All Dogs Go to Heaven (Matt)

Rhett was in the mood to buy something new. He wasn't set on what exactly yet, maybe a new watch, maybe some new clothes for his, rather small, clothes, or heck, maybe a new laptop, he even had enough money to buy all of the above now, He had gone out in a pickpocketing spree out of anger after three not-so-good events happened too close to each other for him to handle right: First the whole Talen deal, followed closely by the Rumor blogs telling everyone about it and then, finally, Mia Keystone showing it, graphically, to everyone. Not good times at all, and pickpocketing was the only thing Rhett had to help things cool down a bit, and fortunately, it helped.

Even though the Talen thing was not completely behind him yet, at least he had decided to start working on the Rumor while at the same time thinking how to enact revenge on Mia afterwards. Finally, if things worked as he was starting to plan, Talen would fall into his malevolent hands. But for now, it was about thinking things through. Or actually, about going to the mall and buy things.

In his way there, he was walking, a subtle sound called his attention. He looked towards his right. Nothing there, but he heard it again. It was like a shallow breathing with a little whistle intertwined. He looked down. Oh. It was a white puppy. Rhett looked at it carefully. He looked alone, and scared. The puppy was staring right back at Rhett too, this time silently. For a moment, they seemed to be talking to each other mentally.

They both blinked at the same time.

A small knot formed in Rhett's throat as he walked towards the dog and knelt to look at him better.

"So they abandoned you here for you to fend for yourself, huh?" They were still staring at each other strongly. "Guess we have something in common."

Matt was being sent out for chores. Unfortunately that meant he was without a car. His mother had the truck his father had the car. He was being expected to carry all of the groceries home from the store without any way for transporting them other then his own strength. Matt had grumbled and mumbled about it but ultimately he gave in and made his way to the grocery store. Celery? Check. Peanut butter? Check. Steak? Check. Soda? Check. Bread? Check. Juice? Check. Cereal? Check. Gummy bears? Check. Monster? Check. Well maybe that one was not on the list but Matt felt he deserved it. After all he was expected to carry all of this and it wasn't as if her was going to get any help. He exited the store with everything on the list and started to make his way back home before he saw a semi odd sight in from of him.

Matt just stood there for a minute taking in the scene. There was a kid standing above a dog, both of them just staring at each other. Mat didn't really know what was going on but he knew there was something going on. He watched as the blond boy and the white ball of fur almost connected in a way. Smiling he wondered what it would be like to own a dog. Oh that is right. His mother was allergic. He was ever allowed to have a pet. Though if Matt thought about it hard enough he supposed Dani was hard enough to handle. A pet would have just added to the stress of keeping his sister out of trouble. No a pet was a bad idea. Especially for his family.

He did happen to have though a few dog treats since his neighbors had a dog. Smiling he realized he had one in his pocket and set his bags down as he approached the boy and the dog. He silently stood over the boy with a smile and offered the dog treat to him. “ For your dog.” Matt was in a semi-good mood. He didn't mind talking if it was only a few words. He had no qualms about it. Especially if he was going to get by the boy. It was only polite to do so after all.

Matt did not hear the boys words. He was too full of intent to get the groceries home then anything. There was meat there. That is something he couldn't keep out. Not in a slight heat that it was. So piking up his bags Matt proceeded to slowly walk in the direction of his house literally thinking that it was nice the boy and the dog were getting along and they should be fine now that the dog had a treat.

"It's not my..." Rhett muttered, almost silently as the boy handed him a dog treat.

Rhett's concentration had been so deep into the dog, that it was almost like the other boy had appeared out of nowhere. He wondered how was it possible for him to be so concentrated in a pet. He considered it pretty stupid, and he didn't considered himself stupid, of course, but still, there was something he couldn't grasp...

"Hey! Wait." He yelled at the boy.

Almost as if by reflex, Rhett took the puppy and held it strongly in his hands. The dog only looked at Rhett while softly panting, looking completely comfortable, and happy, in Rhett's hands. For what seemed an eternity, the blonde looked at the small thing in his hands. It was so soft, so weak. He felt afraid, he didn't want to hurt the dog and instead loosened his grip a bit, handling it in a much more delicate way. I will not hurt you. The puppy did nothing but stare at Rhett's gray eyes and pant.

"You have a dog, right?" Either the other boy had one, or hanged around them often, otherwise Rhett couldn't think a reason why he would have a dog treat with him. "I... He was here when I arrived. I believe he was..." He didn't feel comfortable saying the dog was abandoned to someone else, the same way he never liked saying that he was abandoned when young too. "He, surely, needs a family." Rhett stretched his arms to offer the dog to the boy. "Adopt him."

Matt had handed the treat to the boy and had smiled as he took it anyway. He might have misunderstood, but hey now the dog had a treat and he had done a good deed for he day.

Matt was almost amused at how absorbed the shorter boy was in his dog that he didn't even notice he had showed up. It was sort of sweet. The bond between the dog and his master growing stronger by the second. He smiled as he tried to move past him. It really was a sort of sweet gesture.

Matt was already a little ways away from the boy an his dog when he heard the other boy call out to him. More like yell at him. Matt had not a clue what the teen wanted but he stopped and waited or him to catch up.

Matt watched as the boy took the puppy and held him firmly. He felt sort of awkward just standing there. The boy was obviously absorbed in the puppy and it was apparent Matt was being forgotten. What did he want him for? He only had that one treat. It was not as if he had more. He himself did not own a dog. He didn't plan on owning one either.

Matt watched as the other boy came out of his trance and started talking. He listened silently as the boy just assumed he has a dog. Shaking his head at the words Matt looked at the boy. “No” He hoped that simple word would clear everything up. He listened as the boy tried to speak. He realized the dog was abandoned with the younger, shorter boys words. Matt watched the boy as he pressed that the puppy needed a family. Matt felt that there was something sad along those lines. From the looks of it the boy needed a family too. Then came the fatal words. He wanted Matt to take the dog home.

Matt slowly put the groceries own. Damn why did this stranger look at him like that? Matt sighed and slowly smiled a soft smile. “ I can't. My mom is allergic. I...” Matt hesitantly bit his lip as he contemplated telling him. He realized he had to.

“ I am sorry.” Matt hung his head. Since when had puppy eyes affected him this much? Dani's didn't work. Andi's didn't work. So why in the hell was this stranger pleading with him making him want to take the dog home? Sighing at the shorter boy Matt slowly picked up the bags, “ He seems attached to you.”

"He is not." Rhett looked at the puppy, who hadn't stopped staring at him. He turned him around so he would, instead, look at the other boy. "Come'on." There was a little tone of frustration in Rhett's, usually calmed, voice. "Who walks around with dog treats? You have to know someone close who owns a dog, don't you?"

Rhett waved the puppy in front of the boy a bit, like attempting to make the boy concentrate on the little thing. Maybe if the dog stared at the dark-haired boy the same way it stared at Rhett, it would make him want him the same way... No. He stopped his train of thought. I don't want a dog. Rhett could feel a void in his chest not far from the knot in his throat. He was clearly lying to himself and he knew it. A year ago Rhett wouldn't have noticed it. A year ago Rhett didn't know how a knot in his throat felt. He regretted having experienced all that. The small thought passed his brain quickly, maybe he should have stayed back in Kocher. He would have never met Talen, his name wouldn't be in the internet now, photos of him kissing another boy wouldn't be in people's memories and he wouldn't be contemplating the thought of having a dog, or even worse, of feeling emotionally attached to a puppy he just met and that reciprocates the feeling, just as the other boy said. I hate babies. I hate dogs. He kept repeating in his mind.

"I can't take it. I live at Hammel dorms, dogs are not allowed." It was a good excuse. It had to work. "I haven't lived here much, I don't know people. I know for a fact you do." Rhett looked directly at the boy's eyes. He was asking for a favor now, even if he didn't say 'please' out loud. "You can find a home for him, I know you can."

Matt watched slightly amused as the other boy said that the puppy, who obviously was attached to him, was not attached to him, and promptly turned the ball of fur around to face him. Matt shook his head when the smaller boy as he attempted to and tried to rationalize that he should take the dog. After all he had dog treats with him. Matt realized normal people would not have done this. Normal people didn't have a neighbors dog that Matt was sure was out to eat him whenever he walked past. He could have sworn the dog hated him. The two had an agreement, Matt gave it treats, the dog didn't eat him. For Matt this was working out quite well.

Matt normally liked dogs, aw shoot, the other boy was holding the puppy in front of him. Expecting it to suddenly change his mind. No Matt you cannot take the small puppy. No Matt you may not pet it. In some ways Matt was already losing a battle of wits with the small do. He would prevail more often then naught though, so he solemnly averted his eyes to looking at the other boy. What he did notice however was that the dog, instead of looking at Matt had craned his heading the opposite direction to look at the other boy instead. Matt chuckled. It was obvious that the dog was infatuated with the other boy. In hindsight Matt should have known that the puppy would be going home with the other boy. From the looks of it the other boy liked the dog just was much as the dog liked him back. Matt had smiled as the boy got lost in the eyes of the puppy again. That was it the puppy was going home with the other boy. Matt knew in his mind that was the truth.

Matt looked at the other boy sadly as the boy tried to reason with him. Oh he went to Hammel? Dan went to Hammel. Matt wondered what the other boy's power was. He knew that Dani's was a it different then most peoples and that each power was different to each person. It amazed him how some people just had a power. Then of course Rhett said he hadn't lived here much. Well neither had Matt. It had only been a few weeks since he had been here, almost a month so he laughed as the other boys thought that he lived here more then he had. In some way's Matt did not really know people. He mostly stayed to himself unless he was at Kali's or doing chores or with his sister. Yea, Matt didn't get out much. Matt knew he had to speak to the boy again, let him know he couldn't. “My mom would kill me.” Matt bit his lip and looked down. “Sorry."

"Really?" Rhett continued waving the puppy in front of the boy, trying to make him look up. He felt this was a battle he was already winning. "So you prefer to leave a dog to fend for himself in the streets, and die of hunger or be put off by animal control, than getting yelled at by your mother?"

Just accept the damn dog. He was about to growl. Rhett really couldn't believe the other boy wouldn't take the dog. What's so bad about it? Hide it from your mom. He doesn't need to stay with you forever, just while you look for a better place for him. Get your siblings to help you hide him and it'd be just fine. By the time someone realizes you have a dog, you'll most likely either found him a better home, or attached enough to it to fight for him to stay with you, like most people do when they have puppies. It will do you better, you clearly seem like the kind of person that needs a dog, Mr. Silent Sally, you can't be that cold to not like dogs, can you? Rhett sighed. He clearly had no idea he was simply trying to convince himself.

"Leaving a puppy behind is just as evil as abandoning an eleven year old kid." He swallowed saliva. "Are you really that kind of person?"

Matt tried not to look at the puppy that was being dangled in front of him. He sighed at the words coming out of the boys mouth. "You don't know my mother. And of course I don't want to. I have to." He eyed the other boy with hard eyes. He was not budging on this. He couldn't afford to.

The boy should just accept the fact that he wanted the dog already. He knew that the boy wanted him. he could see it in his eyes. Nothing was going to stop Matt from making the other boy see that. He knew the other boy was attached. Already the puppy was attached. Whenever it was dangled under Matt it just moved its head so it could stare at the other boy. To Matt it was was done deal who this puppy was going home with. there was no questions about it. He sighed and looked at his watch, he did have to get home soon but he knew that this boy wouldn't let him pass if he was refusing him even more.

Matt stared at the other boy almost hoping his resolution to give Matt the puppy would fade. Did he just call him cruel. Matt sighed. "I CAN'T take the puppy. I would be happy to help you search but it will not be coming home with me.Can't you keep it int he dorm? I'm sure your roommates would be up for some adventure. Besides, more people at Hammel know more people. They would be able to find a home faster then the new kid." Matt turned the other way and started to walk. If the boy followed Matt was not sure what he would do.

Rhett felt like yelling at the kid. Heck, Rhett felt. And he felt bad. He was cursing the gods for not having a physical power and attacking the boy with it. Someone like him didn't deserve to be let to just walk away, but he had a small fragile puppy in his hands. There was nothing he could do at the time, so Rhett only concentrated on remembering his face for the next time they would meet. Matthew Waylan... The name had slipped into his consciousness. It had actually been the first time that he, by concentrating on someone, gained extrasensory information, the first time his powers didn't act involuntarily, but he didn't notice this. There was a strange sense of rage, disappointment and sadness clouding everything else going on inside of him.

Breathing in and out slowly, he turned around. He was stuck with the puppy now, even if a part of him felt glad about it. He sighed. Hiding in Hammel seemed like a rather difficult idea, but there was no other choice at the moment. Thinking every possibility, it was the best chance the dog had while he looked for a suitable family for him, which seemed like a rather hard process. First things first. He reminded himself. The dog would need some food and perhaps some toys. He would also need something big to smuggle him to Hammel. At least now he knew what was he going to buy with today's shopping mood.
