Same Mistakes Made Twice (Braxton)

Sitting down at the table she ordered a coffee. Her eye was black and hideous. Her father was angry with her about her wanting to leave home again. She was sick of taking care of her mother and she was sick of him all but force feeding her drugs. And he didn't like that she wanted to come back to her life here at Private Ridge. After the fight she'd left anyway and was home to make things right now. She'd texted Braxton asking him to meet her here for coffee to talk. Adult to adult.

Taking a deep breath, Sawyer sat there near the window looking out, waiting for her brother. She wanted things to go back to when she could hug him and cry on him when their parents where being ugly people. She hoped that he would see passed their childish disagreements and would listen to what she had to say.

Looking down at the swirls of her latte she sighed and closed her eyes. How had she let her life get so out of hand. Why couldn't she have just gone off to college like her brother. Then maybe they wouldn't have called her home. Then maybe she wouldn't have had to leave their drooling babbling mother alone with their idiot abusive father. She looked up as the door opened ad was looking at the back of her brother as she took in a deep breath prepared for the worst.

Braxton woke to "Mistletoe" ringing in his cellphone. Great, someone changed my ringtone. Again. It was probably Ethan, though Braxton was so careless with his thing that in pure honesty it could have been anyone in the house. He looked at his BB Torch. It was a text and it said "Sawyer". Great. Without opening the text, he threw his cellphone away and continued sleeping.

Hours later he finally woke up and read the message. What does she want? Fortunately for her, he didn't really have anything else to do that day, so he took a quick bath and left to downtown Pilot Ridge. He arrived at the meeting place about half an hour late, but he didn't care that much.

"Black coffee over to where that coated girl is." He said to the nearest waiter he ran into before heading towards Sawyer's table. "In case you wonder, yeah she's an escort, I can give you her number. She's expensive though, so save up a couple of months."

Braxton walked up to Sawyer and acknowledged her with a slight chins-up movement, taking a seat in front of her. Thankfully it was an outdoor place so he quickly pulled a cigarette from his pocket and a lighter from the other, lighting up in two quick successive movements before placing the lighter in the table. If he was going to endure whatever Sawyer wanted to talk about, he just -needed- a smoke.

"So?" He asked. She wouldn't have asked him to meet her if she didn't actually have something specific to say, would she? "Cute eye, by the way. Things getting rough in the drug dens again?"

Well he hadn't changed much. That was... well she wasn't sure what that was, but she was happy. Sort of. At least he'd come that meant he cared at all. Sipping her latte she smiled a little at his insult about the drug den. He was quick she had to give him that. Running a hand through her loose low pony tail she tried to find her words.

"It.... Was Dad...." Her green eyes caught his and she tried to put on a brave face but ended up looking down at her drink again and fiddling with the handle. Finally she took a cigarette out of her pocket and borrowed his lighter to light it. She was quiet for a long time and then sighed. "Don't um... Don't go home.... if they ask you to. I know it sounds weird... but just... Don't go okay? I.. I know you are tough and much much stronger than I am... But just don't go home. They will ask... but just ignore them?"

Her eyes looked pleading as she looked up at him. She didn't want him to get hurt and she didn't want them to drag him down. He was doing well, going to school and such. At least she thought he was. He was the only family she had left and she was not about to loose him to those maniacs they called parents.

To say that Braxton was surprised by Sawyer's admittance of being hit by their father was a big understatement. Thankfully his coffee arrived just at the same time and instead of reacting to it, Braxton just gracefully thanked the waiter and took his first sip, burning tongue a little but ignoring it.

"Well I didn't know things were so bad down there." He said as he continued his smoke.

Guess after all we do take after them. A thought that made Braxton cringe a little. He didn't want to think he was like his father, but he had gotten physical with Sawyer as well. But they had a phase in which it was actually common and the distribution of how many of the fights were started by Braxton and how many by Sawyer was rather equal. Being hit by him just seemed wrong, even if it had been his twin's fault, which even though possible, he somehow thought was not the case this time.

"Oh they already did. Probably before you, I just wasn't dumb enough to agree." He skipped talking too much about her being hit. It seemed weird for him to talk about that. "They didn't came when they removed my appendix nor when the wound got infected afterwards. Why would I go for some something-something going on over there?" He drank again his black coffee. He burned his tongue again, this time making a small pained face. "Yeah, no, no way."

He was taking this rather well. She expected him to make a lot of further comments on her trip home. And about her eye which stung like he'll everytime she inhaled too deeply or tried to smile. It was a good thing there wasn't much to smile about. Taking a big breath she looked at him. She knew he hated them for not coming to have his appendix out. She was mad at them for not showing up. He may not have known but she'd been by his side the entire time. He was right she was stupid to have answered them. "I wasn't up to anything bad you know. When I got into he fight with him. I was trying to leave. I was tired of dealing with them. I wasn't actually doing something wrong."

Sawyer was swallowing quickly to keep from crying. Why them? Weren't adoption people supposed to make sure the parents were going to be good parents not selfish psychotic abusive parents before just handing over two perfect beautiful children? Who said it was okay for them to live this life? How do they sleep at night? Closing her eyes she ran her tongue over her teeth for a while and tried to figure out how to put their situation lightly. "Mom had a nervous breakdown and instead of shop thearapy with dad's credit card and a few martinis she indulged in Botox therapy. But she was stupid and saw a different doctor than the one that did her boobs and her cheekbones. So her face is permanently like this..." she took out her phone and showed him the picture she'd snapped while she was sleeping.

"So dad asked for someone to come sit with her and keep her in good spirits. But he wasn't so nice about me wanting to keep out of the drug scene. He wanted my help getting it into clubs and when I refused he threatened me. Look I had my cereal laced with like dozens of things lately. With out any of my knowledge. My body is a freaky messed up compilation of withdrawals from god knows what. So I left and he didn't like that so he hit me then left me in the car with his assistant and told him to do what he wanted with me. I know you were thinking I must have done something or said something but...."

Tears ran down her face now. They stung like hell but she couldn't help it any more. "I didn't do anything. I just wanted to leave. I just thought you should know that before assuming I was at fault for this. I wanted to tell you before he did or before he could come infect you too." she looked up at her brother and searched his face for any last traces of kindness.
