AU: Enchantments (Open!)

The prince perched atop a dandelion, watching the fireflies glimmer in the night. He sighed wistfully, fully aware that he was envious of insects. Their nightly ritual was one of romantic courtship, but the princess he had loved had accepted the hand of another prince in a faraway kingdom.

Black and orange wings fluttered slightly as the memory brought back the sting of rejection. She had sworn her eternal love to him! That was supposed to end in a royal marriage, not in jealousy over glittering fireflies.

The sound of ribbiting interrupted his morose naval gazing, and he glanced down to see his royal guards astride their grand toad mounts.

The prince crossed his ankles and leaned down to call out to them.

"Oh, what do you want now? It isn't curfew yet. I do know how to tell time, you know."

The guards nodded at the prince showing the proper respect to him before one clearled there throat slipping off of there toady steed '' Sorry to disturb you my lord but we found something that you might be intrested in..'' he said glancing up to his toad and on the back of it was a girl.

She wore simple clothing that belonged more to a maid of the castle than the noble that she truely was '' Will you let go of me this is crazy .. and get me off this toad '' she growled her hair covering her face as she wriggled around her hands had been bound '' We assumed that she was going to break into the palace and steal so we thought it was better to bring her to you Sire to see if you had any ideas what to do with her '' the guard said rather happy with himself.

'' How many times do l have to tell you that lm a maid of the castle l was outside getting some fresh air or is that a crime now '' she uttered letting out a yelp when the other guard shoved her off the toad and she fell to the ground '' There you are off the toad now '' he chuckled
She sat up moving the hair from her face and some dirt from the corners of her mouth she wasnt sure why she had lied about being a maid after all she was a vistor to the kingdom to try and bring the Prince out of his slum but she just needed to get out of that room and see the stars so she asked to borrow the maids clothes so she could climb out with out getting into too much trouble guess that idea went pear shaped.

Prince Chuck slipped off the dandelion, fluttering to the ground beside the young girl. He didn't recognize her, though truthfully maids tended to blend in with the furniture, and she very well could have been exactly what she claimed. His parents were both politically minded, but he wasn't quite as cynical or suspicious, and so he waved at the guards dismissively.

"I'm sure I recognize her." He lied, deciding that it was better to trust her than to trust his guards. Honestly, who would try to break into the palace dressed as a maid? He was sure that they meant well, but his guards were definitely being silly about this.

She was probably exactly what she claimed.

The guards retreated, far enough away that they couldn't overhear any conversation between the fairy prince and the supposed maid, but not so far that they couldn't witness anything that happened.

Chuck decided that was good enough. They were being paid to protect him, after all, and if they didn't trust someone they couldn't very well be expected to shirk their responsibilities.

He offered the girl a hand to help her off the ground. "I hope you aren't really a thief," He told her, expression serious. "Or you'll have to be thrown into prison, and that wouldn't be fun."

The kingdom prison was dank and served moldy bread. It was also quite a bit better than the palace dungeon, which tended to be reserved for political prisoners rather than the more mundane criminals.

Chuck tried to ignore the fact that his parents had any political prisoners.
