Thread Roulette: Two Line Accident

Mason McQueen and Reece Turner get into a small car accident near the mall. No one's hurt, but they're understandably a little upset about it. Luckily Gerard Mayburry saw the whole thing, and comes over to help them settle it.

Rules: Mason and Reese each have two lines of dialogue they can say. That's it. They can change their inflection, but not what words they say. Gerard can say whatever he needs to settle this.

Mason can only say "Well look at that." and "How much is this going to cost?"

Reese can only say "I'm late." and "What's the matter with you?"

Reece's day could not get much worse. He'd taking the car and dropped the girls off at school before he'd headed toward the mall to get some shopping because the house was working on bare minimums right now. While turning a corner, he never noticed the other car behind him and the engine kinda stalled just as he was about to turn making the other person ram right into him. Reece jerked forward and back in his seat just a bit before he shot a glare in the rear view. His hand practically flew up to the safety belt and released it.

He was already late for his meeting with the bank and now this? And he hadn't even gone to the mall yet. Reece scrambled out of the car and moved toward the owner of the other car.
"What's the matter with you?"
Reece kept his tone from screaming but it was harder then it looked. This was a family car. It was needed every day. The reason why he used his motor cycle instead was that things like this just didn't happen! He was safe on his motor bike.

Safe from bumps that would cost a fortune to repair. Reece slammed a hand against his own car and shook his head.

Mason isn’t really one to get into fender benders often; his brother Tim maybe (the boy’s foot seems to be glued to the accelerator almost all the time) or his older sister Lois (she’s a little too nervous), but not him. Klutzy as he may be at times (during his yoga classes, for example), but when it comes to the road, he’s pretty much ‘all eyes and ears on the wheel’. Which is why him being involved in one is making him extremely embarrassed.

Despite winning their little bet about his brother doing every chore in the house for a month, Andrei didn’t have enough time to go buy their weekly groceries. Everything would’ve been good had his phone not rang while he was driving, making him realize that he didn’t turn the Bluetooth connectivity on (so he can go handless and stuff). His phone acted up in the middle of the whole setup thing, even falling off his hand. So for a split-second he took his eyes off the road and bent over, right in time when Reece’s car stalled and the whole thing happened. Amazing isn’t it?

He reluctantly walked out of his car, rubbing the back of his head as he looked at Reese, embarrassment written all over his face. “How much is this going to cost?”

Gerard was a safe driver. At least he liked to think so. He was that guy who would re-read the driver’s hand book now and again just to make sure his memory didn’t deceive him. Granted, Pilot Ridge wasn’t know for it’s traffic, but it was good to keep up. That was why he felt obligated, as a citizen of the town, to act as a mediator to the accident he’d just witnessed.

He pulled his car to the side of the road and turned on his flashers, moving out of the car just as Reece was advancing on Mason. The silver-haired man’s brown creased low over his eyes, but there was no altercation. Good. He stood between the two bumped up cars and looked over the two men quickly.

“Is everyone alright? Should I call the police?”

Reece groaned when he caught the look on Mason’s face. It was pure embarrassment and he knew how that felt most of the time. Accusing this guy of anything would be extra hard and he found himself not really desiring to do that in the over all scheme of things. So it was a little bump. God knew that he’d been at fault too.

If he had driven more he’d have known how to avoid this but it was hard to sit with your legs together on something where you believed whole heartedly would get you from A to B easier, if your legs were apart. That sounded so wrong in Reece’s head. Go figure, growing up on horse back. It just felt weird moving at a fast pace when he was sat down instead of clinging onto something that was between his legs.

Reece shook his head at Mason in disappointment.
”What’s the matter with you?”
Reece groaned and placed a hand over his eyes.
”I’m Late!”
He exclaimed in a slightly more agitated voice before he heard the deep voice of an elder man having found them.

He uncovered his eyes and looked over a guy that he was sure had just stepped off the battle fields of Iraq to come and help them sort this out.
”I’m late…”
Reece implored again at the elder gentleman hands held up in a manner that would suggest his own agitation.

“Well look at that,” said Mason as he walked around the two cars for a bit, trying to assess the damage. It wasn’t that much, but it’s still pretty noticeable. Would his insurance cover this again? Technically he’s at fault, but it was all an accident right? Right?

He could just imagine how much flak he’d get from his beloved circle of friends for this. Sam and Flo especially.

Guilt has never been good to the man, eating Mason almost completely whenever it surfaces from within. He’s not much of a worrywart, but when he’s done something wrong, it just suddenly spikes up so much. The smile on his face is barely hanging on, feeling cold sweat slowly drip from his forehead. And the crowd that gathered around them isn’t really helping either.

Mason was a little startled when Gerard spoke, and promptly shook his head at the question. It was the only good thing that came out of the collision, unless of course Reece decides to sue him for internal concussions or such. (Please no?) “How much is this going to cost?” he asked again, one hand on his chin. He has a few dollars to spare, but everyone knows being a teacher doesn’t really pay that much.

Gerard wrinkled his nose. “I understand that son, but there’s no reason to get worked up. We’ll take care of this a-sap and get ya’ll back on the road safely.” Gerard could certainly understand Reece’s disappointment. The older man also hated to be late, and especially hated if his employees were late. But there really was nothing that could be done, and car accident was as good an excuse as any to be late for something.

Life was a bitch that way.

He looked to Mason, who was also clearly flustered but for a much different reason, and peek at the two cars with a discerning eye. “Well…” Gerard murmured gruffly. “the cars don’t seem to be leaking any liquid or anything. Probably just some body damage.” The silver-haired soldier shrugged. “Might maybe cost you nothing. Depends how bad you want your car to look nice.”

Well look at that?! Had Mason just said that?! Yeah, he'd just said that.
"What's the matter with you?"
Reece asked Mason frowned at the bumper and his bumper before glancing to the elder gentleman who was supposed to be helping him soft this out. Hearing himself called 'son' he gave the elder man a quick look.
"What's the matter with YOU?"
Reece asked the elder gentleman before moving so he could lean his back against the side of the car.

Reece winced when he saw the look on Mason's face and offered a sorta smile toward Mason. Mason hadn't meant for this to happen. He could understand that but the fact of the matter remained. The silver haired guy didn't get it.
"I'm late..."
Reece slid down to the floor on the tarmac and burried his hands in his hair. This was such an important meeting to be late for... He was sooo busted.

Reece was obviously agitated, and the young man’s agitation only fueled Mason’s discomfort even more. Not that he feels any ill will towards the young man anyway; it was his fault after all and Mason’s guilt tells him that Reece is entitled to act up as much as he wants. Within reason anyway.

He was actually thankful that Gerard stepped up and mediated between them. He’s fairly sure between his current panic and Reece’s irritation, nothing would probably be solved. Or it’ll take a while at least. In any case, Gerard’s appearance, for some reason, reminded Mason that he should call the police already to have the thing sorted out.

After phoning the station and reporting what happened, he put his phone back into his pocket and turned to both men. His face brightened when Gerard assessed the damage, saying, “Well look at that!”

He walked over Reece and gave him a gentle pat on the shoulder. He need not get angry with Gerard, he’s just trying to help after all.

Gerard wrinkled his nose. He really didn’t appreciate Reece’s attitude, but he supposed that there was nothing left to do with him but let him run through his frustration. At least the other man was slightly more sane, if not simply more optimistic. That was a stress-buster in itself. He'd hate to see two type-As in a little fender bender like this.

“Well I’ll guess I’ll stay on until the cops get here. That way you gents have a third party.” Gerard scratched the back of his head. “Why don’t you two try to start your cars? I bet they’re working just fine.”

Reece watched Mason call the police and groaned softly. He would never make it now. Never in a million years and he badly needed to get done today what he needed to get done. He didn't blame either of them for this. Accidents did happen but apparently all he could think of to say at that point was 'what is wrong with you?' even though it did make the whole situation worse. Reece's eyes flicked up when he felt the pat on his shoulder and he half heartedly smiled from Mason to the ex army person.

"I'm late."
Reece nodded and lowered his head again shoulders slumped. Oh well. this was life and this was what happened some of the time. What a hell of a roller coaster ride life was. He was late... so he was late and? and he lost out on something important. Too bad. Such was life. Que Sera Sera. Whatever will be Will be. Maybe he needed to pay more attention to that and ease up on life a little but the desire to control a situation with him involved was a killer and he was sure he was slowly dying.

Mason gave Gerard a smile before running back to his car and trying to start his engine. True enough, it’s still working, which meant nothing bad really happened to his car. Hopefully it was just the same for Reece’s, which meant that it really wouldn’t make a huge hole in his pocket. With the holidays just around the corner, heaven knows his wallet would once again be stretched to the limit.

Turning his engine off as he rejoined the two men, he stood just beside Reece, leaning on his car and offering the boyman another apologetic grin. It was all he could do at the moment really. Reece constantly talking about how late he is is indeed getting into him, making him feel more guilty than he already was. Unfortunately he was no time manipulator.

It took a little longer, but after a while, the police finally came. “Well look at that!” beamed the man, giving Reece another gentle squeeze on the shoulder. This meant they’d be out in a few more minutes, right?

Would it be too much for us to wrap up or something? Idk. I think we've sort of reached some sort of conclusion/end or something. But that's just Jam. .

Gerard was glad to see Reece calm himself a little bit when Mason amicably closed the space between them. Satisfied that the two men weren’t going to jump down each other’s throats, Gerard crossed his arms over his chest and smiled slightly, waiting for the police to come alone.

“I’ll be on my way after the boys in blue get here.” Gerard explained to the two other men. “I’m glad no one got hurt.” Moments later, squealing sirens announced the arrival of the police. Gerard gave his witness’ statement, then left the drivers to it.

Before he got back in his car, he offered his hand to both Mason and Reece in turn for a friendly hand shake. “Try to have a nice day, fellas.” He said, smiling again before getting in his car to drive away.
