Interrogations (Cobalt vs. Renee)

There was one thing that Renee was sure of, and that was that you couldn’t fire an entire police department without some kind of legal proceeding happening at some point.
She didn’t have any contacts in this town. She didn’t know who to ask about what went on in the shady part of town, and if she weren’t a dyed-in-the-wool cop and thus suspicious of everyone, she’d doubt Pilot Ridge even had a shady side. (As it was, she was figuring that Pilot Ridge’s underbelly consisted of bored teens smoking pot, shoplifting, and fighting.)
So it was back to the one thing she did know: someone had to have been tried. She’d looked up lawyers in the phone book and come up with Blue and Gold Law Firm, which was proudly emblazoned on the sign currently outside her car window.
Renee turned off the car and stepped out. Blue and Gold Law Firm was located in an unassuming building downtown—easy to find, even for a newcomer.
It was an odd name for a law firm, she thought as she headed toward the door, reminiscent of school or team colors. She pictured peppy, athletic lawyers with moisturized handshakes who would talk fondly about their “glory days” in high school football. The office she could see through the large front window didn’t really look like the domain of ex-jocks, but you never could tell.
She opened the door and stepped inside.
