Thread Roulette: Ginny and Germaine

Snowfall.

Even bundled up in scarf and coat and gloves the cold seeped through, biting at the few bits of skin that were still exposed to the chilly autumn air. The knit hat she had attempted to cram down over her ears wouldn't quite fit over the scrunchy she'd used to pull back her hair, and the bottoms of her ears were red within seconds.

"Brrrr!!" She shivered happily, grabbing the edges of her hat and yanking it down tighter. It refused to stay where she wanted, but that didn't matter; within a few seconds she would be off, running laps around Hammel's training field, and then the cold would barely be noticeable.

The grass was frosted with white where the morning dew had frozen and the sky was a pleasant winter gray already, despite the fact that it was still technically only autumn. She exhaled slowly, delighting in the visible puff of steam that appeared before her. Ginny loved cold weather and Vermont had cold in abundance, particularly at this time of year.

A few warm up stretches later and she took off across the field, pony tail bouncing behind her and hat threatening to fall off. She kept a regular pace going until she noticed white drifting lazily in front of her and landing on her coat. She stopped and turned her face to glance up at the sky, hitherto free from falling anything.

"Snow!!" She chirped, squeezing her eyes shut and doing a twirl, then opening them slowly once more. Yes, it was still snowing. She laughed and stuck out her tongue, feeling it necessary to perpetuate the age old tradition of trying to eat snowflakes. Snow! How exciting! She hoped it would cover the entire grounds so that she could build snowmen and make snow angels and throw snowballs at hapless students.

Gerri pouted when she heard the mention of snow. It was only autumn, and the robotic man on the weather channel was already threatening her with the chance of snow. Darn him. The blinds in her dorm crinkled loudly as she peaked through them to look at the overcast skies. It definitely seemed like a possibility.

She sighed and put her hair up into two crooked pigtails. There were more important things to do than lounge around and listen to the weather report. She retreated to her sneakers that lay waiting by her dorm room door and slipped them on. The girl wandered into the common room and flicked off the t.v. before taking the time to lace them up. It was time to play soccer, by her calculations. The teen wasn't about to let the threat of snow stop her from practicing, and the under armour she sported beneath her jersey and gym shorts would keep her warm enough.

As she jogged out onto the field with a soccer ball tucked beneath her arm, it became apparent that she wasn't the only one defying the chilly weather in order to get some exercise. There was plenty of other people out here. Good. The snow wouldn't dare disrupt this many people, would it? Gerri glared up at the grey clouds, challenging them to do just that, before she dropped her ball on the ground and started to stretch.

Not seconds later, a snow flake perched on the girl's nose. She gasped and stared cross-eyed at it until it melted. Gerri looked around frantically as the snow flakes quickly multiplied in number, drifting down from the sky. She hadn't even gotten to kick her ball yet.

She looked over to a nearby runner who had paused to...lick it? Ew. Strangely enough, the woman almost seemed happy about the incoming snow. "What are you doing?" Gerri asked with concern in her eyes. This snow was evil--she could feel it--and it was only going to get worse.
