fist, starting to get hot. So hot, that Jamie threw it on the ground in fear that it was going to burn him.
The small pin exploded when it hit the tiles, a loud bang causing just about everyone around them to jump. It left a small black spot on the linoleum, the area smoking just slightly. Everyone was wide-eyed and shocked, and Jamie took this as his opportunity to book it out of the store and all the way home. Of course, as soon as he made it back to his house he began freaking out. His mother wasn’t home, so he was alone and his heightened emotional state sent his powers into a frenzy.
He accidentally charged up everything he touched; the TV remote, the telephone, the table lamp. After first few explosions he wisened up enough not to touch anything else, lest he start a fire and burn the whole house down. His mother came home and found a section in the living room carpet scorched from where he threw down the TV remote and the end table in pieces from the desk lamp’s combustion. Jamie was sitting on the ground in the kitchen and screamed at her to stay away from him when she came close.
His mother called 911 and after two hours they were finally able to calm Jamie down enough to get to the hospital. Since his first incident at the mall was very public, they were met by a recruiter from Hammel at the hospital who explained the cause behind the explosions. Jamie’s mother had always been uneasy about meta-humans. It wasn’t so much that she disliked or hated them, but she was afraid of the abilities that they possessed. Once the recruiter explained the nature of Jamie’s powers and the potential danger he posed, unfortunately she started to fear her own son in that same way.
Jamie left for Hammel within the next few days, only having enough time to pack up his things and say goodbye to Finn before he got on the plane. The next three years at Hammel were a hard adjustment. He wasn’t used to having so much supervision and spent the first few months in and out of the office for poor behavior. Eventually, he learned to be less obvious when he’s breaking rules, after getting tired of constantly getting caught and lectured day after day. However, he still spends more time in the office than the average Hammel student.
His control over his abilities have grown throughout his time here. He rarely charges up objects accidentally and if he does manage to he has learned how to “discharge” it before he releases it. His relationship with his mother is more strained than it was before, with phone calls and visits far and few in between. At this point he only goes home for Christmas, since he just can’t stand the tension in his house.
